It's a bit daunting when you first start, but you soon learn what food is good, what is bad, and what can be eaten in moderation. I think everyone is different so what will affect one person in one way will not necessarily affect another. It's about learning what works for you.
I was recommended these apps, particularly the Monash one where you can check for particular foods with a food guide and also branded products so you know what to buy at the supermarket and also allows you to track your progress.

FODMAP stands for Fermentable Oligo-, Di-, Mono-saccharides And Polyols. These are a group of short-chain carbohydrates that are poorly absorbed. In people with gastrointestinal symptoms, a diet high in FODMAPs can induce diarrhoea and/or constipation, bloating, wind and abdominal pain.
IBS is a group of conditions. There are a number of causes, and not all of them can be cured using the same techniques. Fodmap has been proven to work for some people, as has treatment for SIBO.
Difficult to be generalistic with GI disorders.

Awww, it's not healthy, but completely understand why you'd that Hopefully it will help you with a more varied diet whilst avoiding the trigger foods that are most likely to cause symptoms. Really wish you well as I know 100% what it's like x

I was tested for that. Was completely clear of any infection and still had symptoms.

Yep. Hence why so many people struggle for so long to find a cure for their personal problem.
Both my times were done through private, SIBO "Specialists" but the first one definitely wasn't. Modern medicine doctors dont really understand SIBO - where it comes from and how to keep it gone for good. Luckily some nutritionists and naturopaths do. I know how to interpret tests, if you have a copy as you went through private, feel free to send it my way if you want a second pair of eyes
The 2 meta studies I've read reckon 30-55%. This is still significant, but dismissing diets, where there is quite a lot of empirical data showing an improvement in symptoms of some IBS sufferers is not very clever.

Are you sure your doctor interpreted it correctly? As it is still very new, not many doctors know about it and interpret the results. I had a test done in 2017 for it. The results were actually positive but the Dr marked it is as a negative. Now when I've gone back to a professor in London he retested me and although my results are way lower than they were in 2017 (due to detoxes), i still have it.
I hope they interpreted it correctly I had it done twice, once privately, once through the NHS, both times negative. I had it done through the NHS last year. After what you say though, I'll definitely query it with my Gastro at the next appointment! The Gastroenterologist I see is a professor too, so hoping he hasn't got mine wrong Thanks for the info though, very helpful
Studies have shown that in up to 80% of ibs cases, the cause was SIBO. This is an extremely high amount and now this may not help all, based on the stats it could help the majority.
