Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet's exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence, only those who can conquer their own fear will survive.
Critics Consensus
Dune occasionally struggles with its unwieldy source material, but those issues are largely overshadowed by the scope and ambition of this visually thrilling adaptation. Read critic reviews
Audience Says
Denis Villeneuve's Dune looks and sounds amazing -- and once the (admittedly slow-building) story gets you hooked, you'll be on the edge of your seat for the sequel. Read audience reviews

sorted byIt just seems like the sort of film that plods along with no urgency, gives the viewer very little to be excited about, whilst the cast stand around looking cool and po-faced, yet it expects you to be wowed by the worldbuilding and visuals. I can just see myself being bored for 2 and a half hours.
Is my gut instinct anywhere close? (edited)
The film was deliberately set up to set the scene for the next two films. If you went in expecting a purely action oriented film, or something akin to a Marvel movie, then yeah, you'll have a bad time.
Rather they should show it down and delve into characters over several episodes or even seasons.
Good deal if you like it. Helpful comments too! :-)
For those that say this movie is boring, I can appreciate what they are saying. This is a passion project from a childhood fan of the book.
At the end of the day, the Dune books themselves are not a very "exciting" read, especially when you start. The first one especially is very slow and laborious with so much back story to explore that the book had its own Glossary at the end which I had to refer to multiple times. However, if you stick with it, there is such a rich story with so much potential.
Denis Villeneuve has made the movie that I had dreamed about since reading the book, and I really hope he continues doing the same with the other books after Part 2 is done.
After I read the first Dune book about 10 or so years ago, I was really excited to watch the 1984 version. It was very well done, but just not what I had imagined.
The 1984 version has its charm but is an entirely different movie with many changes from the book. David Lynch deviated too far from the source material IMHO. The original release also suffered from bad editing and had lots of scenes cut out that would have added to the story.
Thanks for sharing this deal OP. Heat added.
