In the website description, these apparently cost 1 pence per night to run. Yeah right……

I mentioned in the main post that they’re around 4p per night to run now

I'm guessing the answer is no but can you use these on a memory foam topper? I have a thick 8cm topper on top of my mattress, and I'm worried it might be a fire risk. I've never had an electric blanket before.

I’ve ordered one to use with my mattress which has an inbuilt memory foam topper. Nothing from the product description implies you can’t and looking online it says it’s perfectly safe to do so electric-blankets.co.uk/blo…ess hope that helps
  3. Ali2021's avatar
These are called electric blankets but aren’t used on top of you like a normal blanket would be, is that correct?

How do you use them exactly?
    UKBFG's avatar
They attach to the bed under your top sheet and warm the bed/you from there.

So 90w x 8 hours is 0.72Kwh. Standing charge of £0.52 per Kwh from Oct. 0.72x0.52 = £0.374 or 37.4p per night. Can anyone explain how it could be 4p per night? (edited)

Does anyone know if these are strings you have to tie round the mattress or elasticated straps?
    UKBFG's avatar
Definitely elasticated straps on mine ordered recently from this post.

Thank you for posting OP, I wavered and missed out. As this thread popped up again in my alerts, this time I ordered. Never used one of these before, but keep on waking up cold so look forward 2 trying it.
Is it safe to use one of these with a Amazon smart plug?
    Thanks in advance

Great price for online and definetly the cheapest. I looked for days for these.

Only place I found cheaper for the King was instore at Wilko Headingley (leeds).
They are £27.50 for the King and £23.50 for the double, I couldn't see any singles.
They might be the same price instore at other Wilko's. (edited)

I got the double from next for £25 and the king size one for £30 couple of weeks back but all sizes have gone up in price now 😔

I managed to get 2 single ones of these in march for £5.50 each from tesco. My daughters love using them when the weathers cold. I normally put them on for about half hours before they get in bed and then turn them off when they're asleep

good deal.. was about to get from amazon but thought I'd check HUKD first. This'll keep the wife and kids warm and stop them moaning about me being the temperature police for a bit.

All sizes were available at the time of posting. Worth checking back though, I needed a single for my son and that was OOS but restocked within 2 days

Assuming 33.9p per kw and the blanket pulls 70w and 8hrs of use at full power, 19p all night
  23. devs's avatar
Would you get away with a king on a super king bed? Thanks
    benjijmason's avatar
Sure. Would be just a little short on the sides that's all. Aka won't go right to the edge.

All OOS now except double (edited)

With these could you put a double on a king-size or does it need to be "fitted" on the right size mattress?
    ChelseaRae's avatar
    Author
I assume it would be okay, since the dimensions of the blanket are already smaller than the mattress itself. King is back in stock now though
  30. LoveHearts's avatar
I found all the sizes in store at asda living lakeside for the same price as online.
  31. jameshothothot's avatar
ah then out of stock when added to basket! ha i'lll keep trying!

Can people give personal thoughts on pros and cons on underblankets, overblankets, heated throws?

i have a memory foam mattress and an overthrow might be good for when downstairs.

LIDL Usually does these at winter, past 3 years in a row, single was around £14, double was £17 and king was £22 I believe. (Barely remember) (edited)
  34. Homebaked's avatar
I'm about to return the single I ordered. Compared to an old Morphy Richards one I have, this is very small, thin & looks poor quality. I thought they'd sent me a cot-bed blanket by mistake, but nope.
    Old one is 90 x 191cm, this is 72 x 135cm.
    jameshothothot's avatar
Have you tried it though? I haven't opened my double yet but not sure it needs to cover the whole surface so long as it makes the bed warm. Does it need to be edge to edge?
  35. k.h383883's avatar
Can we get this in store at Asda
    jameshothothot's avatar
there is a store locator option but all near me OOS. But I collected from a store.

How much are these roughly to run. Trying to read earlier thread but finding it difficult
    CatsWithThumbs's avatar
The double is 80w / 40w / 20w I think on level 3/2/1. So if you have it on level 3 for an hour at 34p per kwh it'll cost you 2.72p if my maths hasn't let me down (which it might)

Calculation for 1 hour is kilowatts (80w being 0.08kw) x pence per kwh (34p average price cap rate I belive)
