sorted byI think you'll find these are very similar, but the 709 is the newer atomic line designed to be shorter, more compact range of drills, for what it's worth, my take on it is dcd777 non-hammer, plastic chuck, dcd 778 (especially with 2 x 5.0Ah batteries will come with metal chuck, dcd709 metal chuck.
the 709 pricing is a no-brainer for anyone already invested in Dewalt in my V.humble opinion, but if you're not bothered about the compactness and or don't have any other Dewalt the Screwfix deal is very reasonable.... 5.0Ah =£60 x2=£120 +charger £10=£130, case?£10ish=£140 makes the Dcd778 somewhere in the region of £30... another no brainer, unless you want to look for a kit with an impact driver too, but bear in mind its horses for courses, the impacts really ram stuff home if you're not careful, so for general DIY you might be safer with a drill anyway unless you know what you are doing, that said the impacts are a revelation if you need to drive big and or long lags in etc.. ut if you need that you'd know already trying to help not teach people to suck eggs, for those that know
It's already posted mate, just me forwarding it to this thread
Still not bad I don't feel
Thanks i already have the impact driver it worked great on the decking i was looking at the Hammer option from drill in the link on screwfix as my current drill does not support this feature and is a pain sometimes drilling into masonary does the hammer function make this easier ? and thanks for taking the time
Not at all,
I dont think you'll go far wrong with either of the dewalt hammer drill offerings mentioned.. they are more than capable of general DIY holes in wood/steel/brick as noted in their specs.. I've just seen sooo many people new to diy or drill/driver ownership on these threads, which is great as there is some real quality kit available at honestly decent prices when these offers are on, but I get the feeling a lot of people think oh, driver....1/4"hex must be for driving all screws etc.. and before you know it the IKEA wardrobes are blown out, the picture frame fixing spins freely in the rawl plug and the chineesium screws into metal have wrung their heads off as the uninitiated proudly get their backside handed to them by their shiny new toy
I speak as a fully Initiated member of the been there done that even though I knew better Brigade. (edited)
Thanks, have updated
I'm even more confused. Does the 778 have a plastic or a metal chuck?
According to DeWalt's product page of the *Discontinued* DCD778D2T-GB package (that comes with two 2Ah batteries), it's a plastic chuck
(edited)
It's either ScrewFix or DeWalt and inaccurate product posting, or two different versions of the drill (surely not?) .
DeWalt's product page for search results on the DCD778, has some kits with a plastic chuck, others with a metal. (edited)
Previous deal for this also mentioned metal:

Not sure if anyone has ordered it to confirm?
Would be useful for others to know. You should post it as a deal
Fair enough. Thanks for highlighting it
This is ex vat and the screwfix offer is inc vat
I agree. Was just pointing it out. I have the set with the driver but from a while back with lower spec batteries and very happy with it. Can’t recall what I paid though but at the time it was a good deal
