I have the older model of this....it's amazing !! Never any need to run it at full capacity....very unique system of sending out heat compared to other oil filled radiators.

In before the "Is it cheaper to run than a fan heater?" brigade.

I do have the 2kw and it's truly amazing, capable to heat a very big room itself.

Hi could it heat a large lounge quite quickly even on the lowest setting?I'm a bit worried about running costs

These will get cheaper for the simple fact running them just cost to much.

Running at the 2.5kw heat output, it will cost 0.85p to run per hour. (edited)

But they have a thermostat, right? So most of the time they won't cost anywhere near that amount to run, except when it's warming the room first thing in the morning.

This will heat exactly as effectively as any other electric heater - it's really basic physics (energy in = energy out).

The question I have if anyone has any of these is how long does it retain heat vs an instant convector?

I'm looking to switch to Economy 7 for other reasons and the rate means I'm interested in having this run at full blast in the wee hours, but it's only practical if it's *slow* to release heat. Are we talking a few minutes to heat and a few minutes to cool or hours?

I have this model and I wouldn't recommend it in your use case. It warms up in a few minutes, and it really throws the heat out very well. As a result, it doesn't store the heat. It probably takes more than a few minutes to cool, but less than an hour.

You most likely have, but I'd really do some digging into Eco 7. When I looked recently, the cheaper, nighttime rates I was being offered were more than the standard variable tariff most of us find ourselves on now. Might be better for your part of the country.
You really need a proper storage heater to make the most of Eco 7, and those bad boys are expensive. Good luck.

would it still heat up quickly if you had it only set to 600w?Mind you I don't know if that would be effective at that setting I'm wanting to keep my mum warm in a large lounge as she's bed bound downstairs and I'm wondering if their is a cheaper alternative to the central heating

Close all doors in the one room, most home heat is wasted, turning off central heating radiators saves nothing....

No carbon monoxide risk with oil filled rads (edited)
