Great deal snagged. Thanks op.

last time I went on a river thames cruise I never heard any of the commentary because of the combination of the engine and wind noise and other tourists talking over the whole of commentary.

great deal thank you

Wow this is well worth it considering what you paid. And it valid for 10 months so can be used next year or when the weather is nice. I probably Gona buy more than 1 XD

Even with an amicable discussion (amazingly nobody has insulted anyone, as is usually the case) the comments made by some people are very loaded and typify what is wrong with the tipping culture. A reasonable argument is spoiled by comments such as: "If you want to be a Scrooge . . . . ", ". . . if you want to be as mean as that. . ." and so on. What you are doing is telling people they are wrong in a round about way and dismissing their opinion according to your own standards. If have become very aware of a backlash against tipping particularly in poor countries, where a single tip can amount to more than a week's wages. This skews the local economy and puts unfair pressure on those who do not do the type of job where tipping is common, and creates a situation where everyone wants to do this type of job rather than do a real job (i.e. a necessary one). Then there is the problem I hear more and more about customers on all-inclusive holidays being snubbed by bar staff who don't hand them a tip on every drink serving despite the fact that no money should be changing hands. In reality, most countries I have visited never initially had a tipping culture but thanks to our friends from the USA, it has been introduced to them, and it goes through the stage of acceptable-encouraged-compulsory-bullying. Despite the best interests of those who say tipping is a personal thing, it just doesn't work like that, and there are enough greedy and hard faced people around who will make people uncomfortable for those who do not hand over extra cash. I appreciate this is a topic about cruises, and that's where the problem lies, because if I am on land and I don't want to tip, then I can go elsewhere, but on a cruise I don't have a choice. Yes, I can opt of of the 'compulsory' tipping if I want, but then we hear of incidents of the list of opt-outers posted on the staff notice board to give a free for all to give problems to those customers. I'm not saying this is the norm, but I really don't want to take the risk that this may happen on my expensive holiday. If the correct price for the trip was charged in the first place, all these problems would go away. As far as I am concerned I cannot be the guardian for the low paid staff. It is 100% the fault of their employers that they are low paid, but tipping gives employers carte blanche to continue the low pay culture . If they do their job well, they will be appreciated verbally, and that should be sufficient. I've even heard of people being expected to tip ship's officers and the captain in these extra charges. No way are they going to be poor.

Bring your own lifeboat.....

Spot on. No way we can change an industry. These workers are virtually always from poor countries and get paid a pittance.75P an hour. If you want to be a Scrooge dont go on Cruises. If you do go, dont treat these unfortunate staff as your skivvies.

Totally agree with you OP, well said.

True but I wasn't referring to 4K discs but DVD and Blu-ray specifically. There's just so much not available digitally yet but it's so cheap and easy to grab the DVD, rather than waiting for an eventual iTunes release. Not to mention one can import certain titles only available in the US or other parts of the world as well. It's one of the big roadblocks in me going digital is the fact there won't be everything available.

Totally understand, but on the flip side iTunes actually offers a lot of 4K titles not available on 4K disc!

You’ll just receive a message upon purchase saying you already own one or more of the films in the bundle. You’ll pay the same, the one you have will be overwritten.

I bought Jack Reacher 2 the other day off eBay for £2. If I buy this bundle do you get a discount for owning 1 if the films or do you have duplicate copies or something?

I'm not gonna bother mentioning the limitations of whatever of Apple 4K vs disc. However, the one thing that iTunes lacks is choice. There are many movies that perhaps will never be available on iTunes that is available on 1080p Blu-ray. Just next month there will be the release of Jackie Chan's Police Story 1&2 boxset from new 4K transfers. If the option doesn't exist to purchase on iTunes then you either have to grab the discs or go without. ITunes is only good for big Hollywood movies and even then there are movies missing, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake being one key example.

I'll probably have to call, because in both RCI and NCL I'm not allowed to put more than 2 kids, when 2 adults. Just checked.

Loads of ships have 5 berth or more cabins NCL have ships with cabins that hold 8 RCI has loads of 6 berth + look at navigator of the seas out of Southampton, the larger cabins hold 5 or more. They have a decent sized 1k grade 8500 and 8200 they hold 6.(min 4)

3 weeks are south of the Azores/Madeira. That is not wintery, especially so the Carribbean but there is a small chance that hurricanes could disrupt things this time of year.

