The 256GB SSD version is still in stock. Must...resist...

Scratch that, the 256GB version gone now too. Thankfully.

Recently looked at a similar medion laptop, but couldn't justify spending that much. ended up buying a 2nd hand Dell laptop on ebay for circa £350. There are a lot of very good laptops out there for less than half the money of a new one, but you'd have to be happy to go for the older stuff.

The newer stuff hasn't really progressed too much in the sub £1k bracket, mainly just better power consumption and slightly better screens.

The laptop I've bought is an older Dell M4700 - cpu (3940XM) and gfx card (AMD FirePro M4000) - fitted a new SSD and it easily manages the games I play in high settings (CSGO & Diablo 3 mainly). The 3940xm is an animal!

No, that's the review of this model with very low average score: 63.5%...https://www.notebookcheck.net/Medion-Erazer-X7843-MD9957.155311.0.html
This percentage is due to one good review and one bad, not really good statistics to go off.

Yes, i know, but it's still crap.

As I said earlier it's discontinued, so those of you who ordered may not get it. Though I hope you do.

I thought i'd not be bothered by a card using a blower style cooler but after getting a card with just that, it put me right off, they are so loud compared to aftermarket I'll never get a blower again - if you don't mind noise then this is great but if you even remotely think that noise will bother you, don't make the same mistake I did, it'll drive you nuts.

Also, the amount of heat it puts on the I/O is really off putting for me
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/asus-1070-blower-amazon-318-94-2720744 - i guess that £1.20 in price drop makes all the difference in heat

Better wash my clothes and feed my dogs for that price. These prices are crazy!! I'll stick to 1080p thanks
ST3123
Is it twice as powerful? Probably less than 20% faster is my guess...

It's around 20-25% faster.
It also has 11GB of VRAM for what it's worth.

It's never going to be the price : performance king but that's the price you pay at the top end.
If you want to max out 4K for run high refresh rates then the 1080 Ti is a solid purchase.
mamboboy
the high end card never gives most performance for price ratio, but the truth is, this is the only card that can do stable 100fps for those with 3440x1440 or 60fps for those at 4K. The 1080 struggles at those resolutions.

It all depends what your criteria are though. I game at 4K on a GTX1060. Admittedly I'd prefer a 1080, but it is entirely doable on lower end hardware if you are smart with the settings and don't mind lower framerates. I don't mean low settings either, you can usually keep most things on high and just disable AA (and maybe tweak things like shadows and reflections). AA is a total waste with the pixel density of 4K. As I play on console too (where 30fps is standard) I target the same 30fps in newer games, which looks fine to me as it is what I am used to from playing on consoles too. That said older titles like Trackmania Turbo, Trials etc will happily do 60fps plus at 4k anyway.

I think it's a very elitist view that you have to have a 1080ti plus to play at higher resolutions as you clearly don't unless you are targeting max settings or very high fps, which not everyone needs to enjoy a game. Digital foundry, did a very good piece on 4K gaming with a GTX970, which is a good 20%+ slower than the 1060....

Sorry but freezing deal. I don't think that in general the 1080ti is the best value high end card anyway even at £700. Until recently (thanks miners) i had seen gtx1080s popping up at just a bit over £400. I know its not as powerful but is the ti really worth nearly twice the price? Is it twice as powerful? Probably less than 20% faster is my guess...

Most people are undervolting cards to get the most efficient ratio. Running a 1 card rig at approx 250W will be around £1 per day of electricity at 17p/kwh. The mining profit calculators let you input power and factors it into the cost.

You can't mine bitcoin with a profit on a GPU.All the GPU's are sold out because the price of Ethereum is up approx 3000% since the start of the year. An RX 480 or GTX 1070 is currently producing around £4-5 per day in profit so everyone has jumped on the bandwagon. What people don't realise is difficulty rises exponentially and there is a large risk a majority of people that have bought GPU's to mine within the last month won't see a return on their money and ebay will end up flooded with £100 RX 480 cards.

is that £4 -£5/day profit after electricity is taken in account?....I cant see how mining can ever be profitable with electricity prices keep rising, unless ur running it off solar power but that itself is a large amount to set up for the power u need

Any idea when this might happen. The dump of rx 480s i mean.

