You can clamp on to some materials if needed, like for those annoying screws that go through a door handle
Is is soft like wood or plasterboard? Make a small hole with a bradawl and your drill will create a hole exactly where you want it.
Is it hard like brick or concrete? Use a hammer and nail to make a small indentation on the surface, now your drill bit will sit in the indentation and you have a hole exactly where you want it.
Just about the only thing this gadget is useful for is if you need to drill on the corner, but that is unlikely for most people. If the methods above don't work for you, then you either need to learn how to use a drill properly (yes, like everything there are right ways and wrong ways to do it) or pay a expereinced person to do the job for you.
Hold on, who drills holes into the corners of wood and into pipes!!
