DESCRIPTION

Product code: 910262

Whyte’s Compact Trail Hardtails have been a huge success for smaller riders who don’t want to compromise their off-road experience or their expectations.

The specific geometry brings the bars in closer to put you right in the command centre but still gives the 120mm fork super surefooted confidence when you’re charging down the toughest trails. Trustworthy dirt connection is crucial too, so Whyte fit Maxxis tyres right through our off-road range.

OG MTB drivetrain innovators Shimano provide the ultra-reliable wide range twin ring transmission

Enduro grips to seal the top-quality feel

All weather disc brakes and an upright mountain bike informed riding position put you in full control whether you’re weaving through queuing traffic or a winding path through the trees.

It's going to be a good year to buy a bike.... there is massive over-stock throughout the industry.

Completely agree. Have you seen any articles? I have read a few. Going to be a tough year for bike manufacturers unfortunately, we may see a few more go the same way as Forme.

Does anyone knows about bike sizing? I am 6ft tall which size should I order ?

    Thanks in advance

Worth noting these are "compact" frame designs, as opposed to Whyte's regular geo. A more modern approach to have "mens" and "womens" bikes...

Going by other comments here, compact refers to what is traditionally termed a 'womens' bike - which is just the slant in the frame.

    Ordered, thanks

Not sure where those other comments came from but that's definitely not the case for Whytes Conpact bikes. The top tube is shorter while the length to the bottom bracket is kept longer. This makes for a less aggressive ride for all riders but will also suit people with shorter torsos. Thus that will more often lend itself to women but not necessarily.

What I don't get about this geometry is why Whytes don't provide a more detailed explanation on their website about who these bike will suit the most. You have to do all of the research. No wonder they've sold so poorly.

If I was to guess it's because their Chinese supplier forced them to take lots of these during the supply crunch in order to secure more standard frame sizes. (edited)

Look at the specs and see which for fits your criteria and budget best.

Will need new wheels within a year if you ride it, unless you can be bothered to maintain the hubs. As they are no name hubs then you can be sure this will probably be a pain in the posterior.

What’s wrong with cup and cone? Easy to maintain for the beginner, unlike removing and pressing sealed bearings.

Any good as a road bike?

It's ideal for trails and towpaths. It'll be fine on road but you'd be quicker with narrower, smoother tyres and might find the gears frustratingly slow if you like to go fast.

Anybody taken delivery yet? I had a 'despatched' email on Thursday, but the link and tracking number doesn't work (at least not yet) on the Tuffnells courier website. Still shows as 'in process' on the House of Fraser account. Appreciate the Easter weekend may be slowing down progress. (edited)

Apologies for my lack of understanding. I've had a 2019 carerra vulcan since 2019 and it's been great for my needs, bike paths/trails etc and steep hills but not offroad.
How does this bike compare to my Vulcan, I'm aware that Whyte are a good brand but this price is so low, im thinking its too good to be true :/ .
Am I right in saying it only has 9 gears?
I like tackling hills, will 9 be enough?
Appreciate any advice, thanks in advance (edited)

I don’t see any significant difference between this and the Vulcan.

Shame it's not 29", but still a bargain if you're happy with 27.5"
    This.Is.Dog's avatar
    This.Is.Dog Author
I guess being compact it's for not such tall riders. I prefer 29er but I ride an XL. It's definitely not as agile as 27.5/650 but rolls over everything so well!
