Take the 702 bus from Reading to London Victoria, 3 departures each way for £2 each way. It's quite a long journey of around 2hr but £2 is cheap as hell

Morning departures from Reading 07:35 (arr. 09:25), 08:32 (arr. 10:29), 09:30 (arr.11:41)
Evening return from London Victoria 17:30 (arr. 20:26), 19:25 (arr. 21:37), 21:45 (arr. 23:20)

Note: timetable changes on Tuesday 3 January 2023
Morning departures from Reading 05:16 (arr. 07:34), 06:25 (arr. 08:30), 06:35 (arr.09:21)
Evening return from London Victoria 17:10 (arr. 19:24), 19:35 (arr. 21:49), 21:45 (arr. 23:32)

This initiative will be in place until March 31 2023 and will be valid on all single journeys across the Reading Buses, Thames Valley Buses, Green Line 702/703 and Newbury & District networks - with the only exceptions being on football buses and buses allocated for school travel.

how does it work?
It's quite simple really! Between January and March, the maximum single fare you can pay on our buses will be £2* - this ticket will be available on our app or from the driver on the bus. This fare is applicable from anywhere to anywhere on a single journey - so you could get from Reading to Newbury, Bracknell to Wokingham or even from Slough to London for just £2!

The ticket will be available on the Reading Buses, Newbury & District, Green Line and Thames Valley apps towards the end of December so keep your eyes peeled.

It looks like the deal is for use on the Reading Bus network only and that extends to Slough with the 702 service. Not sure if you can then can pay another £2 to get from Slough to London. There is no mention in the link that you gave about the offer being used on the 702 from Reading to London.

Still a great deal thanks for posting. (edited)

    The link states
"This fare is applicable from anywhere to anywhere on a single journey - so you could get from Reading to Newbury, Bracknell to Wokingham or even from Slough to London for just £2!".

and "This initiative will be in place until March 31 2023 and will be valid on all single journeys across the Reading Buses, Thames Valley Buses, Green Line 702/703 and Newbury & District networks - with the only exceptions being on football buses and buses allocated for school travel."

So Reading - London is £2 , Slough - London is £2; single; in either direction.

It's always possible that the link or linked page text was changed since you posted your comment. (edited)

I wonder what the longest £2 journey in the UK is. I know Cheltenham to Oxford is £2 then another £2 to get to Milton Keynes.

In terms of time, Harlow to Heathrow airport is the longest I could find in 10 minutes; at least 3 h 42 Min and I didn't check all days/times.
Involves changing buses (apparently) but is covered by one ticket and so £2 total:

Or you could have halved the price and just offered residents of Reading a one way ticket to escape

Seems the 702 is also a chance to escape from Slough... But you've them got the dilemma to choose between London or Reading... Decisions decisions ... (edited)

I used to live in Maidenhead, so stuck between Slough and Reading. I made a much better choice in the end. Just escape England

The only downside is you have to come back to Reading

Wouldn't moving into your Kensington maisonette be easier? Or too small for the dogs?

I'm going to give this a go. The weekend seems like the best time to try and the journey times are far shorter.