Could be a month, could be 6 months. It depends if any more profitable coins replace Ethereum as the difficulty increases and currently nobody knows. There are supposedly massive preorders on the next batch of RX570/580 cards due the end of June / start of July so prices will definitely stay over inflated until those have all sold.

Hmm,

I asked the 2 questions about (above backpack and free game) so cheers for confirming you got a backpack @gerdleah. It now appears laptopsdirect have sneakily REMOVED the photos of the backpack and have updated their listing with the FREE rocket league game with the purchase.

I asked them to confirm if you get the backpack now or not but they haven't replied to my email, so I'm gonna buy another laptop elsewhere instead.
I have an MSI GE72 6QD from last year. It's essentially the predecessor to this laptop and I was very impressed with it (even if I am new to PC gaming).
The GTX 1050 is supposed to give a 30% improvement on performance over the 960M in my laptop, and mine can run MGS5, Dishonored 2 and The Witcher 3 on Very High at 30-45 fps. Not perfect but enough for more casual gaming. Back then that laptop cost £950 as a special deal, so this seems like a bargain.

You might want to find a laptop with more VRAM in its graphics card, as this only has 2GB. Might not be very futureproof. You might want to do some more research and not take my word for it though. The processor used seems a bit overkill compared to the graphics card, but it will allow for very quick encoding of videos if that's your thing.

What I can vouch for in this laptop (as it is very similar to mine) is excellent audio out of the jack; a vast collection of IO; solid IPS display; great boot times (thanks to the SSD + HD); good RGB backlit keyboard and passable trackpad.

Mine was reportedly quite hard to open up and you may void your warranty, so consider that. However you can most likely upgrade the available RAM to at least 16GB. Some distributors will arrange this for you on request (as mine did) so you can keep your warranty and avoid breaking something.
Just received the laptop and I can confirm it comes with the backpack. At work just now so will let you know if you get a free game too.
I never saw a free game comment. Can't see it now either. Some sites seem to be offering Rocket League though for laptops over £500. This is just speculation though.
I can't say for certain the back pack will come but it's coming tomorrow. If it's not in there I will be complaining to Laptop direct!

PMSL, more than 66 Sold.

So that's 66 Morons with no common sense.

For starters, its advertised as BRAND NEW, well its uses 5 Year Old Processors, states it uses Tier 1 boards form Intel, Dell, HP, so that clearly shows the boards are OEM ones form another mediocre Business Grade Desktop.

Basically they have bought loads of cheap business grade desktops that have been used for a minimum of 3-5 years everyday in an office, took them out of their original cases and just installed in an aftermarket case.

But they are probably making upwards of £400 plus a unit, so 66 who bought one made them quite a decent return.

There all over ebay, never seen one quite this cheap but something like https://www.encore-pc.co.uk/stone-full-tower-i3-3240-3-40ghz-320gb-hard-drive-2gb-memory is what i'd imagine he means. Unless you can pick one up as cheap as he did though I wouldn't go that route. I'd build my own for around the same price with newer components or it that's not something you want to try or would enjoy doing then PCspecialist seem to be OK. You'll get a decent machine for <1k but expect to pay around a 20% premium at best.

Cheers, more than happy to build one, used to do it for a living a few years ago. Looking for something as cheap as possible for my youngest to play Minecraft on, so doesn't need a blistering spec. Will have a look at parts & costs.

Don't rush into this though, as much as you may want to play games, it's better to make sure you know you're making the right decisions for you.

The most important thing right now is making sure you do get a Ryzen 1600, though. As there is no better CPU for the price/performance.

If you get the parts over a few weeks rather than all at once, you can likely get them cheaper as I mentioned before.

1070's often drop in price to 350 or around there give or take. etc.

It also gives you more time to do your own research, and decide if you really want XX part.

Hmm, thought about mining before but didn't think it would be worth it for the average user either. Might have to rethink. Thing is, is it true that it is really bad for the GPU and can/will kill it within months?

Don't want to ruin my PC for a few extra £s per week, if it's even that?

That said, I would have thought that so long as the cooling is good enough to stop it overheating at full load, it should be ok....

This deal is exactly why I never sort by highlight or hot on this site.

