Sent this back, any wind at all or below 5c and you feel cold under the arms and down the sides of your body. Just seemed pointles but some one may have a specific use for such a design.

Winter hiking, you appreciate the breathability when moving a lot.

    How warm is this jacket?

It is warm by shelling a person that's inside from external elements and providing a barier that prevents loss of heat generated by person's own body.

Got this last week same price, sent back already. Nice but too expensive for what you get imo.

How does this compare to the Rab Cirrus jackets?? (edited)

Rab Cirrus most likely has less insulation, Rab has synthetic PrimaLoft Silver vs Berghaus 600 FP down

Unless you prefer synthetic for easier maintenance and better waterproofing. Quality wise, I feel Rab always has a higher quality standard than Berghaus

I have this jacket, normally L and XL is tight, so go a size up.

Decent jacket, comfortable. Not sure about the sides where there is no down. The montane axis alpha gtx is currently on at £130. More expensive but worth the extra.

I have a similar rab jacket, bit of wind and you aint warm no more! But thats why you have a shell if hiking, it's overkill for wearing down the pub.

I was gifted this not long ago, not worth the money if you want to keep warm IMO. Buy it for the label, but not the warmth. I still felt cold, and as such, don't use it. Perhaps in april/may it would be okay, but not right now.

I own this jacket, paid full price and I'm very happy with it. People mentioning the cold getting in your sides, they are correct to a point. I think it is personal preference as I like the cool air as I think it would be too warm when walking/hiking. If you intend to wear this in zub zero conditions and stay stationary then this isnt the coat for you.

Also don't be afraid to wash this coat, so many people scared as it's a feathered jacket. Bang it in the washing machine then put it in the tumble dryer with a tennis ball and it comes out like new. (edited)

    Why the tennis ball?

Terrible jacket, washed and tumble dried. Lost shape and filling very thin. Not a patch on my older Mammut jacket. Would not buy again, quality is very poor. (edited)

Soak the coat and put in the tumble dryer with a tennis ball. I have do e this several times and always comes out like new. The tennis ball helps to fluff up the feathers

Get a Decathlon one for less money, higher down loft so lighter etc.

I've had this jacket 3 years now and still looks brand new. I'm always complaining about how cold it is. But if I'm wearing a t-shirt, and jumper underneath it keeps me perfectly warm throughout winter. (edited)

The one I bought smells ..... as soon as I'm outside and air gets to it the coat it smells like wet dog. Then continues to smell until its back to temperature. Sending back

Sounds like something wrong with yours - mine never smelled like anything. Might be worth trying to order another one.

Love this jacket, keeps me warm in the icy UK weather, but as always base layers help so I'd recommend going a size up unless you're wearing it for fashion (don't expect miracles if you're wearing a t-shirt).

Probably a best time to buy a winter jacket as most of them are on sale but which brand jacket people would recommend that would definitely keep me warm in like - 10 outside and also that would be waterproof? Oh and I can't be to short that'll barely cover my kidneys thanks everyone

Check out Colombia omni heat down jackets as an alternative. I have one and very warm. Only downside is outer material very thin. Not sure if this is the case with other down jackets.

Most down jackets are like that. That's the way they are supposed to be to keep them packable and light weight. Think a lot of people buy these type of jackets without really knowing anything about them, or how to use them properly

I like the bit where it says it keeps you 20% warmer than you’d be without it. So if I’d be freezing without it, I’d only be chilly with it? Sounds a bit useless.