Problem is that I never find one cabin for family of 5 except Disney cruise

19 days at sea out of 33? I dont think that's good especially with the sea at winter

Wow. :o You ok bro?

I am still a newbie as this is my first post :) . Everyone has to start somewhere. It does not matter whether I have posted anything before or not. No one has given you the authority to make decisions. The rules are have to show appreciation or simply get lost. Simple as that. I do not understand why you are showing your tantrum as if someone has stepped on your tail. Also, it is you who sarcastically stated 'unexpire it' without even being supportive to the post because you did not like someone else doing it on their own. If it really bothered you, then you should have kept up to date with your post to unexpire it yourself. People are not sitting here for you. And once I receive your comment I explained the situation and I am not the one throwing insults. You should be able to read before coming up with assumptions. And suggestions like you are super mad that I posted one myself. Oh I get it. Yours was somewhere 400 hot that is why you are getting really upset. And your first post rarely went up until 49%. Please show some decency for others. And remember in those years I have been a user here I have many times personally voted your posts 'hot'. I regret that. Get a life will you. Do not post more negative comments here it shows you are a sadistic person. I have posted this offer for the benefit of others and I do not have to do anything with you. Whoever wants to benefit from it is more than welcome. If you do not like it then please stay away. Thanks

Agreed, it can be lengthy in the summer season and I don’t think it’s for everyone. But if you’re new to the city or exploring it can be quite lovely once you’re on board. And you could stay on for the whole journey as a round trip if that’s easier.

I used this a few weeks ago and was a bit disappointed. We spent more time loading and unloading passengers than we did going up and down the Thames. Having left Westminster Pier we then went straight over to London Eye and picked people up from there which took longer that it would have for the people just to walk across the bridge! Commentary was reasonably interesting, but is just delivered by one of the crew, so delivery can be hit and miss. For the price it's still not a bad deal, but travelling up the river once was enough for me, I'd rather tube back than hop on and off for a few days.

Its not a bad deal. Just checked the contactless or oystercard prices for mbna riverboat and 1 trip is about 7-8 quid.

I just checked mine and it expires March 2019. I pur jased it from buyagift. This may be a different deal. Thanks though, I panicked for a second.

I love a good sail you can always grab a bloody bargain ;)

I HATED Ventura! Definitely put me off ever cruising with P&O again.

Book separately, never include flights and use companies like Viva Voyage or American Discount Cruises don’t go direct to the cruise lines. The tips are added to your cruise bill once you board but you can have them removed by going to guest relations desk and asking them. We always choose to leave cash tips to the crew we found to be most helpful. We’ve always found the drinks packages aren’t really value for money unless you are massively heavy drinkers so I wouldn’t bother adding them on and just pay for your drinks as you go. Our first cruise cost us $160 each for a 5 night cruise around the Caribbean and the flights over there were £450 each and then we combined that with a few days in a hotel. Obviously if you are wanting to go during the school holidays that’s gonna put the price up significantly but outside of that booking it separate you should get a balcony cabin around the Caribbean for a week for less than £3000.

From Barcelona, around the Med, Naples, Malta, Sicily, Marseille. To book a last minute cruise keep checking everyday, the day previous to us booking the cruise was showing as sold out, the following day it was showing 5 balcony cabins available.

You’re absolutely right. I think it has more to do with the sort of people who use HUKD though than their age. Most young people aren’t moaners. But the ones on HUKD tend to be.

That’s one way to use all your annual leave in one block

I wouldn't book anything that far in advance with P&O because you can't guarantee they won't sell the ship before you sail. Last year they sold off Adonia and cancelled all cruises booked beyond the sale date. Last week they announced they're selling off Oriana next year and cancelling all bookings beyond that sale date. Thousands of very loyal customers have been badly let down.

Wow 2020. Plenty of time to save up for the excursions, drinks etc then.

