Be insane to buy anything WD right now, not been able to sell anything on their site for around a month.
Contaminated 6.5 billion gigabytes of flash storage lost, the well documented hacking issue affecting them right now, been pretty much an awful year for them.
Will they recover from this crisis? i'm not sure they will.

I have 5 of these units, all run hot and I have additional fans on top to keep them to sensible temperatures (at least, what Hard Disk Sentinel considers sensible). The last one I bought (20tb) still runs 10 degrees hotter than the others without load and with load I bring in another fan to cool it. I run each as a mirrored pair of drives.

The last two (28tb and 20tb) are noisier than the first ones (pre-pandemic) and WD have made changes to their Reds range in the last couple of years.

Great to see these drives dropping in price but still can't help thinking that 36tb is a lot of data to lose if that single drive fails! I guess it was no different when 1tb drives were released, the last drive I bought was a WD 6tb and I bought another 6tb to back that up as I'd be devastated if I lost everything! Am I being too risk adverse? Be interesting to hear other people's thoughts. My view might be down to losing everything on that first 1tb drive... thankfully it was just my Plex movies drive and not family photos, kids birthdays and special occasions etc. if it was I'd have been devastated which is why I always now back up to another drive... that would be expensive in this instance! It took quite a bit of time to eventually replace the movies I lost... however I wouldn't have that ability if it was family photos!
