Cooking Guidelines

Hob - From Ambient:

For the perfect rice
  • (1) To make perfect rice start with a ratio of 1 cup rinsed rice 4 cups of water.
  • (2) Bring the water to the boil and add the rice.
  • (3) Stir and bring back to the boil, keeping uncovered. Reduce to a rolling simmer for approx. 8-10 minutes or until rice is tender.
  • (4) Drain water, cover & leave to stand for 3 minutes.
  • (5) Lightly fork through the grains and serve.

Cooking appliances vary and these instructions are given as a guide. Please ensure that the rice is piping hot throughout before serving. Do not reheat.

Storage
Store in a cool dry place. Once opened, keep tightly closed and consume within the Best Before End date. For Best Before End date: See bottom of pack.

    Is this 'proper' basmati ie has more going for it than exceptionally long grain length?

    Basmati used to have a unique fragrance and flavour but all these 1121 and similar modern strains have ruined it by delivering long grains that taste and smell only slightly like basmati should.

    I can't remember where I read it—perhaps Guardian's food section—that after analysing several brands, Tilda were the only ones that had 'proper' basmati rice. Doubt many would care too much regarding the difference, though. (edited)

    Bought a few bags of these off Amazon Morrisons last December for just under a tenner each (first shop promo). Easy to cook especially in a rice cooker or over the hub. No chance of that price again in this climate so this is decent - need to make an account on there and make use of a first shop code again soon.

    Marketing gimmick this is. Went to my local to be told that they only get 2-3 packets each morning delivered to store.
    So this is walk in marketing tactics it seems.

    I would agree with this. Last time when Badshah Basmati Rice was on offer few months back, I never managed to find any on the shelf till offer was on. After the offer was gone, surprise the shelf was always stocked. Morrisons has lately been very stingy with stocking products on offer.
