Seems well reviewed and better priced than on Toolstation/Screwfix. Slow delivery but I'm not in a rush and could be helpful for someone.

These are OK budget options - not great for anything finesse as too much bearing slop at full extension (as I found out trying to cut long flat mitres in 9 inch skirting). I actually sent my Evo saw back twice as assumed the first was faulty!

I then picked up a 216mm Hitachi for £190 and it was bang on. So...if you are doing anything critical, consider one of the named brands like Bosch, Hitachi (Hikoki), Dewalt or Makita - the design and quality control is just a little better over these chinese designed and made saws.

If you were framing or doing garden jobs, or smaller detail stuff, these are fine though. A great option for the rougher stuff and most DIY applications.

I'm a bit disappointed with mine. It's a pretty solid tool with good build quality but it's flawed in a few ways.

Its very heavy, that's partly because of the build quality as it's made with some very solid metal, but for most it is overkill.
The sliding mechanism requires too much rear space. Other manufacturers have better designs that allow for almost not rear space to slide.
The laser is awful, you need to be in almost darkness to see it.
The dust collection is atrocious, they didn't design the pathway well and it just doesn't go into the extractor.

Cuts are perfectly fine, but on a 255mm blade you only have a 320mm cut which is not impressive.

The soft start and electronic brake work well.

I like your idea of good build quality - I fell off my chair - flawed,/ heavy,/ sliding mechanism probs,/ competition has better designs, /awful laser needs you to be on the night shift,/ dust collection is atrocious,/ pathway design not good, short 320mm cut.
Thank goodness the soft start works well...........You certainly hit the jackpot there.

While this can cut metal with the supplied blade, you shouldn't. Just cutting a few bits of 3mm angle and the sparks melted the lense on the laser line guide.

Try phoning Evolution. They will probably be able to send you a replacement.
My experience with them has been excellent really friendly and helpful.

Was going to get one of these a while back but couldn't find any info regarding whether it can do trench cuts.
Ended up going for one of these instead as it can trench cut (and has been great) -

I should have looked harder as I later found out the Evo can trench cut (though a review says it's not straighforward)
The Evo would still be a better option even if it costs more, they are very well made and usually last forever! (edited)