Good deal buried by people who don't understand relative worth of the card

Thanks OP. I've taken the plunge and ordered :-D
Nice :)

From all the reviews I read, it's one of the quietest and coolest air cooled 1080's there is.

Has my post been downvoted by an MSI bot or something

I just got a 1080 amp extreme off ebay for 485 and it wipes the floor with this card in tests. Good price though for a reputable brand. Heat added.

this card overclocks further than the zotac amp extreme . . . especially since the amp extreme is so poor at overclocking despite needing 2 8 pin connectors

GORETEX is a fully waterproof and breathable membrane. I wouldn't go diving in them but they should withstand heavy downpours

Breathable is a subjective term...
There are better but not below £60.
Would people recommend these shoes for Hill walking? I've recently had surgery so cannot go to the gym or go cycling, but I want to keep fit and active by doing lots of walking over the summer months. If there are any other shoes/boots/trainers that people would recommend I'm more than happy to consider them too :-) Thanks
Used them for hill walking - very good grip, and during -20C temperatures abroad, 2-3 hours outside while walking on snow pathes, without noticing any discomfort . Sole wears out to quickly. I would rate them 4 out of 5.

Tempting. My current trail runners got brutalised at Tough Mudder, I think it's the end for them :(
My Adidas Kanadia have lasted two Tough Mudders and an X-Runner - pop them in the washer and they're good as new. Think I only paid £35 for them and would certainly buy again.

I suppose the issue with this deal is, even if they intend to honour the price, it might take them weeks to get more cards in the current market.
What's this mining busines everyone is onto at the moment? Presumably nothing to do with bitcoin...or is it?
product is back on the site but at 397.54 eur, still awaiting stock.

I've bought a 2nd user 1080ti for £450 and a 1080 Asus strix for 340, all for mining so the 1070 if it does arrive would fit in nicely

Voted cold, for the reason that a product costing over #600 GBP should not have those issues...
I have the same model and no issues so seems luck of the draw. Bear in mind coil whine can be caused by a faulty/poor quality PSU rather than the card itself.

[EDITED] To clarify my initial answer. I'm just agreeing with the commentary of LuckyFog here, who represents also my same viewpoint. And therefore also voting cold = -1 score:

Would it be silly buying a GTX 1080 now when I don't plan on completing my build until September when I can afford all the parts?I am very tempted by these deals on at the moment, I can get MSI Aero OC 1080 for £450 then £43 cash back and a free copy of Destiny 2 which I very much intend to buy anyway. So technically getting a 1080 for £360 which seems like a bargain.

Even with it being likely that AMD will have finally announced Vega by then 360 quid is a good price for a 1080. No guarantee there won't be another deal in 3 months though.

It's weird, when the 980Ti was the primary card, Windows was practically unresponsive while mining ETH, now with the 1080Ti it's fine. Good plan with the 1070, ETH mining difficulty is set to double in August so long term might not be so profitable, but for now it's free money :D

Which miner are you using?
It will be interesting to see what happens when the difficulty does jump. If all that hashing power suddenly get's unleashed on other coins there's probably not got be anything left that's worth mining. But as you say until that happens it's free money :D .

Hmm. I moved from British Gas last year and they offered me nothing of the sort!
Nice setup. I'm using my gaming PC as well. Just sold on the old 970 maybe I should have kept it for mining :D .
After trying ZEC I may use that and use shapeshift if I want to hold some ETH.
EWBF's miner reports 636 Sol/s at 161W and the 1080ti stays under 65C. A nice side benefit is that the computer remains completely usable while mining. With the ETH miners I tried I was getting stutter while they ran. This way I only need to turn the miner off to play a game.
Might keep an eye out for a cheap 1070 to pop in there for a month or two :D .

I'm with British Gas, one year collective fix from last year, it's something like 9.8p per unit IIRC.

