Whyte Portabello, got via cycle to work and on sale in Evans too last Month, bit of a different mix with 650b 47mm tyres , great wee hybrid. Converted to tubeless and added mudgaurds from Whyte bikes direct

Allot of bike for the money, some decent components

House of Frazer and Sports Direct are the same company as Evans and I think students get additional 10% off at Sports direct.
Evans will build it though within the price.

Shame Evans is another Ashley company these days.

To be fair to Evans; I had absolutely appalling service from them before Ashley bought them, so it's not JUST Mike Ashley owning them that's the problem.

Whyte Victoria is a great all round bike, absolutely love mine. Commutes, long solo rides and loads of grip.

What mudguards are those? I got the portobello and am looking for a pair. The only thing I don't like about it is the chain can slap about something fierce at times.

People's thoughts on the spec at rrp? Is this definitely a proper deal?

The Shoreditch has 10 speed Deore, this is decent. More MTB than road bike style hybrid, these are MTB components. For the money it's very good. Entry level hydraulic brakes. If I was looking would buy this at that price.

If you are considering buying one it may be worth contacting your local store as they have some in stock and it saves to delivery charge.

Thanks OP. Shoreditch XL ordered. I could not get free delivery though but says free delivery in the advert. Did anyone else manage to get free delivery? But I did get 3.15% on TCB.

Free delivery is available for me on the Victoria but I'm tempted for store pick up.
Not now, checked again and it's £19.99. (edited)

Those morons at Rich Energy also nicked their logo, so any kind of support for this company is great in my books.

I have had a few over the years, they make great bikes and their customer service has been excellent when I had an issue whereby cracks had appeared around some spokes on a wheel.

I'm a little tempted by the Ridgeway bike as it has front 63mm Travel forks
between my work and home I have lots of hills and ruff terain and that will be primary use.

I have a Ridgeway, excellent bike.....you can lock out the forks too so you don't lose any effort on the tarmac but easy to unlock on the bumps!

Bit of a bike newbie here - currently on a GT transeo 2.0 (so about 15 years old).

Could someone just briefly walk me through the range here? They all seem to be similarly priced, just kind of working out what the differences are! Looking to stay on a hybrid bike for the most part. Thanks all.

Hi, I'm not an expert but a few things would help answer your query.

Are you looking for a men or ladies bike?

    What's your height?

With or without suspension? If hybrid without would pretty be preferable.

The differences will be the quality of the components, material of forks etc.

how does any of these bikes compare to a ribble al hybrid communter?

ive got one of these and its great but seems abit slow like I keep running out of gears

its 1x11 sram apex 32t chain or somthing (edited)
    skdotcom's avatar
    skdotcom
42t i guess. A 1x will run out of steam downhill, but on a flat you'd need to be pushing something like 30mph to be spinning out.

Tyre choice makes a lot of difference if you find it slow. The stock tyres on my Ribble CGR were not great.

Pimlico Compact 2023 Hybrid Bike looks like the best deal to me. Sizing for Whyte bikes seems very confusing. They don't do small as a size for men's bikes and then their compact range sizes are smaller than the standard sizes.

    Nice bikes.
    Good prices.
Horrible retailer. Do NOT take it back to get it serviced - find a local bike shop/mechanic or learn to do it yourself.

Saw your comment about the specs - just curious on this and what make these so good?

Any preference out of the selection for a hybrid that will probably have mudguards/panniers too? Thanks

Anyone know what the Whyte Victoria is like? It says it’s designed for smaller riders.

A large seems to be smaller than a medium Shoreditch unless I’m reading it wrong. I’m 6’ and was wondering if I’d get away with that or if it would be worse than buying a Medium sized Shoreditch.
