I've got the old model of this and it's great to read with. Overdrive integration is great for borrowing from libraries and saving more there.

    Good find!
It's the best reader on the market, much more flexible and better to use than the Kindle.
Great value at full price, but this is a steal.
    Wouldn't be without mine.
ps if you get one, go to Mobileread to find out how to customise it to your own preferences, making it even better.
ps if you buy from Rakuten Kobo themselves online, you get a two year guarantee. (edited)

What exactly makes this any better than say a kindle paperswhite 3?

Here's a comparison with the 2021 Paperwhite. Big thing that is missing there for me is that the Libra can easily sync with Overdrive making it very easy to borrow books from libraries. Kindles can't connect with Overdrive in the UK.

I could also never go to an ereader without buttons but that's personal preference. (edited)

I have the Kobo Clara 2e, my third Kobo. They are the best on the market, so much more open and flexible than Kindle as they allow you to read various formats from any source. Some Kindle books can be converted to allow reading on Kobo but amazon keep changing the format to try and force you into using their devices.

The Kindle can handle epub files now, apart from pdf. But no library integration in UK.

Love mine. Good upgrade over the Kindle. Can use Pocket for web articles, epub, more file support and Libby for Library books over the Kindle!

    Red Hot. (edited)

You cannot easily open books purchased (free or with a cost) through Amazon's eco-system. Amazon fiercely defends the right for their items only to be opened on their devices.
