sorted byLowest they go is £20 a couple of times a year on Amazon for 3ah ones, theyre typically nearer £40 currently, plus a charger which tend to be £25.
Brilliant drill but if you're starting off may be batter buying a tool with the battery and charger and then buying the drill separately.
It really is an excellent drill
It won’t match my other Makita collection (that doesn’t get used!)
Anyone in a trade that owns a Makita tool will already have batteries. I have 5 or 6 batteries so this is perfect for me
Completely missing the point of this site. If you want cheap tools, that's perfectly fine. But for those who actually want a high end tool to work with day in and day out, this is a good heads up. Voting hot just to cancel out your pointless cold vote...
I agree an excellent drill for most jobs. I bought into the Makita tools about a year ago and have been holding out for the batteries to come down in price while using cheap Chinese batteries.
I would say definitely keep an eye out for a full kit! They can be picked up for as little as £120 with a couple of batteries, fast charger and makpac 👌
£35-40 for a 3amp, prices risen since last year and hard to get good deals at the moment.

Yes
This is an excellent drill for the money . I purchased myself after many failed expensive drills over the years and really pleased with it . screwfix.com/p/m…7fx (edited)
Sounds like you have the clutch on. Have you switched it to the drill setting?
I haven't had any problems using it on brick either and even managed to drill through thick concrete slabs.
Nope, that`s a Li-ION thing. Manufacturers recommend that when battery tools are not being used for considerable periods that the batteries should be charged within 12 months. As once they are dead flat they can become unable to hold a charge.
Incidentally, I`ve got a couple of these that i picked up from screwfix when the white ones came out and they are good drills. From memory when i got them they were on promo with hardcase, fast charger and 2 off 3Ah batteries for around £125 or there abouts (an absolute steal). Haven`t had any problems drilling into anything with them. The hammer is not as great as my SDS drill but that`s to be expected (use the right tool for the job). If your looking for a good all rounder can`t go wrong with these and unlike some cheaper brands unless your side cutting with drills (which hand drilling machines are not designed for) you won`t knock the chuck eccentric.
Seconded... excellent for all DIY tasks and even better with the two batteries
Yes* and yes
*I can't recommend non-genuine batteries
Around 50-60 for a 5.0 depending on seller. Got charger for 30 on amazon. Had mine a year. Its a good buy
Lidl - Parkside 20V drill for around £40 - they were recently there so you may still get one.
I've been using the older 18V Parkside drill for around 5 years for some serious DIY projects and I can't fault it. Bought as a stop-gap but have never had the need to change it and it's still going strong. I've only got 2 x 1.5Ah batteries but they last way longer than you would expect. Recently put up an 8 x 6 shed and one battery did it with charge to spare.
Keep eye out though. If not in a rush occasionally the 3ah ones sell on amazon for 16quid!

I have this exact drill and it is great at most things but the hammer setting isn't great. It will drill into concrete blocks ok, and drills through mortar but even with brand new drill bits it really struggles on the red bricks that my house is made of.
It also doesn't seem great for using with wire wheels / sanding wheels etc. As you put any side pressure on it just makes a noise instead. I presume it is supposed to do this as a protection thing.
Is it any good for masonry?
Yes, acceptable for a combi. For serious work consider an SDS
any recommended charger for this?
For those looking for an alternative I bought 3 Workzone 18v cordless drills from Aldi a couple of years ago for £19 each in the clearance sale. They all came with 2 batteries , charger and zipped storage bag so you've always got a spare battery which charge in no time. They also have the LED light for when you are putting up shelves in the dark ...LOL.
Gave one to my retired marine engineer father shortly before he passed away and another to my HGV mechanic and handy DIYer brother and they both love(d) them.
I use mine on DIY and garden jobs , take it with the caravan as its handy to raise and lower the corner steadies in seconds, shelved and boarded out my large shed and garage and next task is to put my driveways LED solar ground marker lights down in the next day or two (fixing into red brick at the edge of tarmac when my stainless screws arrive). The batteries have loads of power and last ages. Ample adjustable torque and hammer action for brickwork. Highly recommend and as as good as a number of premium brands I've used.
Now cant wait for Aldi's £30 18v cordless Deco Style paint gun to come back into stock as I dropped the one I had and it has been unavailable since then. (edited)
So the batteries are unusable now as I try and it does not charge. Learned a lesson I guess.
