This stuff is the latest fad. If I ran MyProtein I would get a book on Ayurveda, and every couple of years get one of those natural potions, brand it up and market the hell out of it until I get all the fitness freaks believing it will give them those extra gains, some extra sleep, or lose extra fat. Rinse it until I pick the next magic all natural miracle pill. I'd be minted.

I did a lot of research before buying this supplement, and I certainly felt worse from taking the suggested dose for about 14-21 days….. my mood definitely dropped, and wasn’t the positive experience I perhaps hoped it would be…. Even via a placebo effect if need be ) …. Got them at a similar price end of summer ‘22 from MP. (edited)

I gave these a run for mild Anxiety, tried them at morning first, then switched to night - rubbish.

Made me jittery, felt like crap.

    Description of this Supplement

I wasn’t sure what this supplement was but looking at this article, it suggests that an effective dose is 700-800mg. This is 500mg per tablet and they recommend 1 tablet daily, so this might not be effective for most people. Best to keep that in mind when trying out supplements if you’re unfamiliar with the product.

This stuff works as a powerful anxiolytic, significantly reduces cortisol, takes about a week to kick in, but will lead to depression/anhedonia. Best used occasionally, as needed.
    _Jay_Kay_'s avatar
So how do you decide when to use? You'll be up and down in and out of depression.

Helps with anxiety, though some people can/do suffer from anhedonia. Its needs to be cycled and long term use can mess things up as it changes our hormones. (edited)

There’s so much inconsistency and randomness with the effectiveness of this, whether it’s anecdotal or a scientific study (which sadly there needs to be more of). It clearly has placebo effects for many of the anecdotal testimonials, but some also make profound contrasting claims.

I think the one claim that seems to stand though is that it can reduce cortisol levels. Which comes with a variety of additional subjective effects on other chemicals and hormones.

Ashwaganda also seems really cheap. It’s also similarly priced in Home Bargains. Which may also be an alarm bell. I’d say it’s worth a try for the price, but take care with it and preferably monitor blood levels before and after use. (edited)

It drastically decreases cortisol levels for me, and increases libido. For me this means I can be presenting to a group of 100 people and feel calm, rather than my heart rate at 150bhp and sweating.

These effects wear out after a week, so it needs to be cycled.

These are actually really effective and should be taken properly. To sum it take when you know you are going to have a stressful week or two, or if something out the blue occurs and don't take for longer than 2 weeks at a time then take at least 2 weeks off if you can. Take later in the day to avoid additional anxiety as it reduces cortisol quite quickly and we should have cortisol in the mornings to get us through the day. If taken for longer than a few weeks it can lower cortisol to the point you don't want to get out of bed basically. Great supplement when used correctly

... and bonus points for the correct pronunciation
    blaser's avatar
No idea what it does, but in Sanskrit it means 'horse (ashwa) smell (gandha)'.

Treat these things at par with medicines. Don't over indulge. If you don't feel better within a week stop taking. Even when feeling better best to discontinue after 3 weeks for 3-4 weeks and then resume for 3 weeks. If in doubt read first sentence. (edited)

What’s the science behind taking 3/4 weeks off of them?

I've been on these for 2 year's for slight anxiety. Tried lots of different brands. Always go for ones with ksm/black Pepper and 5% withaloids. (edited)

from a man's perspective - I was taking them for a month a substitute to antidepresents. As someone mentioned above they do cause anhedonia and also a significant drop in libido. Stay away from long term use and use for a 1 week at most.

    examine.com/sup…ha/

This website if no one has seen it before provides useful summaries of the evidence and research for many supplements. And briefly looking at it, it seems to be linked to many different markers and benefits which is usually a bit of a red flag to me as it sounds more like a miracle cure-all. However like a lot of herbal/traditional products there’s not a lot of high quality and significant evidence and of course more research is needed.

This has been used for thousands of years so it must be good is a poor selling point for me. If you take it and you feel it works then that’s all that matters, just don’t break the bank for premium/purer etc brands. Bit like neurofen and generic 30p ibuprofen.

I bought some from Costco a while back (it regularly is on offer), I can honestly say that I didn't notice any change in my mood whatsoever. Everybody's different when it comes to these things but I have been taking it regularly for several months now and will not continue once I run out.
Bay leaf is free for a lot of people - check out its benefits.

My protein have decent deals from time to time, but they have the the most archaic, vague and intention difficult returns process, its almost as if they make it hard so you get put off.
    The worst possible customer service.
