Is anyone still using this stuff? I thought everyone had moved onto delidding and using liquid metal that cared about good thermal paste from 15 years ago.

I've never tried liquid metal. I should really give it a go sometime, but as much as I love good cooling I'm not really overclocking my CPU so a standard thermal pad has been good enough for my CPU cooling needs for the past couple of years.

And I can't delid a GPU die so thermal paste seems like a reasonable move. You could use a thermal pad or liquid metal for a GPU but that sounds like a bit more work masking up the various components close to the GPU die to prevent any chance of shorting. Arctic MX-6 is my current go-to GPU paste but keen to test a few more.

Do you actually need to replace the paste on a regular desktop Pc? Mine’s only used for light work. I did change the past about 4 years ago and the temperature hasn’t changed since

Are they still just 90*C? :P this paste is gone after 4 years, just due to age. Your fans most likely are louder than before to keep temps at that level. Of course depends of usage, as long your CPU doesn't even have to clock high or jump to 100% usage than you might not feel any difference. But also, you do not monitor temps 24/7 do you? It might be that during those times when your CPU needs to go to 100% it doesn't truly as it cannot boost its clocks due to temp limit.

Is there much difference between this and MX2?

Good price for what it is, and will do the job just fine for most people, but having used the new MX6 I'd say it's worth paying the extra couple of £s if you want the best performance. It does make a degree or 2 difference if you're really chasing performance.

Also consider 𝟴𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 £𝟱.𝟲𝟳 from a different seller amazon.co.uk/ARC…O29 - price keeps fluctuating!

I used to use liquid metal, but it's a pain and makes such a mess. Really hard to clean it off afterwards. Same with the thermal paste, messy and troublesome.

Nowadays I use an IC Graphite Thermal Pad. A bit pricey for what seems like a little square of paper, but it works great for me and I'd never go back. It's literally just like a piece of paper that goes between the CPU and cooler. It doesn't melt, doesn't liquify, doesn't stick to the CPU or cooler, doesn't leave behind any residue or mess. And it's reusable forever. The only downside is it's a bit fiddly to put the cooler on, as the thermal pad can slide around until you have everything locked down tight. (edited)

The other downside, it's not as good at thermal conductivity though right?

Don’t like them they tend to go all over. Delid from THS and use Liquid Metal instead.

I think once you hear the fans kicking in hard.. Then a little hoovering and repasting helps

mx-6 is quite a bit better.

Funnily enough I have changed my paste in 10 years, pc still runs fine. Must have got lucky

I've used this stuff for a few years now and my i5 6600k still has never seen north of 70 degrees even at 4.6GHz all cores.

I'd say CPUs don't need repasting as often as GPUs. I'm not exactly sure why that is as both CPUs/GPUs paste can experience the pump-out effect, but I'm guessing it's more pronounced on GPUs due to them running hotter.

This RX 5700XT I repasted had pumped out the paste from the hottest part of the die, but it wasn't noticed until the fans became super noisy. Cleaning it up and using some fresh Arctic MX-6 dropped the temps about 23c. I never see this kinda happen with a CPU.

possible air bubble from a weird application of thermal paste or some old paste where the solvent is not mixed properly. Also possible the surface flatness isn't that great, so closer metal on metal contact in that spot in particular.

For longevity look at PTM 7950. It's industrial stuff.
