sorted byCheaper to upgrade from a cheap PS4 copy ATM £15-17 depending on if you want delivery. Link to cheap copy from cex and instructions on how to it in linked deal.
It's the same game but up to a tenner cheaper.
Varies from game to game. A lot of first party Sony PS4 got dedicated patches to run better on ps5 e.g The Last of Us 2, God of War, Days Gone, Horizon etc but games like this one are dedicated PS5 versions and can command a 5-10 pound fee.
Simply popping those games in the PS5 will pop up an option to upgrade. Paid upgrade games include this game, spider man remastered and the new Uncharted release.
Its worth doing your research on individual titles.
If it's for the collection I think it'll still pay to wait. Price is dropping quickly on this as there's not really enough to justify a complete ps5 re-release with this.
Its your money but 25 for a physical case that'll be worth about 4 quid after a while is not a great investment. I say that as someone with a substantial but pretty worthless physical collection.
Basically if you purchase the PS4 Disc, or PS4 Digital version - it’s a universal £5 upgrade fee. If you’re upgrading with a PS4 Disc you’d have to insert the disc for every play through. The £5 upgrade includes Director’s Cut edition though to be fair.

For Death Stranding, you need to go to PS Store and search for the PS5 version, which will be reduced to £5 if you have the PS4 version in your library (ie you've installed it once). You'll need the PS4 disc inserted to play.
Other games are a free upgrade, but you still need to search on PS Store and download as before.
There's no need to keep the PS4 version on your PS5 (but you'll need the PS4 disc to play the PS5 upgrade as it's essentially your licence and proving you haven't sold the disc). If you do have both versions installed, make sure you're playing the PS5 version (on your main PS5 dashboard, press Options on the game and go to Game Version or something like that and choose PS5).
60+ hours later and to sum it up.
Masterpice
You're getting a cheap ps5 copy with the upgrade method It's closer to a tenner saved btw, a 50 percent saving when looking at all the 30 quid deal. I'm here to get the best deal on games, the best deal on a PS5 copy of the director's cut is through upgrading a PS4 copy.
You're meant to be the expert here I shouldn't be the fella letting people know there is an option to save between 10 and 15 pounds.
I'm not saying that these deals are worthless, just that there is a cheaper alternative for the same bit of kit.
I'll stop posting the advice when people stop posting these deals and failing to notify users there is a potential saving to be had.
I can't believe posting on a deal sites to save people money gets this much push back.
I’d say it’s worthwhile if you have the time to put into it; the beginning is quite a deep feeling, and the walking between some areas is quite apt for the story in the beginning. You develop ways to travel as you progress though.
If you enjoy the mindset of Hideo Kojima, it’s an absolute masterpiece. Both storytelling and character portrayal.
But if you’re really not keen on ploughing hours into a game, I’d shelve it for now!
I appreciate you keep commenting about this everywhere but then it’s near Christmas. PS5 for many would be a new thing and many people would want try this game for the first time. Buying a cheap PS5 copy would be ideal for many!
Besides Kojima deserves every possible support he can get. Paying £5 more and buying a new copy instead of buying a used copy with upgrade is not going to put anyone out of business. Instead you’ve supported a great developer who’d deserves a lot more.
It’s a marmite kind of game.
I went ahead and bought it with open mind (PC - maximum settings) and hated it.money wasted.but some seem to think it’s great (edited)
Why haven’t I ever described it as this? Genius!
You’re failing to see the bigger picture and I’m not here to educate you either.
What you may assume as a word of advice is not some hidden tricks you’ve discovered by yourself and are teaching to people. It was publicly announced by Sony that the upgrade costs £5 for PS4 owners of the game. Buying a second hand game would also almost always costs less.
But from me to you, site is not always about saving money, no. Sometimes there are bigger values in life to take into account. Encouraging people to buy a second hand copy to save £5-£10 would not help the developer when potentially buying a new copy would.
You as someone who claims to have enjoyed the game should know that. You don’t need to be an “expert”. Just a bit of common sense is enough.
At the end of the day I think it’s each to their own. Enjoy your used copy from CeX. (edited)
Whether it's good or not is a matter of opinion, it's a very marmite game - personally I adored it. What is not a matter of opinion is that it's absolutely not a 'walking simulator'. Unless your walks usually end up riding a zipline with a corpse strapped to your back, hurling poo grenades at a giant ghost squid.
Who said anything about a big secret? I'm not even trying to claim credit. What are you waffling on about? Its not like I'm the one who spends all of my time scouring my email alerts to report that there's 5p off a copy of this and then gets in a huff when someone simply points out it's available cheaper.
What 'bigger values' are you proposing here? At a time where people's personal incomes are being squeezed tighter and tighter and the cost of living is surging up you want hukd to gather round and spare a thought for poor old *checks notes* highly successful game developer Hideo Kojima?!
Is there a secret cabal of game Dev charity warriors I missed?
The majority of deals posted here ATM exploit regional currencies to massively undercut domestic pricing. I don't see many crying 'will someone please think if the Devs or the struggling countries economies!'.
They didn't devalue the Turkish lira so you and your mates could get more heat.
Do you think Kojima is getting the same back on the Turkey PSN deals that will inevitably get posted here? Its a long time since I studied economics but the numbers aren't looking great on that.
Hopefully CEX do a reduced to clear on moral high horses.
You'd not even be denying the Devs the income ,as with a traditional second hand sale, as you are needing to pay for the upgrade. It will count as a sale internally in Sony metrics.
Dare I say it again. You literally get a copy of the game via the upgrade method. I can still play my PS4 copy just fine and get a separate PS5 install.
What did you think was gonna happen to him? Sony are like, 'you know that game we bankrolled and gave you creative control over and lent you our in house game engine to run on. Well, despite collaborating with you for the best part of twenty years we didn't realise you're that out there and now we realise that you're never gonna outsell God if War. Guess this is farewell'.
To which, if you truly believe that's a risk if happening; I'd imagine Kojimas reply would be ' Do you have Phil Spencer's number?'
Also, not that it's relevant, but my copy wasn't a cex jobby, it was my original day one copy I paid 50 quid for.
I don't understand your snobbery for second hand games though. I mean fundamentally one of the key advantages of physical is a sense of ownership and something that keeps at least some inherent value. That doesn't magically change because, God forbid, you had to mingle with the lads in the cheaper seats. I'd if enjoyed the game just as much had I got it second hand I'd imagine.
Again, weird flex on a deals website but you do you.
Enjoy paying a 15 pound premium for a PS5 logo on the box *shrug*.
Absolutely a good shout - this is how I did it myself, but I kinda want the PS5 disc now I’ve seen these prices around the £25 mark
How does the free ps5 upgrade work? Keep. Hearing it on these threads. Just got the boy a ps5 for Xmas and wondering whether I can get some ps5 versions of his digital and physical purchases
Ultimately I’m just glad people are playing it, because it’s a game I really enjoyed! (edited)
My original reply to your comment keeps being reported/deleted.
Writing about your economic lessons, Turkish Lira, Phil Spencer in a long reply doesn’t make it any better for you.
I said what I had to say before, I’m not here to educate you. That’s all.
