Michael Caine stars in this epic story of the battle of Rorke's Drift, on January 22nd 1879, where a small force of British troops found themselves completely outnumbered by Zulu warriors in Natal, South Africa. Having already destroyed a very large British garrison, 4,000 Zulu warriors are now on their way to overcome the handful of men stationed at Rorke's Drift. The two lieutenants in charge of the garrison, Jon Chard (Stanley Baker) and Gonville Bromhead (Michael Caine), are at odds with each other, but manage to rally the men together and put up a courageous fight. Only a few of the men survived, eleven receiving the Victoria Cross.

    Interesting Movie fact ,
The Henri Martini Rifle used by the British Soldiers in Zulu was also the basis for the real harpoon Gun -not a prop (a genuine modified Henri Martini) that Robert Shaw fired at the shark in Jaws. (edited)

The largest number of Victoria Crosses won in a single action was on January 22nd 1879 at Rorke’s Drift during the Zulu War. Following this action, 11 men were awarded the VC.

Great film. Iconic score by John Barry. Great Blu-Ray transfer also.