My setup is a 1080Ti and a 980Ti, both limited to 80% TDP, and a power hungry 3930K :D It's my gaming PC that I've repurposed for a few weeks, if I was building a mining rig I would have a much more efficient processor.

don't know why this is so so cold, but from personal experience this card does run very hot, as the evga base cooler is only a single disk and doesn't cover vrms, worth the extra however much to get the SC edition, as I ended up dropping about 20°C and clocked 300Mhz higher

Poor buy for something which should be cheaper because of the mining craze.
Best to wait a few weeks for Vega or when mining crashes in about 3 months like the last time and there is a big GPU dump on ebay for cheap.
RX 580s aren't supposed to be this cheap, the price is about right for a RX 570

I have recently purchased this laptop through 'buy now pay later' and was wondering if the date you stated (13th June 2017) the latest it can be applied? As it is currently the 14th and the credit still hasn't been applied, thanks.

hi, would this harm my credit profile as they might say not successful?
also would I know it at the point of purchase so I know if I could get that 20% off instead need to pay full price
It's a credit check so everyone could be refused but if yours is good then you most likely be accepted. You start by creating an account and then applying for credit if you accepted then you will see how much credit they give you then try and order an item with bnpl in the basket. If there is no option for bnpl or the bnpl code don't work (whilst i the basket) then your not eligible. Simple

Hi, thanks a lot.

Sweet, so you're happy with a Skoda instead of a Focus because they are both cars.Don't confuse people with different products, regardless of your own decision that it's the same, when in fact its a completely different SKU.
If the Focus and Skoda have the same engine, drive at the same speed, use the same amount of fuel, and are both hidden from view at all times..... Then yes, your analogy is accurate.

What about the ride comfort and tactile response, would they be the same?

Had one of these ordered from flubit only yesterday for £189 (plus £9 cashback).I was super happy, and (once it was dispatched) was going to post it on here.Turned out too good to be true; the supplier(armcoshop.co.uk) was BSing, advertising stock they didn't have. Order cancelled.

I'd also ordered one of these of Flubit, ordered cancelled almost immediately and now a different supplier shows on the Flubit item page. Every other order I've made through Flubit has been fine so I'm inclined to believe it was the supplier screwing around rather than Flubit. I managed to pick up a second hand EVGA card which, with their transferable warranty and good customer service, is as good as a new one as far as I'm concerned.

The gigabyte one is passive at low loads whilst that MSI one has a min 50% fan speed. So if noise is a concern the Gagabyte would be a better buy
It doesn't make any noise, inaudible. If you cared, you can make a custom fan curve.
It does make a noise, I owned one. You also can't set the fan curve lower than 50% on this model.

I have one, and i cannot hear it.

Edit: even just went to check now, put my ear near the case, fan speed 49%, pretty much silent like msi cards are.

I am looking at the Currys one atm and also one I found with Dell directly (see comments for info on the JL deal I posted). Any thoughts on what's best?
Thanks Nutkin. Aparrently (from what i can glean) the B156HTN05.2 is supposed to be a 120Hz TN panel that is G-Sync-capable. Costing approximately #50GBP. Do you agree?

Now this is where it gets interesting... the G-Sync. Because that is essentially some form of FreeSync implementation over the eDP port. Meaning there may be no special 'G-Sync' module (which would otherwise also be missing from this laptop). However NVIDIA protects this with some form of DRM. As per other forum commentary elsewehere on the interwebs. We have this little gem:

"
By the way, you are not going to have G-Sync on your Inspiron 15 7000 series notebook. G-Sync requires several specific things to function. While you are buying a G-Sync certified panel, you are missing the signed G-Sync "cookie" for your dGPU and panel p/n in the BIOS, do not have a G-Sync compatible dGPU (correct PCI ID and vBIOS) matching the "cookie," and do not have a direct connect between the dGPU eDP output to the panel."

https://slickdeals.net/f/9849488-dell-inspiron-15-7467-gaming-laptop-i5-7300hq-8gb-ddr4-256gb-ssd-gtx-1050-ti-750-free-s-h?p=97445356#post97445356

So there is that to also consider. Perhaps (if anyone else can do this :D also give an IPS panel model number. As an alternative for those who want to avoid TN, and get an IPS instead (despite lower refresh rate).

And if anyone knows which Dell Model number(s) are TN, and which are for IPS revision. That we could determine what we are buying. If a screen replacement is even necessary anymore after product revision(s). That would also ineed be very helpful too. Many thanks.
Replacement screen recommendation

B156HTN05.2
I'm looking at these laptops for the last few weeks on the outlet. I'm guessing the outlet models will have the bad screens as older stock etc...
would love to know the replacement screen details too! :D

Pretty sure this model's screen is actually terrible. In the USA they replaced the displays used but in the UK it doesnt look to be that way

2 backplate slots, it's aimed at slimline Micro ATX cases rather than small cases.

