I'm sure this needs a hub
    whizkid's avatar
The hub gives you the ability to use Hive via the app. This is just a wireless version of a thermostat control , so you can alter the temp and control hot water via the control panel

I already have the hub and V1 thermostat. Can I use this with my hub to replace the old thermostat?
    Rickardo's avatar
I think you can as I'm interested in that. You would add it through the app like another device (e.g. light bulb), although I'm guessing you would need to swap over the receiver that comes with this, for the one wired to your boiler (which is easy).

Great price 🔥. Does it need a monthly subscription?
    al355's avatar
    No

Is it useable without hub? I don’t need to turn on and off on phone.
    daz_sxi1's avatar
Yes, but you won't be able to set a schedule, just manually put temp up or down.

Does this one have the hub and thermostat both for 59 quids

The advert saya it requires the hive hub..

Best thing I've ever had regarding schedules , holiday mode, etc. It's worth every penny for our needs.
    al355's avatar
That's a full hive with hub (edited)

You need the hub to be able to set schedules, boost etc. all the thermostat will do is increase or lower the temperature without the hub
    Bestbitter's avatar
Not correct. You can set schedules, boost, etc, without the hub. I’ve got one, and I do.
Correction… I have the full thermostat, not the mini, so programming may not be possible without the hub. (edited)

It is hubless......but it says smart hub required? Is this Thread or Matter (or whatever it's called) compatible??? (edited)
    redduck's avatar
From my understanding it doesn't have a Tread radio and there's been no statement on Matter from Hive so I assume not
  9. A57ton's avatar
Isn’t this really an add-on for these that already have a Hive and need this for a 2-zone system?
  10. zhivagouk's avatar
The nest e still cheaper and easier.. Although you need sensors around the house in the winter.

I got this voted hot lol!

    Jus a quick query...

Does this need to Hub or not? I dont care about remote access, Is it possible to use some sort of phone App to control the timings/Temp?

    Thanks in advance
    VforVendetta's avatar
It will need the Hub for phone control. Hive technical support is very good. Try them if you have more query. They will give the best answer.

Bought two already to convert my system to a multi room.

I just bought a Hive Thermostat Mini with hub and 1 year of heating plus direct from Hive for £59.50 plus got TCB and Zilch cashback on top

If I bought without the hub it was only £29.50 which I think is the same as this.
    Billym's avatar
Can you share how you get the great price ?
  15. Joel_Pateman's avatar
I already have hive hub and Thermostat professionally installed, I'm interested in this to give me a second zone, does anyone know if I need to get it installed to work, or is it just setting it up via the app?
    freemz's avatar
I'd like to know this too, could I add this to my existing set up and place, this say on my bed side unit, so I can have controls upstairs as well as downstairs?
  16. daz_sxi1's avatar
Please bear in mind the range on this is ridiculously short! The control unit on the boiler needs to be pretty close to the hub and same with the thermostat.
  17. Shockey's avatar
The hub £60 direct from hive

    hivehome.com/sho…hub

You keep the hub if you move house etc. it locked to one account and cannot be used by other people.

If you want fully kit very off doing it via screwfix £100.

I wouldn't install a hive product even if it was free. They like to suddenly abandon products, leaving them as e-waste.

Only their cameras, and they were vastly overpriced anyway.
  20. Marti.B's avatar
Hi, can this remotely control a boiler in a caravan? Or do I need the hub also?
  21. dragon2611's avatar
I think zigbee2mqtt can support this if you use home assistant etc
  22. Cavs's avatar
Drayton Wiser have issues with creating unwanted schedules out of nowhere. These turn on your boiler and waste energy like a lunatic. Might switch over to this or Nest

Sounds v annoying. Hive had its problems but over the years it’s got more reliable. I bought a bunch of hive TRVs a few years ago and they’ve been great. Can’t quite workout how much they save but it must be something based on what normal TRVs do.
