Great jackets. If you are willing to spend a bit extra (£12), "Combat" by ben nevis clothing offers a better made version, still made in UK. Their shop in camden is a must visit as they have a load of one offs and test samples for sale too.

Beyond that, Baracuta make the best versions, I would never pay retail, but they can be had really quite cheap on ebay if you aren't super fussed about the colour (blacks and navys keep their value). They are again a noticeable step up in quality/features.

There are £12-£15 no name "made in england" harringtons available on ebay, I have purchased these in the past and sent them back, they may well be made in england, but you would be better off buying from primark for quality.

avoid it like the plague mate
They are made differently, have poor stitching and thinner materials.
The UK has very flippant laws on what constitutes "made in england". Assuming they aren't completely making it up, all they would have to do is "finish" or do some small part in the uk and could make the case that its made in the UK (eg quality checking and loose thread cutting). regardless these are not worth a penny imo (edited)

Yes, I have. In front of me I have a Combat in navy, baracuta in beigey-yellow and either a no-name in burgundy. I did have a harringtonjacketstore (HJS) in black but gave it away to a family member. If there are any specifics anybody wants details of/photos of let me know.

The HJS jacket was definitely better than the no name for build quality - for me less lose stitching, better QC, slightly nicer feeling lining, same pattern or shape though. However it was definitely worse than the Combat, which had nicer stronger feeling stitching, nicer pattern than the former (completely subjective as this is regarding fit), and things like the pockets felt a lot more sturdy, in no small part due to the outer material extending further into the pocket, and the lining being more sturdy. I suppose that is what you would expect from price difference (£12 or 40%... not insignificant).

My biggest issue with HJS is that it doesn't have any branding or traceability, and so knowing what if any difference there is between that and the myriad of other non-branded harringtons makes it very hard to justify the price difference between that and a no-name.

If anybody has purchased one of these and is willing to take some photos of the inside, sleeve liner, stitching etc, I could post some of the other manufacturers here too for a better comparison.

I am in the market for a black harrington, but will wait for a baracuta, fred perry or similar to go on sale, nothing wrong with the Combat for the price, but since owning 2 baracutas it is hard to look back.

EDIT: I should add, this is still a great deal for this jacket, they don't often get cheaper, and this is a better company to purchase off of than some dodgey ebay or amazon seller (edited)

Received my jacket yesterday but not to happy about it. Loose stitching etc, looks poor quality. I wont normally post but i was a bit shocked.

I never get bad deals on HuKD, but I don't know maybe I was a bit unlucky.

    I am requesting a refund.

    Sorry all

Thanks for your feedback, I had it in my basket but now I'll give it a miss.
I already own a Ben Sherman Harrington jacket which I'm more than happy with
Think I'll stick with Ben Sherman if I order another.

    Cheers

I’ve had a couple of these jackets. They are well made and are double lined. They are a bunched fit around the waist on the bomber jacket style. I’d you subscribe you get 10% off so effectively free delivery.

Are combat saying they were the original makers of the Harrington itself or just the combat version? This one listed here today is a very nice material like a sta press type (remember them and seems well made albeit a no namer. Though the cuffs are awful and will give in quickly if not already done so..real crappy cuff material they obviously couldnt stitch properly. Sizes come up a little small. I used to be a 6:2 hunk o burning love 45yrs ago but these days im a shrivelled up 6ft old guy and its a little on the tight side an XL but only just. Better tight then too loose I guess..I agree

They essentially started making them in the 1960s, and since then have used the same pattern continuously. The jacket the mods would have bought is in theory identical to the ones made now.

When I spoke to Ben Nevis clothing in their shop they said that the baracuta was always expensive and this has always been affordable, as such a significant amount of the mods, skinheads etc bought this instead and it was one of the most popular brands due to its location, quality and price.

The cuff is nicer on the combat than the Harringtonjacketstore ones, keep their elasticity a bit better among other nicer details.

The baracuta g9 has a really nice double zipper, better lining, vented(open) umbrella stitching at the back, among other things, but the retail price is eye watering, and whilst I definitely prefer the baracuta, I think the combat is best value for money.

Seems like decent clothes and a lot of it is claimed to have been made in the UK. If that is indeed the case, then worth supporting them if their products are to your liking.

Every UK product means more UK jobs which means fewer people unemployed

Yeah it is such a shame as it tarnished the name, and the view of British made products.

Generally any company proud of its work will be traceable, community clothing is an excellent and very well priced example of this.
I would love to see a watchdog report on how “British” some of these British made things are.

I'm from Italy, and there even though is in the EU their law on "Made in " is a bit sketchy, it is enough to finish the 30% to get the finished product to claim is made in Italy, and the 70% could be produced even in Nigerian and it will be lost the track anyway.

So I assuming the UK is doing the same thing as many other countries

Oh I wasn't claiming that they are the "original" I don't think they are either. They state they use the original paterns from when they started making them in the 1960s, they may be where the confusion has come from.
