It's really one of those things where you value the experience over cost.

Seconded. For any children of the 80s or early 90s it's a must. Absolutely brilliant, staff are excellent and really ensure you have fun.

I've been to the London one twice and just want to share my experience.

The first time we went was not long after it opened and it was probably the best experience we've done to date since living in London - adrenaline, exclusivity, teamwork and competition all wrapped into one. Absolutely loved it. The only issue we had was we'd booked a package with a drink/cocktail included after the event at the on-site bar but they'd hired the space out privately and told us we'd have to come back another time - we complained and they eventually let us sit at a table and have what we'd booked.

Because we had such a great experience overall we returned at the end of last year (there's enough games to return and not play the same one twice) but this time we left feeling rather disappointed. The whole experience is looking rather tired and in need of a refresh - for example there is a slide to enter the aztec zone which is knackered so access is via some stairs and the back door instead (which aren't themed like the rest of the place), and more significantly the giant scales they use to weigh how many notes you collect in the dome at the end don't work anymore (so they give everyone a score of 999 on the leaderboard which means you leave the place feeling rather unfulfilled if you've got a competitive streak like me).

We once again booked the package through Buyagift that includes a free drink/cocktail at the on site bar afterwards, but this time we came down to find that the staff had closed up for the night and we were once again told that we'd have to come back another time for our drinks. We complained and after 15 mins of waiting around the manager agreed to serve us but it was standard drinks only as 'they didn't know how to make the cocktails' (or rather couldn't be bothered to use and wash all of the utensils again).

I'm gutted as it's left a really bitter taste in my mouth about what started as, and could still have been a top-notch experience. I'd say it's worth it at the price of this deal if you haven't been before but otherwise give it a miss. And don't bother with the included drinks offers because it'll just sour your experience. I went to one in London a few years ago and it was fab. There was a team in each of the 4 zones but pretty much I think they all finished each zone about the same time to move to the next so there was no hanging about as such. Our team's host was great, a bit quirky. All 4 teams came together at the end for the Dome and so then we saw all the other hosts who were all very different personalities.

Puzzles were good I thought, we had 4 games per zone so 16 in total between team of 8, so 2 each altogether.

For the london one I felt the Aztec zone was just like the one you see on TV, sand on the floor etc, really really good. If I had to be picky, the futuristic one looked a little more low budget but no less enjoyable. I understand there is a newer one in london now too, not sure if the old remains as well.

No prizes, just the glory of being on the leader board (or not...). We did each get a crystal although it was a block booking for a birthday so i'm not sure if that was standard or not.

I would thoroughly recommend and can't wait to go back.

I did this with friends in London with friends a few months ago, we purchased the 8 person planetoffers ticket because it worked out cheaper then a ticket for 6 people. It just meant we got to do more "challenges". Deffo reccomend it, was really good fun, and yes - you get to have a go in a fully functioning crystal dome.

It was fun, but felt short, and for the cost + experience. I would rather spend that money on an escape room, the fun lasts longer and isn't small bursts of engagement.

I honestly think you attended something different because that wasn't the experience.

You're given a good 1 - 2 hours inside the place with around 16 rooms or so - most Escape Rooms being 30mins - 1hr. After experiencing numerous Escape Rooms, I can 100% tell you this is miles better.

Escape Rooms are more engaging, I agree but only because you're all trapped in a room with the main objective being to escape as a team so obviously it's going to be more engaging for everyone. Not just this, you always get that one person who decides to become the leader.

If you watched Crystal Maze you'd realise this before going. Each person is given a chance to complete a room based of their particular skill chosen by the team leader, with the other team motivating and helping out via verbal cues and prompts - that's how it works.

If you went expecting to be the center of attention or expecting to throw yourself in, you're getting the wrong idea.

You have it wrong at no point I wanted to be the center of attention... Are you being serious? What sort of accusation is that?

We had a team of 7, you get about 2 rooms each. Some members got 3 to compensate the missing member. Each room lasts about 3 minutes, it's small burst of engagement.
You help your team mates on, yes this is true. But before the games get anywhere the excitement is more or less over. This is what left me thinking if I had paid for it, I would've been a little disappointed. Not because I wanted to be the centre of attention... What a stupid thing to say..

I gave my opinion that escape rooms are better because that's how I feel, they last up to an hour but it's almost up to an hour of constant engagement for yourself and the others. Where crystal maze, it's who ever is in the room is getting the engagement with the puzzle.
But it's also fair to say we were 7 strangers so the connection amongst each other wasn't as strong as a group of friends. But there were still some laughs to be had.

I came away from the experience thinking it was a good evening but the puzzles seemed very out dated, that I doubt I'd go again.

The puzzles were dated because they're taken from a show thought up back in the 80's/90's - what a stupid thing to say..
