sorted byThe Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 series only has a Thunderbolt port on the configs with RTX 4080 or RTX 4090. The cheaper Legion Pro 7i with RTX 4070 models also do not have Thunderbolt. See details on the Lenovo website below.

My card was just about to expire and I logged in and it offered me another three years so of course I bought it
Now to think about this laptop I already have a really good Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 but this is so tempting there are some amazing deals on the Education site. I'm looking at them right now... (edited)
Anyone able to order on my behalf?
Basically 20% more of battery and a slight burst of more processor's juice for a 12.10% price increase but then the hassle of selling ram and ssd and replacing them with 32gb and 1tb, how much more would I end spending? Does anyone know if you can fit a 99.9Wh battery in the Pro 5i version? The battery is the thing that bothers me the most..

It really seems like they’ve ditched the 5i pro and it’s just a 5 with next gen hardware, which is nice but personally I like the creature comforts of the old 7 and 5i pro variants, definitely seemed more premium and on par with the likes of ROG and Alienware, I’m seriously worried about where else the cost saving has taken place here.
As for your issues all chassis fears on my part aside there are a lot of ways you could get more battery life out of the machine, undervolting and brightness tweaks help, and hopefully windows will some day figure out it’s rest mode nonsense with 11. In gaming you’d need to be plugged in anyway or get a massive performance hit, if you don’t want to carry the brick around these charge up to 135/145 via usbC iirc plus if you’re plugged in mostly set the battery charge level to 70 or 80% to keep it healthy longer. The ram cost is stupid for ddr5 right now but it will come down eventually and 16gb is still plenty for now for most people and definitely for normal use and gaming. The SSD prices are coming down almost weekly right now so that’s not something I consider much when there are 2 slots, a 2tb pcie4 drive was on Amazon last week for £175, I paid nearly £250 last year for my ps5 upgrade and I’ve not come close to filling it yet, and if you don’t need those 7gb/s speeds a high capacity pcie3 drive will be half that again.
TLDR: I’d go 7, it’s the more future proof machine, usually better build quality and the extra creature comforts will be nice long term if you keep laptops as long as I do. The SSD is the main upgrade I’d consider but it’s an easy one. I think 16gb of ram is plenty, 7 years with my xps and I’ve never had an issue with 16gb. Plus even the battery can be upgraded yourself, just ordered a 99wh battery for that same xps to replace the original 80 who’s capacity has died off and if you’re fine with usb C charging and don’t mind the price of buying a high watt charger like you say it’s a mute point so just enjoy whichever you go for bud

Hmm now how do I become a student again haha
I guess if they had a good deal on the RTX 4080 then I would go for that, it is a nice jump from the 4070
However I could buy a couple and sell them on for profit😁 (edited)

IF laptop != Framework THEN don't buy.
IF laptop = Framework THEN buy (when available)
If you can't wait for Framework then buy something else if you need it of course
What am i missing?
