However the SN350 is not a common drive, Its not sold at retail so the only way to get one is to harvest on from something like a Surface tablet. or another Xbox
Is it something MIcrosoft blocked, yes and no, yes it limited to a small subset of drives, but they are not blocked any SN530 will work (512/1tb/2tb) regardless of the original use. Its problaby more limited to stop people using any old cheaper lower performance drive, as you used to see with external USB flash and hard drives.
Wish there was another slot and I would be all over this.
Regarding the price drop yeah it has been reported the 2TB has been dropped to $280 which is approx £220 at current exchange rates so given only £199 at Currys for once not a complete $ -> £ do over.
