My membership expired last month, would i qualify for this and create a new account, it wouldn't be a renewal as membership has expired?
    tcf's avatar
My wife re-started a lapsed membership via this offer a few months ago, no issues.

I believe you have to get this offer in warehouse

What would be the advantage to this over the online only membership? Obviously you can shop in-store as well, but won't the online store generally have the same deals?
    PaulandPam's avatar
Quite often the online items are more expensive than shopping instore, plus you can use your online account in the fuel stations that are almost always the cheapest around.

I used to work at Costco on the marketing team signing people and businesses up. If someone wanted to join, I didn't care who they worked for as long as they paid for for membership they can join.

I had Costco membership when I lived in USA and it was free. I'm notprepared to pay to be allowed to shop!

    Good for you.
Are you glad to get that off your chest?

Net result is nothing has changed for anyone.

New members only, not gonna work on renewals.

Ridiculous how a company can say how only certain people can join and shop there

    Replying to

Sure, but you cannot reject based on religion, race, nationality, how's that allowed based on profession? I mean you can reject based on age, income, postcode..
  8. ashington's avatar
They need to bring back the Groupon deal.
  9. oliver_staunton's avatar
For those worried about this not working for renewal, let your membership expire, then ask Costco to delete any information they hold about you under UKGDPR. Then you should either be able to sign up again using this deal or sue them 😁
    andiron87's avatar
Not that easy, if you paid any money (which is the case here as you need to buy membership) they have to store your data for 7 years for compliance reasons. Unless you suggesting to wait 7 years
  10. Ruth.Renata's avatar
My membership ended 4years ago. If i join again now will it count as renewal or new member

I was going to ditch Costco after being a member for 27 years as Amazon had most things I needed however they opened a Petrol Station at Watford and I have generally been able to save 7p a litre compared to the cheapest petrol at the Supermarkets at The Dome Roundabout not far from Costco.

Good offer, Costco is definitely good for Soap powder, Drinks, Fuel etc

    The bottles are crap though.

Not relevant if you're a blue light holder but not sure what Costco have against people in IT? We were classed as critical workers during the pandemic! We're not all contractors!!!
    dw94's avatar
Where do you draw the line?

Should Costco offer memberships to courier drivers and supermarket workers as well then?
  15. Buckyball's avatar
Had a U.S. membership first but qualify for UK as uni employee and it is cheaper.

For us well worth the money, meat e.g is superb, electronic comes often with 5 years warrenty and returns are no problem.
    cossy3's avatar
Really? Their non hung red meat and battery chicken is ‘superb’? Think you need to get out more.
  16. pothole's avatar
Have they opened up the membership to everyone now? Last time I checked you had to be meet certain criterias / be employed in specific professions

Only good if you buy in bulk

    Like 6 shower gels etc
    24 croissants etc

and even then the saving is at best marginal.

Had the membership offer twice and i spent close to £8 in the two years i had it.

    Better sticking with Tesco.

Costco often has bargains on sportswear and some designer shirts/jeans compared to buying somewhere else. You can also get Skechers trainers in there very reasonably priced. I find it has permanent cheap prices on cathedral city cheese, Bon maman extra large jars of jam, extra large tiptree marmalade, some yoghurts, 2 box packs of cereal, wraps, breadsticks, massive bag of baking potatoes, 2 pack of 4 pts milk- random stuff really. Lots of others items have eye watering prices admittedly but that sometimes comes down to the quality of the product. Clearance items ending in a 7p are often bargains.
And as mentioned, the cafe is always a pull as I do love their chilli spuds for £2 and the mammoth gelatos.
i live near a warehouse but yes for people where it’s a journey then it might seem like a waste for £33 a year and the stupid price of fuel. (edited)

New members only. They will check if you had membership before

Wanted to ask here...apologies if it is not the right place...

I have a Costco Membership Card where my exgirlfriend is the primary member...of course it looks like once the membership is over I won't be able to use it anymore...

Anyone know if already having a Card I could sort of "upgrade" my status to primary member somehow?
    dheydl's avatar
The account is in her name. If she wanted to, she could withdraw your card and pass it to someone else. To upgrade you would need to put in your own application and qualify. However, looking at some of the comments above, it seems some locations are less picky than others about qualification criteria.

