Before anyone asks for a cooler -

Believe me, it's VERY good for that price. (edited)

Thermalright make fantastic coolers, and their customer support is top notch. I was using a TRUE 120 for almost 10 years, I emailed to ask about buying a new mounting plate and they sent me an entirely new cooler instead, free of charge.

What is the cheapest AM5 board out? I don't need fancy stuff, just the basics. Currently on a B450 tomahawk an d a 3700x, been about to click on the 5800x3d for an upgrade but this 7700x could be better in the long run, albeit with a little investment in an am5 board.. hmmm decisions.

I would upgrade to 5800x3d if I had an AM4 system already.

If you didnt have a system, then 100% go 7000.

You'll prob want a close to £200 MB and then DDR5. If you cheap on MB then you wont have good upgrade options for next gen or 2 anyways, so pointless IMO.

Not bad but not worth upgrading from 5700/5800x. Maybe 8700 or 8800x3D with improved DDR5.

Ryzen 8000 are some way off yet if you need now and are building new then AM5 is the most future thinking platform. Of course that will change when Intel's new platform LGA1851 CPUs arrive maybe late 2023 or 2024.

Tricky choice - this or an i5 13600k?

As someone that has been an Intel fanboy most of their life, I'd say this.

    After a little advice please.
I've got a i5-6500, gtx 1060. Is it worth (cost wise) just upgrading my CPU to a better LGA1151 chip and then maybe the GPU to match, or is it worth just rolling a whole new Ryzen build (for basically 1080p gaming)

What motherboard and RAM do you have?

The best CPU upgrade you can get is a cheap 6 core Xeon from AliExpress. It will need a BIOS update. But overall a full platform update will be a lot faster and can be done quite cheaply.

    I have a Gigabyte GA-B150N Phoenix-WIFI, 8gb of DDR4-2400 Corsair LPX. (It's a pretty old PC).
I've seen i could get an i7-7700k but cost wise probably not worth and not sure if i'd need more ram anyway. so another build may just be the better option.
