Great cars that could have their suspension adjusted using an air line.
I remember taking a corner too enthusiastically once, and getting it up on two wheels.
Also didn't realise I had a damp problem until I lost a biro underneath the seat. When reaching under to rescue it, my hand came out black. Thinking the pen had exploded, I looked under, to find I was growing 3 inch mushrooms

My first car was a 1972 Austin 1300. Had nothing but trouble with the rear suspension. More often than not I had to use a block of wood instead. Still, I loved that car. 2nd car was a mark 1 Escort Estate. Happy days.

A cheap alternator for anyone wanting to experiment with building a wind turbine or a water wheel (with appropriate gearing). (edited)
    CynicalNurse's avatar
If you wanted to build either you'd be better off getting a 24V alternator scrap for a fraction of the price unless you're planning on generating less than 3000W peak.

    Niche!

    My immediate thought also

How many users on here won’t even know what an allegro is without resorting to google? 😬👴🏻

    That's a pretty good price. I'm tempted...
How much extra would it be to buy an allegro without an alternator to go with my purchase?

For those wondering... there are 263 Allegros registered in the UK - howmanyleft.co.uk/?pa…gro

So one Allegro for every 228,000 people roughly (assuming 60m population of UK)

With 2.5 million HUKD users (approximately 4% of the UK population - that's being generous as many of these will be ghost accounts...) we might be looking at 10 registered users of HUKD that might own an Allegro. However, I doubt more than 1 or 2 of these are in the market for an alternator at this particular moment. Therefore, there are potentially one or two users who could find this beneficial. I would therefore describe this as VERY niche.

Voted hot though as great price. Just need to find the other 4,754 parts to build a classic at home now... (edited)

I have 2 allegros and both have alternator problems, so this is not niche and very a helpful post, plus I may buy 3 so I have a spare!!!

0 to 60 by Tuesday, with plenty of flat surface on the back for people to get a grip on when bump starting

My mate managed to get an Allegro 1750, gifted to him by his Nan who could no longer drive, to 100mph (the speedo said that....but I suspect it was about 95mph) once with me in the passenger seat in the mid 90's...

But it was in Lincolnshire on a road that was perfectly flat and straight for 15km....it only reached top speed right towards the end of the run...

It was absolutely terrifying.....felt like the entire car would just disassemble around us like a cartoon...

Wild goose chase in reverse trying to find one of these cars still running to use a new alternator!

My parents had two Allegro's, one in 1975 and the other around 1980. The first one drove from the Motorail terminal in Nice to Southern Italy, and the second got sold on when it embarrassed itself in the Lake District by not being able to get up a shallow climb as the fuel pumps were obviously too inadequate for such a simple drive.

My original 1972 alternator is still going strong and never misses a beat. Shame the car itself was scrapped in 1973. (edited)
  27. TacticalTimbo's avatar
No need to rush, 'more than 10 available'...that's gotta be more than one for every Allegro still going.
    CynicalNurse's avatar
Any Allegros still going will be needing mechanical attention on their next journey anyway.
  28. bob-mk2's avatar
Fit this to your Allegro and it will increase the resale value to £49

Many years back company rep friend had a maxi. He rolled it and spent a month in hospital I remember him saying at least I've got rid of that poxy maxi.

Horror of horror when he came out of hospital there it was repaired.

How on earth can I get an alternator for an Austin Allegro yet I can't get a steering pump for my 10yr old Seat!
  31. Proveright's avatar
    Thanks OP.
The alternator could also be used for a DIY wind turbine project.

Austin Maxi was a brilliant roomy hatch back. Sadly not many classics left on the road.
Who would have thought that Ford Escorts prices would go through the roof?

Most of the Cars in OPs post suffered from tin worm! (edited)
    VeganPolice's avatar
The Maxi was very handy if you needed an extra double bed in a hurry.
