Tbf Waterloo ended the discussion soundly but yeah no clue where you got your absurd notions from... You clearly haven't even used one and yet feel as though you have some basis for spouting off aggressive opinions and being rude about it. That said, countries where rice is eaten nearly every day a rice cooker is considered an essential household appliance. It's a staple in nearly any kitchen. They're more common than microwaves. Every year around 4 million rice cookers are produced in Japan alone... Calling it a gimmick machine and laughing at the word millions as though an exaggeration really displays which argument is coming from a place of ignorance and 'oblivious'-ness. Maybe just try one someday instead of presuming things about something you know nothing about? Rice that's made in a pan can be good or even great, or sometimes it can be a bit tasteless, or a bit stodgy. It can be overdone or underdone. Too much or too little water. Not steamed well or cooked through perfectly or soaked up the right amount of water because of the lid, the timing, the temperature. Even when you cook rice frequently enough that you're confident it's always going to be pretty good, it's rarely going to be perfect. With a rice cooker it just comes out perfect and fluffy every time and tastes fantastic with minimal effort. Edit: have just looked at the product itself and reviews vary dramatically on this one so probably best investing a bit more in a proper one than going for something as cheap as this.

waterloo

Still available for £7.50 free click n collect in the croydon store i checked london only if it's crap its free returns.

It's said every household in japan has a rice cooker some have two not sure about china but guess its alot.

I use one of these and get perfect rice every time. 400g rice and 800ml cold water. Microwave for 10 minutes, then leave for at least 10 minutes once finished.

thfcmad

Im amazed how many people want to help me cook rice! (lol) (lol) Im cooking some tonight...will let you all know how it goes as I can tell this is a thrilling thread keeping everyone on the edge of their seats.

EQL

Add one cup of rice to pan Add cold water to about double the height of rice (to rinse away the starch) Leave for 3-10 mins (or if you don't have time, do two rinses), stir, then drain away Add boiling water significantly above the height of the rice (around 4 cups?), bring to the boil Simmer for 5 mins (rice grains should be floating and mostly cooked), stir a few times whilst simmering Drain rice Put about 1 teaspoon of oil to the pan and heat on low Re-add rice and cook lidless for 2 mins (this reduces the dampness) Rice should be perfectly cooked

RaiKush

1 cup of rice AND soak it with one cup water for about 15min in pot or large enough bowl. Proceed to drain the starchy water using sieve, then continue to wash under running water. Now add your rice into your pot, add about 1¼ cups water and bring to boil. (U can add spice for rice if u want) When water ALMOST gone, turn off hob and cover to simmer for a few min. Just check its cooked through. Works 100% for me.

No, not if being considerate in booking slots very far between. We had a gap of 19 days and planned for another 19 day gap with only prime now to deliver milk and fresh fruit and vedge. Shows lack of planning of some when people feel the right to advise others.

Not the same quality as white pearl at all I'm afraid, these are new rather than aged and lack flavour and taste, oh and they're from somewhere that values cows over human lives...

Picked this up yesterday, wasn't impressed at all...just no real depth of flavour!

BargainHuntBarbie

I see they’ve got a new flavour with the Japanese Katsu Curry. For those who’ve tried this, what’s the verdict on it? I’ve tried all the other flavours and the only one I rate so far is the Malaysian red curry.

A couple of decent flavours but the texture of these rice ones is awful.
