Do you find it gripping? Did you ever read the books? I think it's a well-made show but the mystery element is obviously kind of spoiled for me because I know what's going on from the books. It would be interesting to have some perspective from someone new to the series.

I'd heard about it, but it's on Apple TV and no way I'm signing up for yet another streaming service which is a shame

No don't it's boring as hell... Trust your own instincts always... That From also useless and v annoying just talk talk talk poor story poor acting poor monologues and contradictory..

There are three books; the second (Shift) is a prequel, the third (Dust) a sequel.

In episodes 1-2 of the tv series the writers followed the first book, “Wool”, fairly closely. However, after episode 2 the tv show story seemed to lose direction. The plot meanders tangentially from the books narrative to become a quite dull dystopian police procedural. Oddly, the tv show script writers even created entire characters, institutions, conspiracy theories & diseases which do not occur in the novel (& don't really serve the story too much). The novel is much pacier & more tightly plotted than the tv show, with much more forward momentum & believable (mostly) & relatable characters. In the book there is no “Judicial”, “Syndrome”, “flame keepers”, no cameras behind mirrors, no hard drive macguffin & the Sims character is barely mentioned; if only the same could be said for the tv show & we would have been spared Common’s truly woeful performance!

I’m hoping that in the final episode the tv show story will rejoin the book’s narrative; the episode is called “Outside” after all… (edited)

Silo is scoring 75/100 after 20 critic reviews and at 68/100 with 60 user reviews so it's clearly not dross, unless you're the expert we should all listen to.
