Samsung Electronics today announced that Samsung TV Plus, one of the top apps on Samsung Smart TVs, has launched, in the Galaxy Store and Google Play Store for select Galaxy smartphones. The app offers select Galaxy users instant access to 94 free channels with no need for any payments, sign-ups, subscriptions or additional devices.

From the 22nd April, Samsung Galaxy smartphone and tablet users will gain access to high-quality content from big-name brands like Vevo Pop, Teletubbies, Euronews and Bloomberg TV+, all available to enjoy on-demand for free. Samsung TV Plus also has its very own channel exclusive to the platform, ‘Comedy’, which hosts an array of great UK and US favourites such as Hot in Cleveland, Russell Howard’s Good News and Taskmaster Best Bits. With different shows and channels across seven EU territories and more channels being added constantly, there truly is something for everyone.

The service is already available on all Samsung Smart TV models manufactured from 2016 onward in twelve countries around the world, and will be made available on mobile and tablets today, in the UK and Germany, expanding to other European markets later this year. The mobile app will be exclusive to Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet owners, and available to download immediately to gain access to 100% free content for anyone with an internet connection.

From the 28th April, the service will also be accessible via Samsung’s brand new ‘Samsung Free’ page. With a single swipe right, users will be able to read news, play games and now watch TV Plus highlights straight from the home screen, making it easier than ever for users to access their favourite shows. Phones that upgrade to R OS or any Samsung phone model from 2021 will offer Samsung Free preloaded, while other users can choose Samsung Free from the Galaxy Store.

If you happen to be on a non Samsung device, you may want to try your luck with this.

    apkmirror.com/apk…ase

It may still not work on a non samsung device but at least you have the option to install it and try it.

I never watched any live here in UK, so I will assume I am good till now and Samsung TV plus is not good enough to take me in...

    My pleasure.

You can go to the BBC Licence website and fill in their declaration that you do not need a TV licence because you do not watch LIVE TV, and also do not use BBC iPlayer for anything live or dead (or repeated repeated repeats..., just me being sarky, could not help that bit!)

    bbc.co.uk/ipl…nce

Yes. A valid TV licence is required to watch or download any programmes on BBC iPlayer, as well as watching or recording live TV on any channel. Doing so without a TV licence is a criminal offence and you could be prosecuted and fined up to £1000 (or £2000 in Guernsey)

Basicaly I would delete any instance of iPlayer on any machine you use and delete any BBC account, and any login account to iPlayer specifically, if you are concerned their "goons" would come round and try to trick you into saying you are doing something that needs a licence.

I get the appeal of this, but hate how it's activated with the TV automatically. Any slip of the remote and somehow the TV always switches to their channels & as far as I can tell there's no way of deactivating it from my current TV (aside from disconnecting it from the WiFi)

Yup. I left my kid for two minutes watching Paw Patrol yesterday. Came back to find he'd hit a button and turned on the DJ livestream channel (that's a thing apparently) and was having a one man (well, one toddler) rave in the living room.

I do not understand comments above, as I do not even remember one time when these channels switched on by accident? It is just an app you have to click to open list of these channels?

on my tv its the first thing in the list of sources. no way to remove it and it tries its hardest to default to start on the app when the tv is switched on. if i exit the netflix app or the sky box isnt on or just accidently knock the channel button on the remote it will switch back to the tv plus app. very annoying. wish i could delete it or at the very least move it to the other end of the source list. apart from being annoying one of my concerns is that it could be on a channel unsuitable for my kids, i try and make sure its on something neutral. but really we should have the option to turn it off.

    tvlicensing.co.uk/che…one

What is live TV and when do I need a licence for it?

Live TV means any programme you watch or record as it’s being shown on TV or live on any online TV service. It’s not just live events like sport, news and music. It covers all programmes on any channel, including soaps, series, documentaries and even movies.

If you’re watching live TV, you need to be covered by a TV Licence:

if you’re watching on TV or on an online TV service
for all channels, not just the BBC
if you record a programme and watch it later
if you watch a programme on a delay
    to watch or record repeats
to watch or record programmes on +1, +2 and +24 channels
to watch live programmes on Red Button services
even if you already pay for cable, satellite or other TV services

    Samsung say on:
    news.samsung.com/uk/…lus

The Samsung TV Plus experience gives users instant access to leading international news, sports and entertainment channels. Enjoy 80 live and on-demand TV channels for free.

So if you watch the LIVE part of the service, the BBC say "cough up £160".

If I was their Editor I would have made the herbert that wrote this BBC article say:

if you’re watching a LIVE BROADCAST on a TV set, or on an online TV service...

You can watch stuff ON TV (or online) if it is a "CATCHUP" not being currently broadcast LIVE (anywhere in the world) at the same time, without a TV licence. (edited)

Yes, seems to be similar stuff you can find on other free TV apps, Pluto TV and rakuten TV apps. Btw the rakuten TV app offers on-demand stuff. Would also recommend the Plex TV app - loads of free channels

I get audio, but no picture :/ I've installed pluto TV and it's the same.. I haven't installed anything since it last worked, so possibly auto update screw things up. (channel recording was once not working for over a year due to Samsung's software update :/ they've reluctantly admitted to the issue but couldn't fix it..)Any suggestions? I don't think these new channels are worth wasting time on resetting the TV, which may not fix it.. Ps bcc Iplayer, YouTube, etc all working fine

I've actually managed to fix the issue. I should have thought of it before... switching tv off and on didn't help, but disconnecting it from the mains for about a minute solved the problem maybe it will help someone, as after googling, I saw others had the same problem
