This is not what it says on the tin, it is a thickness planer aka as a thicknesser or a jointer in America, however it is a one trick pony and you can buy a two in one machine for a similar price which is much better value:

The Triton isn't a jointer. Just a planer/thicknesser. That's what it says on the tin. There is always compromise for a planer/jointer, but this one excels on performance for the normal price, let alone this discounted price. If space is a concern and budget too, get a combi.

Planer = make a flat surface (on a planer, in 2 passes this can yield 2 parallel surfaces, or on a jointer in 2 passes it can yield 2 perpendicular faces)
Thicknesser = make a board a uniform thickness
Jointer = make 2 adjacent surfaces perpendicular (given it can first make 1 flat surface)

I've got this and it's a great machine. Only issues are blades are hard to come by and tricky to replace. Rutlands have currently got a great little bench top planer on factory seconds offer (only obsolete packaging) for £129 if anyone's interested

Is that any good for a begginer in DIY looking into some woodworking projects bit more advanced than screwing few planks together to make a planter ? Tempted to buy it but not sure whether I should go for this or something like planer thickneser in one. (edited)

I suspect this is more for precision work and for professionals rather than DIYers.

Bought the Titan the other day, seems fine for the price £179 screwfix.com/p/t…774

Also, get yourself some dust extraction, wood particles go everywhere and depending on type of wood can be very unhealthy for you. (edited)

I've got this one and it's great piece of kit. Some reviews say it's fiddly to change between planing and thicknessing but it's not really, 2 minute job when you are used to it.
With the dust exit cowl underneath (planing) you just push a 100mm tumble drier vent pipe onto it and bend it down into a bin so it collects the wood shavings. With the cowl on top (thicknessing) just stick a hoover pipe into it as far as it will go and it does the job without clogging. Take bag out of hoover and you can plane a hell of a lot without it filling up too quick (Henry size)

This is in a garage or workshop by the way and not your front room, there will be some dust. Ear defenders are a must along with eye protection and dust mask. Use the pads and push stick, I cringe when I see fingers near the blade.

No, they don't. Most advertise around the £200 mark but with a bit of haggling you'll get them around £170.

Great price for this machine, I've not used this particular model but have heard plenty of good things that would tempt me to buy if I needed one.

As mentioned above some thought should be given to collecting the chips this thing generates. Using a normal vacuum cleaner really wouldn't be sufficient as it would likely clog and/or get full too quickly. Also this will be incredibly noisy in use so invest in some decent hearing protection. Had this for a couple of months, and it's been fantastic; bought for about £250 from ffx

My advice is to also get the titan surface planer, and then you have everything you need to produce your own finished wood (from such things like pallets) (edited)

Good job I’ve nowhere to put it or I’d be ANOTHER £225 down. Great spot!

I've watched a few videos on the Titan planer, some do say that it's very noisy and that's kind of putting my off getting one. Can anyone tell me how bad the noise is in comparison to something such as a table saw or a router?

These are out of stock now but they are incredibly noisy. By far the noisiest tool I've used, I find them much louder than a table saw or dust extractor for example. Not only that, I feel the sound it makes is quite a piercing noise which makes it seem even louder. (edited)

Is this the standard screwfix price? As no mention of it being a special offer on their site only it being ‘new.

Seems odd for SF to offer such a good price while not shouting about it.

Is a good price though compared to elsewhere… a fair few others are showing it as oos… maybe end of lin3

…getting tempted… please stop me! (edited)

I’ve got one of these, the finish it gives is excellent, little to no sanding required. Watch out for sniping though, can be overcome by feeding in the next piece before the last piece comes off the bed.

Can be avoided if you have the bed level with a work surface.

I paid a lot more than this and it’s worth every penny.
