Note that if you visit Cuba, you can no longer visit the USA using an ESTA

Note that as Cuba and America don't talk to each other and Cuba doesn't stamp you in the only way America will know you've visited Cuba when you apply for your esta is by telling them so

We’ve just come back from Cuba with TUI. Stopped at the Iberostar instead. Someone told us that TUI had upgraded them from the Tainos to the Iberostar as they were doing work at the Tainos and so the upgrade was free. Not sure it that would happen. Cuba was nice but as all the reviews say, the food and drink ain’t what you would expect in Mexico for instance, we were a little disappointed even after knowing that before we went. People were friendly but seemed more friendly to the Canadians which were nearly all the people there.

Actually it may be technically true, but when applying for an ESTA, the subject of visiting Cuba simply doesn't occur. So you aren't lying if you weren't asked the question.

    It doesn't? It certainly does!

Official ESTA Application Website, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (dhs.gov)

"How does Cuba’s designation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism impact my travel to the United States using my approved ESTA?
If a traveler is found to have visited a country designated as State Sponsor of Terrorism, the traveler is no longer eligible to participate in the Visa Waiver Program and must apply for a visa to enter the United States."

Just back from the USA, you need a FULL VISA if you intend to travel to USA after visiting Cuba. It’s not an ESTA for any US travel, full VISA will be needed. It says everywhere it you have visited Cuba all around customs and you will be declined entry as a full VISA takes months to come back. So be aware.

    So a full visa then?

It’s not a problem per say but after Trump designated Cuba as state sponsoring terrorism you no longer can enter USA using esta and have to apply for visa and attend interview at us embassy

Been Cuba 3 times now. Sure it’s a little rustic partially to do with USA embargo’s from their Russian supporting days, however, you’ll get good service, outstanding beaches and worth paying the extra USA nonsense of an interview if needed afterwards.

Never felt unsafe there, Dominican Republic far worse in that part of the world.

Same. If you haven't experienced Cuba and at least a day in Havana then you are missing out.

Been on a Caribbean Cruise, Havana was Awsome, We had a 5 year old and walked around all the Town then chilled out at a lovely Bristol style Bar/Foody, Then a Carnival came up the street, Was the highlight off our Holidays, No worries in Havana, More scared of going in any big English town centre, London, Liverpool Manchester, Birmingham,

I’ve been in Jan 20 and Nov 22 - both times 10 days each cycling across west Cuba - beautiful country and lovely people 50138858-xwlHp.jpg

I went to Cuba in May 2019 and stayed in Havana for 4 nights then onto Varadero for 10 days and I really did enjoy the holiday. Havana was brilliant lovely friendly vibe as I'm a big latin music fan there was live music everywhere. The food in the hotels was decent nothing great but it was ok and you will not starve. However there's a traditional Cuban restaurant in Havana called San Juan bar & Grill near Plaza La Cathedral which has some amazing Cuban dishes.

The Varadero hotel we stayed in put us in the wrong rooms and once we realised we got upgraded to a penthouse suite as that's all they had so no complaints from me. We had private drivers doing the hotel transfers as part of our package via a local travel agent near me.

There are others parts of the island I intend to visit next time I go such as Trinidad.

The people are great and many hotel staff speak English so it's not that bad but knowing some Spanish helps.

    Viva Cuba (edited)

When I visited last in Nov ‘22 my passport wasn’t stamped I’m sure this was done deliberately by the Cuban immigration but if you think that US homeland security doesn’t know where you’ve been I’d say think again - as anther poster has said US customs can be quite harsh even when you have the correct paperwork- at LAX they were very unpleasant (edited)

I'm sure I read you can trade most things for tins of tuna in Cuba

The kids in exchange for a tin of tuna each? Where do I sign-up?

Why is everyone going to the states after Cuba? Are you making money on cigars?

Not quite sure how this is a good deal? Varadero is just a resort in a warm country. And at that price there are a lot better alternatives. Cuba itself is dirt cheap, and very run down.

we went in May a couple of years ago to the south flying into Holguin. We loved it apart from the weather it rained for half the time whilst we were there I think it's their rainy season but I would go back
