For anyone thinking of this and the logistics in Las Palmas ....
The bus terminal is a 5 minute walk from the cruise terminal. Buses 91 and 60 will take you to the airport in about 50 minutes and cost £2.60. You can pay by credit card. They run every 20- 30 minutes and are reliable.
If you have some time to kill before your flight, Canteras beach is one of the best city beaches anywhere and is a 10 minute walk from the cruise terminal. Most of the cruise lines will allow you to leave your luggage in their pickup area until about 5 pm. However, there is no secure left luggage at either the cruise terminal or bus station.
Or spend a couple of days in Las Palmas. It is far removed from the tourist south of the island. The city's hotels are quality and good value. Playa Canteras is a good city beach and, 5 miles south of the cruise terminal, the old town and university district has great shopping, bars, restaurants and culture.

How are flights back to London of any use if one has departed from Southampton?? Hmmmmm trains to Southampton and trains home from London. Soon adds up.

No free flights, MSC only do a few fly options for UK bookings.

This is a 12n cruise split into 2 6n cruises

    Any of the majors
    Cruisenation
    IGLU
    Cruise1st
    Cruise.co.uk
    Cruiseclubuk
    ...

    Also worth checking MSC USA

For anyone living distance from Gatwick (or sometimes Manchester too), these cruise only can work out better both in terms of cost and convenience than the so-called free flights. i.e. I can get a flight into my local airport cheaper and quicker than I can get to either Gatwick or Manchester.
Appreciate this cruise is out of Southampton .... which is probably more of a pain for anyone outside the SE anyway
Google flights and Skyscanner are your friends...

    Done the numbers with drinks
    12n £828/£1,196
    6n £248/£432
    6n £303/£487

Worth shopping around often seascanner is not the cheapest.

There's no one company that is universally better than the others.
I'd add igloo & vivavoyage to the comparison list.
Also make sure you compare like for like. e.g. sometimes vacations2go looks super cheap but they are selling the "American" product which doesn't include port fees, taxes or gratuities by default.

Cruised on MSC Virtuosa in February. Nicest ship I have been on. Absolutely pristine!

I have never been on a cruise, and as a 70 year old, maybe I should so:
My wife and I enjoy a couple of drinks a night .. rarely no more, but also enjoy cocktails.
For us it is difficult to work out the likely cost of these holidays, and for sure we expect it to be considerably more that the headline price of £248pp. Works out to £41.33PPPN, and I am not knocking the deal, but just trying to work out if we could afford this, or similar other cruise deals

So what is the likely cost for the two of us, on board charges, port fees etc.
Thanks I've got my sun glasses at the ready

Really depends on how many drinks you get. Last time I went on this exact ship (different destinations) with the premium drinks package I really enjoyed it but also drank way more than I should. Alcoholic drinks range from £6ish-16. I'd say if you only want one or two drinks then skip. Also I have seen plenty of people sneak onboard some drinks from all the destinations. That said there is also an option to buy from the duty free shop a few bottles which might be an option, but I don't know if the handover is at the time or later on. Port fees are included but if you want to take a shuttle bus then that was on the other trip between £ 9-15 depending on the destination

reminds me talking about drinks on cruises, many years ago we went on a caribbean cruise on the carnival miracle and every time you went a shore they xrayed your bag and impounded any bottles till the end of the cruise

The 2 6n are cheaper than the 12n and diamonds get 2 lots of perks.

    Drinks package is reasonable.

    Don't fly back cruise back.

Do you have to pay extra for entertainment etc? Cinemas or kids entertainment? Thanks
    fahed2000's avatar
    fahed2000 Author
There is plenty of standard entertainment and kid activities. Although there are paid activities and a play pass but as someone with no kids I didn't hang around the kids section of the boat. That said there are waterslides and a mini aquapark which I believe is free (but I didn't use it as it was cold on my Northern euro trip in march.
There is a movie of the day which is a free for all entertainment.y nephews went and they didn't get boarded at all (8, and 16;yo)

I've been on this exact ship twice before during the last 12m and had an amazing experience (except for the time they ran the 10m new visitors safety announcement in the middle of the F1 Race. Food, stay, cleaning, facilities, and entertainment were 5*

Just got off the ship yesterday, was a 3 night trip from hell booze cruise bender, be warned if the trip is a short one and includes a Sat and Sun it will be totally different to a weeks cruise.

Anyway, got home yesterday and a couple of the forum members had been on with me, they had even done the 3 nighter before and I had done the 3 nighter before that last week, anyway on is stying on for this trip to Las Palmas and also doing the return leg Las Palmas to Southampton, the other is flying out to meet him and doing the return leg, I just decided to do the same so I am flying futon Saturday to meet the ship and cruise back, booked on MSC USA website, you can call them as well, cost for a solo passenger is:

    Cruise $198 USD
Port fees and taxes $150 USD
    Tips $70 USD

I also bought Easy drinks package $294
    Wifi package $53
    But these are optional

You just need your flights out there, I could only get a business class flight with BA at over £350, business class on these routes is a total waste of money as its the same 3 seats but with the centre blocked off, you get in the airport lounges but I am BA Gold and get there free anyway even if in economy, anyway that arrives at 12.50pm from LGW so just need a 25 min cab ride to the ship from the airport. Another forum member is flying out the night before with Veuling airlines and staying a night win a hotel.

It may suite someone, I have always had the Premium drinks package but don't drink champagne or cocktails so been a bit of a waste of money, but with seascanner you only ever get the choice of nothing or premium.

Other drinks package available prices are:
    Premium £305
    Easy Plus £305
Easy £234 (includes bottled beer, draught beer, house wines and spirits, soft drinks, teas coffees etc, that will do me!

    Still cabins available!

"Trip from hell". Thanks for the tip, we have not been on a cruise and thought about trying a three night short trip to see if we liked it...didn't think on a ship like this you'd have that experience.

Drinks packages can be bought on the App Premium £420, Easy Plus £305 and Easy £234, I took easy as I have always had premium and never make use of the high end drinks like champagne or cocktails so not worth it for me when I have a choice.

So Easy drinks package is £39 a day including taxes which at £7 plus 15% taxes for a 33cl or 400cl glass of beer means I will be in profit by 10am each day
