Calm and capable, Samus takes on this solo mission...but she is far from alone.

Blast forward to your next objective or take time to stop and scan your surroundings and delve into the creatures and culture of Tallon IV. From the quiet stillness of the snowy Phendrana Drifts to the magma geysers of Magmoor Caverns, this alien planet introduces beautifully harsh landscapes and labyrinths.

I wonder how this compares to Metroid Prime that's in the Wii Trilogy. I've already got that so worth getting this too? Or is it just a basic remaster?
    yemasi4924's avatar
Metroid Prime is one of my favourite games of all time and this was an immediate buy for me. I ended up playing it for 2-3 hours last night and here are some takeaways:

It is a proper remaster in every sense of the word; controls, models, geometry, animation. It's not a remake. It was developed internally at Retro Studios and clearly a lot of love and attention went in to maintaining the original art direction. They have not messed with the music. This isn't the Demon's Souls remake that made some pretty controversial stylistic choices, it is all very tasteful and in keeping with the original intent.

A lot of the graphical features they inexplicably removed from Metroid Trilogy's release have been reinstated and improved (water deformation etc.) . It runs at a pretty great 60fps like the original. There's some fantastic new particle, caustic and volumetric effects that really add the to environments. There are good accessibility options and you can use gyro controls as well as a dual-analog joystick setup that feels perfect, along with the original Gamecube layout. You can also choose to use no narration (US), partial narration (PAL) or full narration (JAP) from any of the regional Gamecube releases. You can even turn off the hint system.

    It is rather excellent.

still think this is overpriced for what it is, great game but should really be the trilogy.

I agree - but I’m a total sucker for Metroid so I’ll pay Nintendo whatever they ask and continue to let them milk me like the dirty cash cow that I am!

Glad I held off playing the Gamecube version, looking forward to this, Dread was amazing and hear this is amazing also!

You held off 20 years? Some strong will!
  6. powerbrick's avatar
Hopefully will work on the deck.
    DisagreeableRunt's avatar
That's the beauty of Switch, you can play it anywhere. On the deck, in the shed, in bed, on the toilet, whilst skydiving.

    Where's Prime 4 ? Come on

Of all the games remastered, this is the one I wanted the most. Using the Wii controls with the Nunchuck never felt right. Pity they didn't add value (Nintendo? Value??) by making this the Trilogy but I'd happily buy the 2nd one if it's ever remastered, but the first one was always the best.
  9. PJW1878's avatar
Is it much different to Metroid Dread guys? My son absolutely adores that game
    TheLastChinaMan's avatar
completely different. Dread is more of the traditional Metroidvania style where as this is a First-Person game. I imagine he'd enjoy it as well. (edited)

for £30, this should have been a trilogy
Just play the gamecube version on PC with twin stick controls and updated HD visuals.
nintendo's greed make apple look generous in comparison
    zeb.mattey's avatar
one of the most critically acclaimed games with 30+ hrs of content for the price of a takeaway is hardly daylight robbery.
  11. BIGPHIL69's avatar
Should be this price for the trilogy we were meant to get
    Seanspeed's avatar
Actually, it should be free. Why not just go full tilt on the entitlement since we're here.
  12. consolegamer's avatar
Definitely waiting for the physical release on this one!

This is the physical release, isn’t it?
  13. HairyFist's avatar
Just bought digital. Didn’t want to wait any longer. I’ve never played it and heard so many good things.

Beat it on the GameCube back in the day. Best GameCube game in my opinion. The soundtrack is amazing.
    stuartc74's avatar
I couldn't beat the last boss. Amazing game.

One of my favourite games ever. Which I never finished due to a glitch, when I was in a ball and went into a save pod, but it would never let me get out. I can't describe the hours spent trying to get out of it.

    Maybe I'll finally beat it!
  16. OllieFTH's avatar
Awesome been waiting for preorders to come for the physical version! Cheaper than digital too.

My switch hasn’t got much love since I got a deck…

    this will change all that.

plenty of cool stuff announced at direct. This is clearly more than a standard remaster
    Moody_Cloud's avatar
The Deck could very easily run the Dolphin emulator and play ANY GameCube game. At higher than 60fps. For free. (edited)
  19. Adil_AhmedbQy's avatar
I'd love to see a remastered Zero Mission and Fusion
    reddragon105's avatar
Yeah, but at least the original versions might appear on NSO now!

Finally! I hope this now crashes the ridiculous price of the Wii version
    EugeneVictorTooms's avatar
I'm watching a couple of these on eBay, ~£90 iirc. Will keep my eyes peeled!

Nice one £29.25 for Gold members, preorder for me thanks!
  22. UKBatman's avatar
Fantastic, pre order is in thanks!
  23. LetDown06's avatar
Have had this on GameCube then on Wii, can only hope Echoes and Corruption get the same treatment before 4
    djbowlesy's avatar
Apparently the devs have confirmed that they are coming
  24. Moody_Cloud's avatar
£30 for one remaster. Only a few years ago this price got you an entire trilogy of games. What a rip off.
    robinkurosaki's avatar
Let's be honest, it was much longer ago then a few years. The advent of a generation (PS4 & XBONE) mostly being an era of HD remasters is likely to blame. It became a norm that we now accept because we ultimately want to play.

Should it of been a trilogy, absolutely. But at least it isn't a full price release.
  25. eddiechum's avatar
I bought the Gamecube package that came with this game so it brings back strong memories for me. Unclear for the moment whether I want to replay this, I think they will eventually release a trilogy pack, at which point I might bite.

Thought £35 was a bit much, £30 still is but at least I can punt this on after. Now give us a remake of F-Zero GX to this standard, Nintendo!
    bra's avatar
I'm not sure my 36 year old eyes could handle f zero gx like my 16year old eyes did back in 2003 🤦‍♂️
  30. bargain.betty's avatar
I really shouldn’t purchase I have back logs of games I’ve not started but oh well can’t decline this offer
    Realhoneyman's avatar
If you have the budget for it then its probably the cheapest it'll be for some time. Have you played the earlier ones already? If not it might be worth doing so though I've heard you can play this without having played the previous two entries.

One of those games we all thought would fail. A 3D Metroid? It'll never work...

Was very happy to be proven wrong.
    reddragon105's avatar
I think Nintendo did the best job of transitioning to the 3D era - Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time and then Metroid Prime all managed to feel like their 2D counterparts while doing new things at the same time.
  32. japanknees's avatar
Top 3 games for me. So needed this. Thank you!
  33. benfresh76's avatar
The Game Collection are still offering £5 of reward points on preorders, taking this down to £24.75 on there...Good deal.
  34. LGB87's avatar
Paid about this for the Trilogy on Wii over a decade ago. No way I’m paying £30 for Prime 1 only when PrimeHack exists..
  35. derpayne's avatar
I gave it a go for 20 mins or so and was super impressed by the work they'd done on it for anyone worried it's not worth the price etc.
It actually looks and runs better than a lot of modern Switch games imo.
Well worth it if your a Metroid fan.
