Vodafone is much better in London . I have Vodafone and it has very good speed even in Central London. But Virgin and EE Essentials never worked in Central London for me outside the house .

jackbremer

Real, as seen in Londn Metro newspaper today

COMARANTZ

Even though QUIDCO cashback has now been reduced to £96, it still makes the overall cost of the deal over £2 p.m. less than with TCB. With repeated comments on here about non payment from QUIDCO, it might be a better deal if TCB matched the cashback and paid out.

Simplyalif

Nope.... Just a sim only on virgin mobile.... Don't have any other of their services.... I was just smart enough to get it during the black Friday sale last year.... As this year's black Friday it was only 200gb for £20...

Look at your bill, they seem to have an ability to always do it wrong, always in their favour! I got a discounted 12 month contract and also an account credit. The credit disappeared very quickly. When I looked in to it, It turned out they had charged the full price not the discounted price, meaning the account credit was used up much more quickly.. Its not obvious because of the way they set out the bill, with the various discounts they use, to get your final price. Be warned...

alebastra

No, not even Virgin's new Project Lightning FTTH in a rural areas. So no running IPTV home servers for you:)

drumboe

So not a true fibre connection?

alebastra

Virgin Media is a cable operator. It use hybrid technology (HFC), mixture of coaxial copper and fibre-optics, based on DOCSIS. Hence their asymmetrical up/down speeds. POTS ( copper phone lines) used for good old telephone services only.

A good deal so they probably ran out of Sims

barry_burton

They were running special offers through December. Suspiciously cheap offers. I signed up for a 30 day contract with 10gb unlimited mins unlimited texts. Normal price £10 p/m but discounted to £5 p/m with the discount lasting for 12 months.

I'd never heard of ctrl so what was the reason for buying from them. There not the cheapest.

To answer my own question, I've just called my bank and disputed the debit card payment on the grounds of the goods not being received. So hopefully I can get my £4.99 back from these fools

brilliant Richie1. Much easier to do this than to haggle and will be offered the maximum discount they can give. This is why important to know what deals are around and also don't forget the quidco/topcashback for the cashback :D

burmingum

Thanks a lot!

xx123

I don’t use PM’s, but if you want to try it’s simple. Give notice and when they try and keep you tell you don’t care about speed and you don’t want the phone line. Say you’re going to go with whoever is cheapest at the time, it was £17 late last year and that’s what they offered.

cooley

Don't forget a refer a friend (you refer your missus?) before you leave and let the missus take the reins. Also quidco paid me £220 12 months ago (not as much at moment but still worth doing).

cooley

That is exactly what I'm going to do in three days.

In all fairness I've not had many problems with them in ten years or so, but on those occasions they've been a complete pain to deal with and point blank refuse to contemplate the issue might be at their end. Tech support are worse than useless too. One issue with a dodgy endpoint took them a month to fix, despite it being plainly obvious to anyone who can do basic fault finding that the issue was inside their network. That said, it's rare I get less than I'm paying for. This is in the Greater Manchester area FWIW.

alex1972

Seems my 1 year contract has just expired and my 200Mb basic phone and TV that was £37 has now gone up to £52. Bill just arrived 5 minutes ago by email. Had loads of issues, so I wont miss when I cancel.

spaceinvader

213Mbps? It's like driving a car that does 5mpg, paying cash for pointless performance 99.9% of the time, 36mb and I can dload a movie in a few mins and stream Netflix. Huge families or student houses, sure... everyone else... it's about number willy waving.

jameswalker457

I've been absolutely conned. I'm a customer of 2 years and made out they was doing me a favour for 50mb and 50 quid credit for 25 per month. I've got the broadband with no phone as well.

gyro85

Yep deal was £25 with bill credit for 200mb, landline + weekend calls There was a decent offer on TV + 100mb at the time which helped as I just argued I didn’t need TV and would rather keep quick internet

That's exactly what I got today with £50 credit as well, happy with that so not going to mess about more. Got offered the above but for £70 yesterday just laughed at that and asked they cancel. Yeah all of the hubs aren't good but the 3 is the worse due to the Puma chipset it uses. Even in modem mode latency is a problem.

joeluken

I was upgraded from Super Hub 2 to Super Hub 3 when I was with Virgin but it didn't improve WifI coverage much which was patchy. Found the TalkTalk unit doesn't have the same issue in my house and appears to work much better (obviously not with Virgin cable). I guess if its free that's OK but don't expect much.

All new-ish Cat 5e cables, not that it would effect latency.

Post office had a good deal, £15.99 a month for two year's, am contemplating my options.

jai47

Is this not the way of life these days? Gone are the days of customer loyalty - I remember when Orange was around I used to get 10% off my bill each time i renewed. Ended up getting to the point where they couldn't go any lower before EE took over. The only small perk to switching around each year is cashback offers but I'd much rather just pay less rather then waiting 6 months to then find out a cashback claim was not tracked thanks to HUKD tracking cookies over ruling TopCashBack cookies. (shock)

Bendown

I am the same, tried calling last night but after 40 minutes gave up. every year its a price increase, I do not need such speeds anyway, no way would i ever have anymore services off these people. What is the alternative though when they disconnect?

bigdaveplym

Just had all my services deactivated as I declined their new contract offer with a reduction in bb speed to 50mbs from 100mbs for an increased monthly charge. Had enough of the annual having to haggle.

I've been paying £19.50 a Month for the same deal for the last year including line rental and weekend calls. My deal is ending on 6th January and the best they've offered me from the OUTGOING TEAM (one beyond retentions) is the equivalent of £23.45 a Month which includes the£50 bill credit, which represents a 20% increase on what I've been paying for a reduced service ! Outrageous in my opinion. They seem to be extremely mean this year and attempting to claw in a lot more for a lot less. My cancellation is in and I'm awaiting new year sale deal's.
