The price of this one has dropped to £23. Can be charged by usb. Looks decent. 10w is a bit strong so you’d need to be careful how you use it.

I'd say these are a little pointless tbh, HAM radio (amateur radio) is a dying hobby especially for a young person. I'm speaking as a young person. You connect to a repeater, and there is some mild activity full of elderly gentlemen talking about boring stuff.

I aways love to give new things a try, and I'm a 'tech' guy so I love to put my hands into anything techy.

I can safely say, I genuinely don't think this would appeal to someone in their 20's. The elderly gents on the repeaters a very 'by the book' and require you have a call sign even to ask if they can hear you or say hello. Not one conversation I've listened to on several repeaters would entertain anyone of my age range.

I did some reading around, and others have the same sentiment that the 'oldies' sorta ringfence HAM radio, and that it's a barrier to break into the circle.

Everyone young person my age is either out with mates, on their phones or playing Xbox or watching something. I can't see someone picking this up. This is my opinion though, obviously if your into this kind of stuff then go ahead! Just wanted to put my 2 pence in, I'm selling my radio.

It all depends where you are geographically located and what interests you personally. As posted above Personally I’ve enjoyed listening to the politics on between hospital workers and even got a couple of their full names for extra nosiness. If your are looking to make friends or have conversations then this is probably not the radio for you. As a person of any age, you’re best not letting other people decide what your hobbies or interests are. The most interesting people are people with obscure hobbies. For 13.42 this was a good deal for me be abuse if had some entertainment, but if you’re not picking anything up you’d have to travel a bit and that might be a bit too much effort.

nice price though a 10Watt would be better, plus these are easy to set up to free un;icensed frequencies with youtube. You have tax to pay, plus you can get them on Amazon at around £23-£28.00

They are not legal for free unlicensed communications for a number of reasons.

I got this radio delivered this week. It picks up workers in my local hospital loud and very clear. Worth it for the entertainment and the price. It’s rugged, well built and has a good battery life (already had a euro adapter in the house). Obviously I won’t transmit on that channel. The entertainment value if this item will depend on where you are, but for that price it’s worth a blarge.

What frequency? How did you find out the frequency for the hospital? I'm getting little use out of mine, I'm very close to selling.

Important point to note, I thought my radio isn’t receiving transmissions. It turns out you have to turn the volume up almost to max
