Just bought one of these, does anyone know what the cotter pin is and where it goes? No reference in the user manual.

I think you'll find it goes on the bottom of the pole that hold the hose reel to the bracket to stop the pole being pulled out another option is to use a padlock so it can't just be taken off and stolen.

I’m on my third one of these Aldi retractable hoses. With the first two they were ok for a while but both hoses stopped retracting, one was after over wintering in the garage, the second one during the summer (prior to hose pipe ban of course). When you see the construction of the retracting springs and the flimsy plastic guiders you’ll understand why. You need to treat them with a bit of TLC. However, it is half the price of a Screwfix Titan hose and a third of the price of a Gardena. Make sure you keep your Aldi receipt should you need to exchange.

And this is why these are 40quid and my equivalent hoselock is more than double the price. My auto reel has been used and abused,  moved about a lot and is still operating perfectly. Once this packs up il get the 40m version. Really is a good piece of kit. But maybe if you don’t use it much it could still be ok

Do you have to build it or does it come as is?

Comes as it is so to speak you will have to fix bracket to a wall with the 4 supplied bolts/screws

    Do they do longer ones?
    smudgemobile's avatar

Aldi only had this one, you can buy longer ones 30/35mt but it'll cost you around £80 for a cheap no name one.

Got one of these 6+ years ago and it's still going strong. Did have an issue with the guide a year or so ago but squirted some GT85 in there and all good.

Are these permanent installed or can the reel be removed and stored away?

Have an ideal location to install one of these but if permanent, it will block the walk-way.
    smudgemobile's avatar

Yes they can be removed the bracket stays on the wall it has a pole that goes through the hose reel to hold it on, you should be able to just about see it in the what's in the box picture. ( 2nd pic top row) (edited)

Can these be left out all year round and do Aldi still sell them in store?
  17. smudgemobile's avatar
    smudgemobile Author
They can be left out but it will get weather'd you can get covers for them or just remove the hose reel and leave the bracket on wall it take 30 seconds to remove.

Found this in one of the norwich stores.

Wall fixings are solid. 20m is more than enough for me.

really good price for this. Seems very solid.