Cunard is what I would call a more traditional cruise experience ... everything just that little more upmarket. Nothing wrong with P&O and probably better for younger travellers

If you take the organised tour with the cruise company you don't need a visa

You are right, you are looking at £200 plus for a two day tour depending who you book with. I was in St Petersburg at the end of May as part of a cruise and you have to do this. There is no way you could do this by yourself and trying to get around all the places of interest in the time that you have there.

I've done the North Sea 4 times in the last year, but via the Stenna Line, and have always found it totally fine and so did my friends - but people handle sea travel differently and with it traveling across further north this boat may be worse. If you're London or elsewhere, and you don't like flying, just take the Stenna Line from Harwich, get a train to Amsterdam and then book a hotel stay for 2-3 nights. It's a wonderful city and needs much more than a day to appreciate - less than a day would just be frustrating. It's a expensive city to eat drink and stay in though, so I suppose in terms of 'going for the sake of it' and it being cheap, I guess this is a good deal.

Roughly 20,000 gallons of fuel burned per day on your average cruise liner. :o

It’s logical to assume that ships are very polluting even without the use of bunker fuel compounding it, that’s my point. For anyone willing to delve deeper on the subject it’s even more shocking. Then we’ll end up with people claiming they are travelling ‘ greener’ by plane!

I really really want to go on this cruise

Of course not - but very few people realise just how dirty the fuel they run on is. Nothing like aircraft fuel, petrol, or the dirtiest diesel you can imagine. Bunker fuel is seriously polluting.

Not on P&O, I can assure you!

Every ship and every cruise has a "meet the Captain" night to the best of my knowledge and I quote "Many cruise lines host a captain's cocktail party on every voyage so that passengers can meet the crew. The booze usually flows freely at these parties, which can last for an hour or longer. On Disney Cruises, all trips have captain's cocktail parties with free drinks, so that cruisers can mingle with the captain and Disney characters." Certainly happens on P&O. Even on Thompson, just reading.

Really? Never heard of that one........

Have done this cruise in December in 2017 and 2016. Apart from a hurricane in the Bay of Biscay we had a great time. Fantastic large ship. Lots to do. Nice ports of call. Great value for money. Get there by train coach or car. After that its a stress free holiday. Just for info as the cheapest bottle of wine onboard is about £18 :- "Bringing alcohol onboard at embarkation: Each passenger, aged 18 or older, is allowed to bring one bottle of wine, Champagne, beer, spirits or liqueur up to one liter in size at embarkation. ... Purchasingalcohol in ships' duty-free shop(s): It will be retained until the end of the cruise". G&T every morning methinks. Bring a mixer as water is £10 for 6 small bottles. Yes there are some downsides but they are managable. Dont miss Captains night, as much as you can drink for free for about 3 hours.

Cant imagine why it would be cheaper in November...

Great opp to see the midnight sun in the arctic circle. Good price, great food, chance to see an amazing waterfall, old faithfull geiser or whatever it's called and the meeting of the tectonic plates all in one day, on the golden circle tour. You don't have to pay p&o prices for that tour - just turn up at the bus station and buy a ticket there. We found the 'free' walking tour of the capital excellent, it's easy to diy there. The azura is a fantastic large ship, we enjoyed this itinerary and the ship, and this is an ok price.

I found P&O to offer the best value for money of all. The clientele were absolutely diverse. Some preferred the Buffet and others like me preferred the Fine Dining. Everybody seemed to get on. I did hear people complaining about dress codes or should I say lack of them but they were in the minority. The one thing about Cruising is that people are so helpful and full of advice If you havnt been give it a go. There are 3 P&O cruises every December to the Med and Canaries that are very cheap. Check them out too.

If you REALLY want to hack them off, just tell them you're paying £75 a night for a suite (last-minute deal!) and particularly enjoying breakfasts in the Epicurean and lunches served by the butler. Guaranteed to work! (party)

johnnyd57uk many times at the dinner tables we have heard old stuck up pensioners moaning about people not adhering to dress code . Or when younger people enjoy themselves they give snotty looks . They think they are above others . They also keep moaning about these new huge super ships and they want new smaller traditional ships . They are half dead , they hate a good atmosphere. They have put us off P&O now , So we do Royal Caribbean and NCL now . Was fed up of being asked how many cruise have you done , to a reply this is our 58 th cruise .