The one time great is looking a little dated these days - and while it has a Maxwell chipset, it's Maxwell V1 - which DOES NOT get FL12 support - has to be Maxwell V2 for that.

It'll be too slow for gaming before feature level 12 is required so it's not a big deal.

No, double slot means it takes up the width of two slots, the fan is thicker than 1slot, it will still only require one PCI-E slot on the motherboard though.
I got a small form factor 2gb 950 for just over a hundred, that was a year ago, and that runs l intensive games on high / ultra still

With G-Sync on and V-Sync off you will get tearing when yr FPS exceed yr displays maximum refresh rate. Have a read of this........

G-SYNC is a must in 2017.
It's not though, is it! Unless you're running a high end rig and don't want V Synce enabled then it's not, even then, it's still not.
V-Sync should be on when G-Sync is on. G-Sync only works when you you are in the G-Sync range which is above 30fps but below the max refresh rate of the monitor. V-Sync will cap the FPS to keep you in the G-Sync range. Gaming with G-Sync is far superior to gaming without, and if spending over £1100 on a laptop you should expect to have it.

It didn't need too be. V Sync is to do screen tearing and so is g sync. I never have v sync on as I just have my g sync monitor. Why buy one if you have v sync on.

The Promotion is valid on new purchases as detailed in the Qualifying Products section of this website.
And the invoice will actually state 'used' so cashback very unlikely.
If you download the full Amazon invoice, not the Order Summary, it doesn't mention it's used.
I've claimed cashback from Warehouse items before from Sony for example.

Waste of time for this money (you can easy get cheaper on ebay etc.)
First of all you might get not working card(they don't check returns) ,and will be used anyway
second of all you will wait months for any MSi cashback on graphic cards (some other company does this not MSI and that company keeps money as long they can for interest.).
Plus 43 pounds is gross and you will only get 34.4 after tax ....
All true what you say, especially getting cashback out of MSI the 'third-party' they use is absolute garbage & ended up more trouble than it was worth chasing them up about it.
Don't think cashback is tax deductible though where did you hear that? I've always been paid full advertised amount
Last time I tried to claim my cashback for Rx 480 8gb (it should have been 20% of original price).
Everybody got 20% minus 20% of tax and it was 16% of original price ,that was excuse they use when people started to asking why 16% instead of 20% ?
I have got this 5 or 6 months after I bought my card and it was pain in the ass ,never again .

Doesn't surprise me. The 'third-party' they use for cashback is so bad it actually damages MSI's reputation... met a lot of people who are sworn off MSI for good after getting burned on cb promos one way or another

Bought one last week and seemed to get a duff one. Ran very hot, GFX corruption & crashing. Dropped my 980Ti back in and all is good again. Sending back today.
Awesome card, bit flimsy though..

I looked at this rather than the msi gaming x but I've seen quite a few reports of coil whine on this card. At least with amazon you have easy returns if you have an issue
I have the ti gaming X and it's really outstanding and completely silent. I've been playing rise of the tomb raider again and with this card at 4K I can max everything out. Obviously AA isn't needed.
Graphically the game looks truly lifelike. I have also added a reshade mod which enhances the game even more.
If ever there was a reason to have ti custom card this is it.
I'd always go for MSI as they are so well built.
I have the Gaming X too. Good card but the backplate gets burning hot...my 1070 never got this hot. But that's minor, since you're not going to be touching your card whilst you play games...

I've just bought this for £779 off ebuyer got it next day delivered and a AAA game so hey not that bothered with all the delivery wait etc
Damn. I don't want to collect my MSI card now. This was the card I wanted; second only to the FTW3.

Update: Cancelled my MSI delivery and have ordered this.
Google is saying conversion comes to £679 yet Amazon is saying £691. Crooks :/

You can get the Aorus (MPN: GV-N108TAORUS-11GD) if you prefer that for only £638-640 from Amazon.it inc shipping. Which is every bit as good as this card, if you don't fancy paying Asus tax.

At this sort of level the cards build quality and more so how it looks play a big part of deciding which to go for (as shallow as that is).

