The hood is roomy and relaxed, acting as a wind and rain shield for your face when pulled up.

Because its nylon/polyester? What were you expecting from a lightweight, packable jacket? lmao

Does it have a draw cords on the hood?

Nope. Although the hood edge is slightly elasticated so hugs my forehead ok.

Mine arrived today, so for everyone else…..

Yes is is down filled going by the whacking big label on the tag.

Its very very light and very thin. I went out in it today with just a t shirt under it and was warm enough though i doubt itll keep out the highest of wind chills or exposed winds over a long period of time. After about 90mins walk i was starting to wish i put a jumper on as well.

Sizing is perfect to the prescribed chart on the details page or at least for me anyway. XL

The hood is quite large if you have a small head and the edge lip just hooks on my forehead but in the headwind it would be blown off easily. No drawstrings.

For the money its ok, I’m using it as a work jacket for outside so don’t really mind but i wouldn’t go planning any hikes in the hills in this without some serious underlayers with you. (edited)

You'd have been warmer if you'd put your trousers on 😨

    From blacks website

Filled with a 90/10 duck down mix, with 700 down fill power, it's designed to keep your core nice and warm. It has a durable water repellent coating that will cope with light rain and snow showers, whilst the downproof fabric helps reduce overall feather loss. The jacket also compacts down really easily and can be stuffed inside its own pocket to a manageable size.

    700 fill down insulation
    Durable, water repellent finish
    Close fitting cuffs
    Adjustable hem drawcord
    Zipped pockets

I think expectations are a bit high in some cases for this £30 thing.

I just test drove mine to Aldi. It's 10C out and I was in this and t-shirt.
All good, outside I was nice and warm with it only zipped up at the bottom.

I feel that this jacket would be fine down to say 5C after that, and sub zero, you need something substantial.

    True to size?

Yes - I have 3 other Peter Storm jackets in Medium and this comes up a tiny fraction of a closer fit, probably due to the packable nature. I certainly wouldn't have gone up a size though.

Great jacket. Packs away to a small size, lightweight, but super warm and cosy when worn

This will be perfect for me, need something I can pack in my backpack will combine it with a gortex thin water proof jacket and nice base layer. I prefer layers as opposed to a really warm jacket, I run very hot anyway.

Had it my basket at 31.50 ready to pay and the price increased to full price at next stage. Call customer service but they say nothing they can do - I don’t know if consumer rights affects this. Got other things more pressing on so middle finger to them and move on.

They have been around .. many decades. A budget brand okay for casual thing but not for serious outdoors in extremes. IMO

Though you can probabaly tell that from the price

    £50 vs £30.. err that's £20 more.

The number refers to the quality of the fill not the volume,

The quality of the fill is generally denoted by the figures 80/20 or 90/10, and refers to the ratio of down to feathers. The 700 figure refers to the fill volume. Having ordered this jacket, there is no way it measures up to the quoted fill volume; I have two other down jackets with fill volumes of 650 and 700, and I would say this is more like 350 to 400 at best.

Partially incorrect, fill power is the rating of how much the down LOFTS. The volume/weight will be measured in grams.

500FP will loft less than 900FP, weight/volume is irrelevant

You are upset because the lack of down in the jacket.

Washed it at 30c as per instructions and the “fill” has moved into balls within the jacket. Has anyone experienced this? Any remedies? Thanks

If it’s a true down jacket you now have balls of feathers in the pockets. You could try massaging the balls… or shaking the jacket or putting it VERY GENTLY in a tumble drier to re loft the feathers
