The film that opened up the Western market for the Hong Kong action genre. John Woo's characteristic mix of anarchic humour and high body-counts coalesce in this action-thriller about a renegade cop who takes on a group of Triad gun-runners who have been hiding their product in a hospital morgue. The film is famous for the scene where Chow Yun Fat attempts to evacuate a maternity ward amidst raining bullets before the hospital explodes. Available in various versions: dubbed or subtitled.

Isn't the transfer better on the 4:3 though, I seem to remember back in the day the R1 Criterion was considered awful, don't remember what the version to get was though, think it was the Dutch R2 or something.

Subtitled, which is the best way to go as there isnt a lot of dialogue and the dub was awful.

The Killer is there for £4 as well. if you like action films and havent seen either film you really need to fix that.

John Woo directing action shootouts in his prime. I was lucky enough to see this on a large screen at a local arthouse cinema in the 90's.

However, here is a link to the greatest shootout ever filmed.

This would be the greatest shootout scene imo. Bonus that it’s directed by John Woo -

John Woo is sadly underrepresented on blu-ray in the UK. Someone like 88 Films needs to rectify this.
