Thanks, hadn't heard of this 60's series, and someone kindly posted it up to youtube.
Just rewatched the 1st ep of the World at war this week, about the "New Germany", and it's uncanny how Putin has used the exact same tactics that Hitler used at the time.

I believe this is in the correct 4:3 ratio, rather than the cropped 16:9 ratio of the DVD version, which is a big plus!

Are you featured on the series, i have it (DVD) and sure i watched a behind the scenes extra about the music for it, and how it just had to be right for the tone of the show.

A very good series, it should be a compulsory watch for new generations.

I've not seen it on blu ray, but such an amazing and haunting series. I know some of the comments above are in jest, but really not a joking matter, and if you'd watched the series I doubt the comments would have been made. Quite disturbing in many places

I have the original DVD set with no cropping, one of the best documentary series ever made. Been tempted by a comparative bluray version.

My kid was made to watch it in his year 9/10 history classes quite recently.

Bought him the DVDs and we just watched it together recently. It's quite an experience.

Without doubt the best WW2 documentary series ever produced. The raw footage, the narration, the soundtrack and especially the first hand accounts from those that were there, makes this unique. I watched it back in the 70s on TV and still watch it on my Daily Mail DVD freebies to this day!

Is it worth buying the blu ray version over the standard DVD version which seems to be available on eBay for less than a tenner? Thanks in advance.

For sure it is. They've gone back to the original source footage and remastered it for the blu-ray, so the clarity of some of the footage is stunning given its age. For the DVD version they also made the strange decision to crop the 4:3 footage to 16:9, meaning anything that happens at the top or bottom of the screen is cut-off, and it's really noticeable in places. Even if you're not fussed about the visual fidelity, I'd still recommend the blu-ray on the basis of its aspect ratio alone. (edited)

I’ve just been looking on eBay for this blu ray which can be found cheaper although I’ve seen some sets classed as the ultimate restored version!? How do these 2 editions compare? Thanks in advance.

"Please allow up to 28 days" for delivery. Is it 1989 again?
