TOYOTA YARIS CROSS ESTATE 1.5 Hybrid Icon 5dr CVT

The Yaris Cross isn’t the fastest small SUV out there, but its hybrid technology makes it one of the most efficient. Besides, the electric motor does make the Yaris Cross quick off the line and the engine has enough grunt to accelerate you up to motorway speeds, albeit with plenty of accompanying noise. Unlike many rivals, Toyota offers the option of four-wheel drive on the top trims

A good motor but you get more bang for your buck with a Kia.

Don't you have to get it serviced at the main dealer to get this..?

Guess that's why more than one car exists; not everyone wants the same! (edited)

How long do these kind of deals last?
I’m quite interested in this on the basis of people’s comments on here about value for money, but I really need to test drive one from a local dealer as I’m 6’ 5” so need to see how roomy it is.

My father is 6’3” and he drives this Cross Yaris for a year now, no complaints so far.

I test drove one and it was very nippy, and very fast. It was a nice car to drive, although basically an automatic, if thats what you want. I was offered it at just over £20,000 if I bought it on HP, and then paid the HP back that same week??? Without that it was offered to me at around £22,000 after haggling. It has a massive boot. But, I still think it is over priced, sorry.

Its the same price as a manual Ford Puma, which has a drivetrain from a generation ago and the stingiest warranty out there (tied with VW). The Puma is overpriced - this isn't. (edited)

One thing probably missing... A spare wheel

Why on Earth did they stilop providing the most necessary bit of a kit? I know loads of peopke caught out by this

Why does it catch them out? They give you a can of repair/inflate spray instead which work well enough to get you to a tyre place.

Car looks nasty - why not just buy a Mercedes G Wagon?👀

in all seriousness I’ve had the Yaris Cross for over a year (having downgraded from a Q3) and must say the one thing that hasn’t disappointed is fuel economy.
space-wise, with a baby and so a pram in the boot, I do struggle with shopping.
driving the Car at speeds of anything above 70mph and the wind noise as well as car stability decreases. That said, happy with the car overall for the money that it is

Changing to slightly wider tyres - 10mm more would help. I had to do that with my MK3 Yaris.

I was thinking of paying outright for this, but would I be better paying PCP, not sure how PCP works. Do I just pay monthly for x amount of years, then pay off a final balance? Would I end up paying more in interest?
    Thanks
    MOJOoo7's avatar
    MOJOoo7
If you have the full money then take out the PCP and settle fully day after collection of car, one day of interest to pay. You can settle fully at anytime, but pay interest with each passing day.

There are cheaper deal going through brokers like drivethedeal and carwow.

Its not reliable. There are issues with 12v battery not being charged by the EV battery. I plug a solar battery charger into the OBD and have a jump start pack to ensure I don’t need to call the AA out anymore.
    MOJOoo7's avatar
    MOJOoo7
Only if your usage is very low and infrequent, or you may have inherited a poor state battery from the previous owner. I have the MK3 Yaris hybrid for 5 years, no issue with the 12v battery. Were away for 9 days last autumn, no problem on return.

Work out your cost per mile of running g your car - very easy to do. I have a bmw i3 Rex which is 1.5p per mile - nothing beats that imo - but I hate the car
This Yaris cross is a lovely car if you could pick one up for decent £ on a personal lease it’s a winner I’d say

    A couple of reviews:

Summary: Definitely shortlist. Excellent fuel economy, quick around town (slower speeds), not as much room in back as some others, CVT gearbox is noisy in switchover from electric to petrol, boot and ride are solid. Don't forget that 10 Yr/100k warranty (if you keep to service schedule). (edited)

Is it worth leasing or purchasing currently? I am going to test drive this and chr today but not sure what to do.

I have a 2013 auris with 120k on clock and just feel anxious high mileage but never had any issues.

Buying second hand I would want something 3 years old but bottle neck keeping prices inflated from 2020.

I pulled the trigger on one of these through car wow. Dealer came back to me and ordered a design model for under £21k. 2-3months wait made new in the factory. Has fantastic reviews, and a good choice while we are waiting for the EV market to settle down.

I think it's about time that car boots were given real world dimensions.
For example, my Zoe takes 3 Cocker Spaniels, while other similar size/price cars of 3 years ago, sacrificed boot space for under floor batteries and passengers (ridiculous trade off!) I mean where do the dogs go?
To be fair, a bit more room for a third grandchild would have been very useful and I wouldn't have to consider getting a bigger car, but hay - ho, three years ago, I only had two grandkids.
The baby would fit in the boot with the dogs, but my daughter is resisting the idea.
So, can someone who is good at this sort of thing work out what my next car is please, I was thinking MG Estate, but I'm open to suggestions (BEV preferred)
    Thanks

What's the mpg like on one of these?
    Manbatius's avatar
    Manbatius
It's a bit dependant on type of roads driven. What car did a good test drive mpg score. It's better in city driving. Lowest we have had was in winter 58mpg. Warmer months it's higher, normally hovers around 68. This is mixed driving. Occasionally over 70 if doing more city driving.

Be careful with new car discount. I ordered from them recently for a car they said would be delivered in 2-3 weeks. The car they sold me didn’t actually exist and 3 weeks later they still had no idea when I could possibly get the car. The staff’s attitudes was very odd about their mistake but they did agree to refund my £500 deposit.

I've had cheaper offers via carwow from an official toyota dealer. I don't know if the 10-year extended warranty scheme applies when buying it through a third party seller?
    sipart's avatar

As long as service is done at Toyota then 10 warranty applies (T&C apply)

Up to 10 years / 100,000 mile Toyota warranty*
Every new Toyota comes with a 3 year manufacturer warranty followed by a 12 months / 10,000 miles additional warranty, with every qualifying service*. Up to 10 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, letting you relax in the knowledge that you and your vehicle are in safe hands.

Nearly £840 cheaper here if you're a serving or ex-serving member of the Armed Forces - their price is £22,167.15 + £195 Service Fee = £839.39 cheaper for the same vehicle spec/colour.

Shows you how much New Car Discount are making on each deal........

But you said that above price is for members of Armed forces only.

Got mine and the efficency so far has been brilliant far ahead of my 2 Year old T Roc

    The longest trip was
    31.8 miles
41% of that distance was electricity
    Consumption was 80.0mpg
By comparison the same trip in a T Roc would be ~55mpg

Paying off the finance early was super easy you can do it on the app very straight forward very easy

Overall imo the internal quality is less than a T Roc but I guess that is expected as a T Roc is 2-3k more expensive

The new Toyota Prius prime has an in-built solar panel. I can see Toyota adding solar panels to all their hybrid cars in the future as solar panels are really cheap and there are very light weight versions. You'd get about 750 miles per year totally free from a solar panel on these things in the UK or closer to 1,500 miles a year in a sunny location like Spain or Australia

Hybrids (esp with solar) definitely shouldn't be banned anytime soon