Can someone explain to me why people would pay to shop? Are the prices really that low (for the regular individual) that it is worth paying a set amount upfront, just to be able to buy in bulk? Just trying to understand it.
    dazigster's avatar
I struggled to make it worthwhile as a member as i'm not much of a consumer and happy to shop around for better deals, but if you do enough milage, you might easily break even on petrol alone. sometimes you might break even on a single purchase, such as an appliance.
  22. Keep-it-Tea's avatar
Dont forget Costco's in the UK are few and far between.

Factor in fuel at almost £2 a litre (for me its £12 fuel to my costco and back, my closest being approx 45mins away)

Is it worth my £12 fuel and 90 mins travel time?

    I think not.

Please visit and have a tour for free and only then think of signing up. Like i said earlier in two years of membership i bought just £8 of goods and visited maybe 4 times.

Costco is good if you are local to one, buying bulk and i mean like £200+ of stuff or buying electricals as they have a very good customer service +warranty programme.

Please factor in the tjourney time, spending requirements and expensive Fuel costs before entertaining this offer
    Simonst's avatar
Do they let you in to look around for free? Want to check the in-store prices before committing

Costco has good deals on meat, electronics and booze - it generally pays for itself in a yr
    nadiala's avatar
Which meat? I found it extremely expensive, like a normal everyday meat. Wagyu burgers are a nice deal though there are plenty of good offers, can’t say it pays for itself though. We had executive and after a year the 2% cashback only came up to like £14 because it turned out that fuel doesn’t give you the 2% back it does in USA, my sister in the US pretty much gets the cost of the executive card back at the end of the year.
  25. psd99's avatar
    How much does renewal cost?

Hate that moment u get to the till and they tell u that the yearly membership fee needs to
Be paid… feel like walking out when that happens

Does anyone here from Northern Ireland use Costco? I've heard a few people mention that they do deliver here but that was a while ago. Not sure if it's worth getting a membership. Thanks.
    Devro's avatar
I live in London but am from Belfast and have had some things from Costco delivered to NI, but other things, like a new TV, I have been unable to. Also, I love going to Costco. I like the steaks and the £1.50 Hot Dog and drink afterwards.

It's another one of those annoying times where you see a great deal, something you really want to buy, and it says "Does not include NI" underneath.

On the plus side, you would only need an online membership, which is £15.

Are the prices still higher than shops? I'd only join for petrol (not one nr) and electronics but Richer Sounds has zilch membership fee.
Oh and my job is not worthy (edited)

Can you buy an online account only the one for £15?

Anybody any idea how the spouse membership works? Do I need to provide proof of this or can my partner that lives elsewhere be signed up?
    PaulandPam's avatar
In my experience they don't give a damn who the spouse is once you have a primary membership and I have never been asked for proof.
My wife used to be my spouse card but it was a waste because we always shopped together so I now have another person named as the spouse and between us we split the membership fee 50/50 and both households now have access.
  33. el0nmu5k's avatar
How much do you have to spend to recover the membership fee and cost of petrol to drive to Sunderland
    pearshaped34's avatar
There's not a Costco in Sunderland, so not sure why you'd need to re-coup the cost of driving to there.
  34. cossy3's avatar
Just went for a look around Costco, talk about overrated. Food that looks like it’s been made by a primary school canteen and when you do the sums, most Things aren’t any cheaper than anywhere else.
    Newbold's avatar
I used to think that - until I got an online membership. Haven’t looked back since - some big, genuine savings

You beat me to it…. Yup I watched it too. Definitely an interesting watch )yup they sell watches too)
I’ve got a blue light card but been a member before & hardly ever shopped there…. Might be worth a membership again (if they’ll let me join again via the blue light deal?
  38. Pancakes42's avatar
Only if registering in the warehouse and for new members only. But good deal
  39. TECHSPEC's avatar
Says in the mirror AA and RAC members can join. :/ Anyone tried? Not an option on online membership form. (edited)
