Am I right in thinking that 400w difference between 3kw oven and this is the only reason you're able to make a saving?

No. Lots of reasons for the savings, one being that 2.6kwh is shared over 2 elements and 2 baskets. Only using one basket? 1,3kwh max. Cant be done in an oven. Another reason for the savings is speed of cooking with no preheating. We often do a 1.8KG whole chicken in one of the baskets in our dual, cooked to optimum 74/75c in 65 mins, again with no preheating. That is using just one basket don't forget so half the power. Used to take nearly 2 hours in the oven including the preheating.

And, as I'm sad enough to have in the past watched the smart meter remote display whilst cooking in the dual air fryer (they are pretty close to each other) as the space that is being heated is so small it gets to the set temperature very very quickly and consequently very frequently the element cuts out leaving just the fan going so that 1.3kwh/2.6kwh is just the maximum power not the power used in reality.

Edit: having read that Which article unless I've missed it they don't take into account the different warranties on the air fryers and that's a mistake if you are looking for return on investment. The Ninjas have a 12 month warranty whereas this one and other dual models from the likes of Salter and Daewoo, have 3 year warranties AND a much lower asking price! The ROI on the ones with a 36 month warranty should be calculated over that time period whereas the much more expensive Ninjas ROI can only reasonably be calculated over a 12 month period. Massive difference.

Even this Tower, one of the more expensive of the non-Ninja duals, would only require a 14p per day (less than half a kwh) saving to pay for itself over its warrantied lifetime whereas the comparable Ninja dual at £250 and a 12 month warranty would require a 69p per day (2kwh) saving to pay for itself over its warrantied lifetime. Like I say, a massive difference. The recent 8l Daewoo dual posted on here at £99 would require just a 9p per day/less than 300w leccy saving to pay for itself

Plus over and above the leccy savings the savings in cooking times are a lovely bonus! (edited)

    Tower or Ninja?

See Bellboys detailed response above, then decide for yourself. I think only time will tell how good each of these brands will be. The only other point of interest is that Ninja are the only supplier to go to 240C. The rest max out at mostly 200 (odd one 210). I rarely use the setting above 200, but occasionally do (to quickly crisp up something). I've yet to decide if I would miss it enough to buy a ninja again. I'd love for one of the other big providers to make theirs go to 230/240 and if they did I wouldn't dream of touching a ninja. They are well built (read of some others having quality control issues... Loose screws etc) but even so their price is too high. I did after all pay £130 for my Ninja (almost 2 years ago) but it's now around £200. Don't get me started on lack of available parts and the deliberate policy from Ninja of preventing those parts from reaching the market. Time to make up your mind lol

Can anyone advise if Tower is a good brand for air fryers? My parents saying they want the 12l one.

Don’t be blinded by branding. Many of these seem to be built on awfully similar chassis! Bodywork, badge and firmware may differ but the guts are the same.
Branding (after you have been convinced to buy) can however lead to different support experiences…

12 litres? That would be a “mini-oven” style unit. Great for a cheap tiny rotisserie, but the least satisfactory type of airfryer - disadvantages include unevenness of cooking and higher energy consumption.
Volume isn’t a good measure of airfryer size! The airblast won’t penetrate a deep layer of food, so area is a better gauge of usable capacity (unless you really wanted a rotisserie…)
It sounds like the parents would be better steered towards a drawer-type unit.
There was a decent deal on a usefully sized one earlier today. Link - hotukdeals.com/share-deal-from-app/4090288

And a probe digital thermometer is a much much better as an indicator of cooking ’doneness’ than any number of windows into the drawers. (edited)

Saw that before I posted this but never heard of the seller and not much feedback (1?). Not even sure it will have been allowed to be posted on here. In fact it wouldn't have been allowed. (edited)

All that Wonga to do your Tesco french fries. Good as any other top brand when passed through these heart stoppers.
