This is click and collect only at Screwfix, it's still available at quite a few places.

It is 500w which currently costs 17p an hour to run.

I was looking for the lowest power oil filled heater to warm a small room as cheaply as possible. Once it warms up it's great and much cheaper to run than most of the more powerful radiators.

You can also use it with a timer switch so it's not on constantly but switches on and off throughout the day.

I hope this helps someone out.

I have this heater in a small bedroom and have it running overnight its very good basically takes the chill out of the room and keeps it warm its super low power seems to use between 180-200 watts per hour on max settings as its automatically switching on and off.

I have a energy monitoring plug on it and here are the results between 12am and 5am (5 hours usage) used 0.946 kWh

I pay around 24p a kWh, 5 hours running this heater costs me around 24p per 5 hours which I am very happy with.

Update: Yes it has a power dial on top you can set so it's not just on or off.

Perfect for me to WFH when I just want to heat one room.

Big thanks to @CyptoHippy for testing the energy usage, it's even cheaper than expected. (edited)

Yes its definitely super energy efficient using less than 200 Watts on maximum setting and will use even less when thermostat is lowered. Its keeping a small bedroom at 20-21c overnight I am very happy with it. I have noticed Screwfix no longer have stock of them

Only 500W but maybe good for under a desk in a smallish room if you WFH. Better than heating the whole house.

Exactly what I use it for - will keep a box / small room relatively warm without having the whole central heating on. If you room is already cold it does take a while to get it heated up, its small in size, so slow to fight off the chill, but okay for keeping a (small) room topped up.

Bear in mind that electricity is around 3x the cost per therm than gas, so this only works if you're heating a very small part of the house with electricity. Can be a good plan but think it through.

Gas central heating involves generating hot water & pumping it to radiators, in the process some of the heat leaks out of the house before getting to the radiators, because most pipes are close to the exterior walls of the house.

This needs to be factored in & not just the per kwh cost. In terms of the actual cost of heating it's not actually true gas is 3 times cheaper, because a gas boiler system is relatively inefficient way of heating a house.

Low power means it will take longer to heat up the space. Same energy will be used to get the room to temperature.

500 watt might be enough to heat your hamsters living room

I'm not a scientist. Would a heater with a bigger surface area and three heat settings, run on the lowest setting, generate more heat for your £. I don't know whether, for instance, a heater with a maximum output of 1500w but with three settings, runs at 500w/1000w/15000w.

I'd be interested if there are any mathematicians out there.

Electric heaters are as good as 1:1 efficiency. That means if its on the 500w setting, it'll output 500w of heat.

As a result there is not really the concept of more efficient than another when it comes to plug in heating.

Wouldn't you be better using the tumble dryer if you have one?

The cost of my Tumblr dryer is currently 30p including wash and 90-120mins tumble drying.

Just don't want you to be worse off with more hassle trying to dry stuff with this

Thanks for sharing, but it's not as great an idea as it it may appear due to the reasons listed elsewhere in this thread.

    A 1500w oil radiator with 3 power settings I, II, III (different to the thermostat);
    Setting I = 500W
    Setting II = 1000W
    Setting III = 1500w

No need for this. Just use a normal one on the lowest power level if you think it makes a difference

Out of stock in various areas I've just searched on. Any suggestions where it's still available?

Hi just to let t you know I have a 2000w one and it does my small bedroom, it just does it right, It s 4x the one above & I can't imagaine a 500w one getting up to temp quick enough to heat a room, so if anyone wants to heat a small room I'd go for a 2000w one. but that is my 2 cents.
