Oh no, not this AGAIN! It's NOT a 'mini cruise' - it's two nights bobbing about on a ferry in the North Sea, sponsored by HUKD! (edited)

Clicked to see if the bloke who always puts the same comment on, "It's not a cruise, it's two nights hours bobbing around in the North Sea..." and there he is! How many times have you used this line now?

We've taken out two little ones a few times and all of us had a great time. It is what it is – if you can afford 14 nights in the Caribbean, good for you!

I did this one years ago, awful, people puking all over the place due to the choppy seas. Not for me, I'm out.

My mum took my daughter and they had same experience. Very choppy waters and people booking everywhere!

Why do people never mention the 1hr 20 min coach trip each way from the port to Amsterdam/Amsterdam to port.
Safe to say, once and never again.

I’m not the one coming on and giving false information on post. For reference the Netherlands has more than one port. You wouldn’t need to book it to see that it lands in Rotterdam it says on the ferry landing times and Europort itself is in Rotterdam well 20-25 minutes away.

so know one mentioned the 1hr 20min bus transfer as it’s not on this deal..

as for what my wife wears to myself being clever it has no relevance. She leaves all the trips to myself, but still knows where she’s going although I book it.

Done plenty of these, always a Good laugh, it’s more about the booze on the cruise then the 4 hrs in Amsterdam, parking at the port isn’t free so check into that too
    bigbargainberni's avatar
The cost of the food on board is ridiculous too. They make their money that way. They also say you are not allowed to take your own and do spot checks on your luggage.

Only 5 hours in Amsterdam, but enough for a walk around canals. I think half of the experience is cruise itself, so for that price for two people with cabin it's an amazing deal! Will try this out! (edited)
    Nawaaz's avatar
I recommend it, the cruise is great. The fact that the cheaper cruise isn’t on weekends is even better as it should hopefully mean fewer stag/hen parties!

Can't believe people are moaning about a 2 night break for £37pp!!

Go in October and treat the crossing as part of the experience, the North Sea can be a cruel place to be in December!

If you only have five hours in Amsterdam I beg you to spend two in the Van Gogh museum.
  9. cambb's avatar
Did it a few years ago. Straight off the boat then tram to the Zoo with the kids.

"private cabin"?? ... as opposed to what exactly??
    treadingit's avatar
Some overnight ferry trips you can sleep in a large communal room with recliners in
  11. Kornelius's avatar
Having a "cruise" with DFDS in the North sea is the same as flying business class with Ryanair
  12. Unsane's avatar
Not voting either way but if I was going to take the ferry to NL then it would be on Stena from Harwich to Hook of Holland on the 2300h departure (mandatory cabin required and sleep all the way) arriving at 0800h and stay as many days as required.
    Unsane's avatar

    Replying to

I don't work for Stena or keep an eye on their cheapest fares, Dave. But I regularly see offers on their website so worth keeping an eye on if you're interested in the Harwich - Hook of Holland route.

My post was merely to point out that there are alternative and quicker routes, which may be of interest to others.

Both my wife and I prefer to spend more time on land than at sea, if you get my drift (sorry, couldn't resist). (edited)

I did this many years ago, on the P&O Hull ferries. It was like spending two nights in the worst pub in Hull, with a brief interlude in Amsterdam to stop you from going mad.

These deals always have negative comments, I did this about 10 years ago for the same price (admittedly we paid extra for to stay one night in Amsterdam) and my experience was amazing. It’s the first cruise I’ve been on and was really impressed by the ship- the choice at the buffet (we paid for dinner) was amazing, the sea wasn’t too rough and on the way back we even used the cinema (Limitless was showing at the time!). If there is an option to stay the night for extra this would be ideal for me again. Regardless, this is a bargain for a mini cruise, and the fact that it’s the same price as 10 years ago is exceptional, especially considering how much almost everything else has gone up in price since then! I still have very fond memories of this trip.
    Bargainhead's avatar
You can actually get them cheaper, we paid £49 for 2 the other year and that was in apr/may time. We got knowing what it was just 2 nights drinking on the boat basically. But I wouldn’t fancy October to December on the North Sea..

they are good value if you know what to expect from them. But get you point of staying over definitely not long enough in Amsterdam the red light doesn't come alive till after dark.

