I got a simple tracker from either ebay or Amazon. Cost a few £.
About 3cm long, 1 deep and 1.5 wide. Takes a normal sim and charges with a usb cable, and can be easily hidden behind a panel or inside an air vent

Looks interesting. This is a rebranded TK109 tracker tk-star.com/pro…tml which uses the tkstar app to track play.google.com/sto…=US If you don't like the app there are other free services that should work.

1p mobile have a dedicated page for it 1pmobile.com/str…ize so it may avoid the £2.50 min charge. Alternatively if you buy an old activated O2 1-2-3 sim that wil work, costs about £5 a year for 10k miles.
Setup should be easy if you follow the instructions carefully. Many of these devices sold rely on a subscription for the back end services, but this is free. All in all, pretty good value I'd say

Always reading about people having their cars nicked. I have a similar Salind with cheap contract. 1 charge lasts about 3 months. It is chunky but well hidden. They will tell you exactly where your car is whilst on the move and parked. Amazingly accurate.
I saw recently recently a whole garage of high value cars was nicked. No trackers. Unbelievable.

Looks like a rebranded one of these ... halfords.com/mot…tml ... I've got the Halfords one and it's pretty good. Got a cheap PAYG sim in it.

If you're going to put a tracker in your car then you might as well do it right,

THIS has real GPS tracking, remote vehicle disable, geofencing, speed alerts, listening capabilities and other functions, the only downside is it need somebody who knows what they're doing to install it.

is this one actually GPS based or is it using cell tower to guesstimate your position? Had one very similar to this and it was usually very innacurate.

I now use an old phone stashe away with gps tracking software in my van

That’s not a bad shout actually, everyone has an old phone somewhere they could use + could be used as a backup/emergency too.

Would this work to track pallets of goods in transit if not what is recommended for tracking shipment pallets
    potnoodle's avatar
    potnoodle
should do unless the pallets are transported in a metal container lorry then signal might get blocked till the door opens

Was just going to ask if anyone knew how where the location data is stored, but on the official Streetwize website it says it uses SMS only - it doesn't regularly send back location data to a central server when powered up.

It gives you it's position when you text it, what is there to store? If you want live positioning it uses data but only 2G (GPRS) I believe.
