Wow, almost worth buying this instead of getting my oven professionally cleaned! Of course that's not good for the environment....

I don't think you can't not use the fan on a fan oven, the fan will come on when you switch on the oven. There's usually no option.

this is a non fan oven, so a bit pointless.

you can get fan ovens for about 120 130 from currys

+1, the fan is always on.

I’ve a low spec Lamona oven and there’s a setting to run the oven without the fan, I thought that was fairly typical tbh

Only 1 Oven shelf which seems a bit stingy in my opinion.

Theres two but one is a grill pan type shelf and the other is the normal wire shelf. I have this oven in my kitchen.

Its ok haven't really used it with the two shelves. If I cooked alot I would spend more on a bigger and better one though. But its fine for chips or roasts etc

Barely ever for me, though when I bake bread and add steam into the oven (with hot water or ice cubes on a cast iron pan etc) I keep the fan off to keep the steam in for longer until I want to release it myself by opening the door.

I stand corrected, I have Neff ovens and assumed the fan is always on but maybe some of the obscure oven programmes don't use the fan.

What's issues could arise if you put and used a second shelf in it

Usually quite different temperatures per shelf, not as even as a fan oven would be. It's the normal 'place in the centre of the oven' in the cooking instructions.

Then again, by the looks of other comments above my understanding of fan vs conventional is a fair bit out of date! I was also under the impression that fan ovens always had the fan on, so I guess there is a use case for a conventional oven.

I just got a oven the day had a cheap one in mind tho ended up getting a Pyrolytic Self-cleaning oven for under under 400 qquid

Was thinking by the time I pay to get a standard one cleaned a couple of times and fact it's likely made of cheaper parts the extra few hundred was was worth it

But heat added for the price.

Non-fan ovens (and I assume it's the same for fan ovens with fan off) are hotter in the top so if they have multiple shelves you can cook at different temps (within reason) at the same time e.g. elements of a roast dinner on different shelves. Not saying that's better than a fan oven, it's just different. My old fan oven has 2 simple dials, one for 'function' and one for 'temp' (plus a few buttons I don't use for timer/clock) with both fan-on and fan-off on the function dial. Also I think selecting grill doesn't run the fan but not 100% sure, I hardly ever use grill.

Yes indeed. Got one few months a go. £130.
It has been great to be honest.
Very basic oven but I don't need all these fancy buttons. We use it probably couple of times in a week. Other time it gets switched off.

Not exactly rave reviews either but still bought one for my BTL property nonetheless!

Without a fan there might be issues if more than one shelf is used. Not having a grill pan is more of an issue for me, the thought of using the same shelf to toast my muffins is not pleasant.

The cheaper fan ovens from Curry's are a bit better value as they cook better, come with more than one shelf etc.

Can confirm I've just recenly had a cheapo Lamona fan oven installed. I can use it as a standard convection oven, but find things cook so much better on the standard fan oven setting (plus it's cheaper to run on the fan setting - lower temperature and lower cooking time as it moves the air evenly)

Im sure your Neff will have the non fan cooking option. Fan cooking is often the default, especially on the more expensive ovens.

My AEG ovens have it for example. The one that was just replaced I actually had to use the standard cooking option for a while as the Fan element had gone (leaking to earth and tripping RCD). Even my AEG combi microwave has non fan cooking option. As for certain scenarios (some baking etc) it’s preferable