But it only cost £115/130 return to fly from local airport, much better doing that and having extra time there.. (edited)

It is about two nights on the ship and not so much about Amsterdam🚢

I might be reading the guidance wrong, but unless you have had the COVID vaccine, you aren't allowed into Holland? I'm not getting political as I've not had it for medical reasons, but it looks like I currently can't go to Amsterdam 🫤
  18. roscoredbull's avatar
Not worth if for 5 hours in Amsterdam
    Kornelius's avatar
Enough time to grab some souvenirs from the coffee shop!
  19. spragclutch's avatar
These trips are quite good fun. Yes, the weather can be bad but they are big boats designed to deal with the North Sea. Breakfasts and other meals will add a fair chunk to the price and you might not like being cooped up in a cabin below the waterline (although that's the best place to be in a chop). A few hours in Amsterdam will be enough and you'll be glad to get back to your cheap digs. Enjoy!

I went as a family group of 15 on this cruise about 8 yrs ago.. the bit in Amsterdam itself was good. Howevery the ferry was terrible, staff were rude and was not much variety of food etc, and prices were over the roof.

If it's DFDS at least the sofas will be comfy and at any rate they will have the newer sofas installed by Christmas guaranteed...

Hello, would someone be able to advise if this would be suitable for teenagers as we don’t want them to be exposed to the red light districts or the drugs cafes.

    Thanks.
    Bargainhead's avatar
Well don’t take them to the red light district or a drug cafe. Going on this doesn’t mean you have to do those things. The red light district is very small only a couple of streets now. Compared to size of Amsterdam it also doesn’t come alive till after dark really..

basically this gets you there the same as flying, once your there it’s up to the person what they do. As a teenager the red light and drugs were the best part of Amsterdam..

Did this many years ago. Was like spending 2 nights in a floating Wetherspoons with the sort of people who consider a visit to Greggs fine dining. If you're bored of shotgunning Diamond White on your local park bench then this is the trip for you.

Does this include October half term...can't see any dates?

Says 7 days a week till 31st of December. You just need to pay £25/night for a cabin if you want to go Thursday-Saturday

Have done this a few times. For tha same price you pay for a hotel stay its a nice little trip... Just be careful not to miss the bus back to the ferry and get stuck in Amsterdam like I did! Ha

I went on the dfds cruise to Norway few years back, you were only allowed to spend one hour in Norway so kind of scared to go anywhere except one of the local but expensive shops. The boat was nice but at that time there wasn’t much to do, they had a kids soft play and some kind of performance win the bar which we missed. I would do it again if it ever came up at the price it did back then which was a huge deal, for less than £10 per person can’t ever see that happening again, but it is a nice little break, my husband felt a bit claustrophobic not being able to get off the boat though

    "...private cabin with bunk beds"
  35. oldsystem's avatar
    Maybe different on weekend trips.
Mainly couples, pensioners and lorry drivers when I've used it midweek.
  36. absolutelyfurious's avatar
Is it possible to do ferry over, 1 night in a hotel, then ferry back? That would be a more appealing deal if they are flexible about that.
    JonC__T's avatar
Usually a lot pricier this deal is for a mini trip and sometimes it’s better to book one of these deals for both ships and forego one trip each way
There’s Princess and King they both alternate on different days
  37. kevshek's avatar
Yes, it's only a short visit to Amsterdam but the cruise is part of the experience. Done this a few years ago, not eating space cake this time! 🤮 But have booked it in time for the Xmas market this time round The sex museum is worth a visit, as is the red light district purely for window shopping. It's certainly an eye opener! For the money, you can't beat the experience.
    Bargainhead's avatar
Sex museum is dull, red light district is worth a visit maybe once or twice but not on these trips as it doesn’t come alive till after dark, then it’s a different world.

But I agree the boat is part of the experience, well is the trip really. Cheap hotel for 2 night drinking with your mates. If people want to experience Amsterdam go for a few nights over there..
  38. superbob2000's avatar
What happens to your bags, do you keep the cabin for the duration or do you have to check out and check back in later?
  39. sw19church's avatar
