As a person with a circle of friends with various coffee machines. This is an incredibly good robust machine and highly recommended.

Had mine for 9 years and we make about 4/5 cups a day. Hasn't skipped a beat

I currently have a Sage bean to cup machine. It has developed a fault and, honestly, I have never experienced a worse customer service than theirs. The silicone seal needs replacing, and it’s a bespoke shape specific to them.

I will never buy from them again. Was great while it was working, but if you have atrocious customer support it is a huge detractor.

Their service is atrocious. We got a microwave from them where a part failed- the part was then permanently out of stock on their website so they couldn’t replace it under warranty. Despite seemingly not having the part for existing owners, they still sold the machine new.
After a lot of fighting we ended up with a new replacement unit. But I’m sure the fault will occur again and as we are out of warranty we are out of luck.
It’s not good enough to not supply spare parts for such expensive items.

    Be warned!

This isnt a bean to cup machine...

If you do buy, a few essentials:

    - Dosing funnel, plenty on ebay
    - Bang box
    - Decent coffee beans

I’ve never heard a knock box being referred to as a bang box but I like it!

You can currently get the Bambino Plus and Smart Grinder Pro for £397 from Sage which IMO, is a comparable and in many ways a better bundle.

    - Quicker start up (3 secs vs 30 secs with recommendations to wait 15 mins for all components to heat up).
    - 4 hole steam wand (better milk texture).
    - Automatic milk steaming (fool proof).
    - More adjustments on grinder (60 vs 16 (plus both can adjust inner burr for more range)).
    - Ability to use grinder standalone and with a wider grind range makes it easier for other brew methods, V60, Aeropress, Chemex, Moka Pot etc.

    Advantages of Barista Express:

    - Better portafilter.
    - Adjustable brew temp.
    - Larger drip tray and water tank.

Plus you can then upgrade the grinder or machine over time individually if you have them separate. (edited)

Anyone else had issues with the single / double shot censor? Mine no longer automatically stops - it’s done this on the last 3 machines I’ve had… so thinking it could be related to my water.

I personally have one and we use this at our work office… getting used multiple times a day - it’s a great machine. (edited)

It’s the connector on the flow meter - look up online and there are YouTube videos on how to fix. I had to do this myself a while ago

Sage don't call this a bean-to-cup machine so why do every other retailer? Really grinds my beans

It's not bean to cup, you manually tamp, etc.

If you have £500 to spend on this toy wouldn't it be money better spent to buy a good coffee machine for a bit extra?
    EV8's avatar
    EV8
It’s not a toy it’s a very capable machine, I had one for a couple of years. It produced a better shot than my old Rancilio Silvia did.
I have the Pro model now, only because the upgrade ended up being cost neutral. (edited)

I have spoken to Lakeland, you do not get a 20% voucher on sign up, you get a 10% voucher. Then 4 times a year you get a voucher pack through the post which often has a 20% off voucher in it.

I bought this exact machine at the start of lock down and it was the best purchase. Still going strong four years later, still looks great and still makes great coffee! I paid £400 back then, but have never seen it at that price since. This is a great deal for a great machine. (edited)

I like the idea of "bean to cup" but I'm concerned if I only have 1 coffee a day how much/often I'm going to need to clean it / or any of them.

How much/often would you need to clean this unit and X mins ? Is there any machines that result in less cleaning / have self clean ? If it's just to much faf then it's just a kitchen orniment.

But if serious about coffee and looking to spend circa £500 for a machine, get a Rancilio Silvia V6 instead with a good hand grinder.