Got this card and been super impressed with it. That price is very reasonable for the performance

I have to say, that until Wednesday, then it's a bad time to purchase. I am sure these deals will be around by then, and nearly £690 isn't cheap for a GTX 1080 Ti.

What the guy above said, you'll get an idea of price and performance hopefully, which could have an effect on these prices. It's worth hanging on for a few days to find out. :)
I see.
Fingers crossed for AMD.
They've been absolutely knocking it out of the park this year with their low-mid tier GPUs and their entire line of Ryzen CPUs, hopefully they'll be able to start competing at the enthusiast end again soon! I'm just hoping their 1070 competitor is similar in price to the 1070 so I don't kick myself for having bought one last week!

Zotac gtx 1050ti mini 4gb
Picked up a used GTX 970 from Ebay for £108 delivered for my ITX build in the Tiny Silverstone SG13 case. Blower style so perfect for keeping the temperatures down in such a small case and no where near as noisy as people try and make out and only needs 1 6pin power lead.

Easy overclock to near enough GTX 1060 6GB speeds too.

You can pick up a used 3gb 1060 mini for about 30 quid more which urinates on these from a great height performance wise.

If you just need one for a HTPC, get a 1030. if you want to play games at decent setting and frame rates, get a used 970 or 1060
Uncommon.Sense
Why would you want this in an HTPC, isn't it a bit too powerful for just media decoding? :)

For your average grandma kodi user with a CRT TV yes its too powerful. However for anyone who values quality then no. AFAIK there are no ITX motherboards with built in HDMI 2.* needed to output UHD HDR 10bit at 60 FPS. There are hacked up versions of DP converters but they come with their own issues like not being able to bitstream audio.

So the easiest and future proof way I could figure out how to get all what I wanted at the time of building my HTPC was to stick a GTX 1060 in it. So now I can Upscale 1080 content using the amazing madvr and its fine for the lower / medium settings.

what was the point in this comment? you told me why Flubit aren't allowed on HUKD then went on to make an obvious statement of prices go up and down... £597 for FE is still a really good deal regardless of the AMP deal. I still don't see the point in that spout of "I found a good deal before you! and it has a better coole so nyeeeehhhhhh" haha.

You took that completely the wrong way, I was saying that the risk of using Flubit vs. the saving offered may not be deemed as 'worth it' to a lot of folk. As for the Zotac deal, that would have been at the same time as your FE deal, so was a completely relevant comparison, and the Zotac has a 5 years warranty, not just a much better cooler. If you don't think a 5 warranty and superior cooler is worth £20, then that's fine but many other people would disagree.

Well you all could have taken advantage of this deal when it was running. I posted it but HUKD removed it almost instantly because they dont like Flubit? Thanks for letting the word get out HUKD. I'll enjoy my FE for £102 less than original release price and still a he'll of alot cheaper than everywhere else.https://ibb.co/fAr2sa

It's because with Flubit they can't tell you which retailer will be used, and if they are actually any good. So having a deal like that would mean it's not going ot be always equal. Looking at when you got your FE 11-12 days ago, then you did OK, but the FE was about £610 from a feew of the EU Amazon sites, and I posted a Zotac AMP! deal for less than £619 delivered, which trounces the FE card for £20 less.

just a feminine curiosity, was anyone able to get one?
Went to Coventry (Alvis Park) today, none to be found. The lad checked other stores too.
for the people that does not read or noticed what I wrote:
on the 22 of May, the system in Fulham was saying 1 in stock in WIMBLEDON, OXFORD STREET AND TWICKENHAM but you can check other stores more far away if you live in central London. Obviously this is a National offer on the very last display unit which is unused and brand new. Also note that you might find the 2gb version at just over £86 and there was 1 in Fulham bridge available on the 22 of May

Great card for the price! bought it about 5 months ago for £210,
this and the 1070 version are great if you are doing a small build,
Only about a tenner more than the cheapest 6GB 1060s on the market right now, and that's a tenner well spent if you're planning to put this in a small form factor case. I've just bought the 1070 version of this card to cram into the tiniest case I can, where the shorter PCB will free up some much needed room for cable management and airflow.

Heat from me!
Supposed to be one of the better mini cards too!
well nice bruv
