I got one, big mistake tesla has no back up, down for months waiting for a windscreen, then further problems would not take it back awful company
    peribro's avatar
I got a Model Y a year ago and it got a cracked windsceen in the second week - about a 1 inch crack on the dtiver's side by the A pillar. Insurers directed me to Autoglass who were hopeless - blaming Ukraine, China, covid etc. After nearly 3 months of waiting the crack spread out across the windscreen so I used the Tesla app to book a service windscreen replacement from Tesla for the following day and told Admiral who paid the total cost.

The only other problem I've had was the passenger heated seat stopped working. They sent out a mobile mechanic who diagnosed faulty electronics and they replaced the entire seat.

I've had BMW's, Mercs, Porches, Jags etc and have never had such good service as from Tesla.

Have one and tbh i would not recommend for anyone not getting company car tax benefits or similar.

Its not a bad car but its not on a par with audi bmw merc imo, you are also pinned to their infotainment solution which does not play nice with phones in the way car play/android auto does.

My biggest gripe though is speedo/limiter, being set off to your left and small its hard to keep track of your speed. To deal with this you can set the limiter to chime when you exceed the limit +/- your choice of a few mph.

Sounds good in theory but mine keeps picking up the 20’s for side streets and thinking its for the main road. In the UK there are rarely 30 signs so it bongs at you a lot 🙃.

Also currently theres no parking sensor function as they dropped the ultrasonics before building a vision only solution.

Lastly their customer service experience has not been great, it feels like chatting to 17yr old frat boys that are like “dude that sucks”.

Delivery was due on the 24th then the 28th then the 31st, then come pick it up in manchester on the 28th then can you come get it from Portsmouth on the 30th (from Wakefield). Throughout it was presented as though i’d caused their shipping issues. Finally it turned up without notice on the 30th

I test drove one and didn't like it because of the lack of central Speedo. They should of added head up display
  3. dcx_badass's avatar
Don't even come with parking sensors that an £18k fiesta comes with. Avoid, poorly made and overpriced.
    flatlander's avatar
I had one for 2 half years of course they have sensors front and rear and a reversing camera, never had a problem in all that time

I thought that we were all slowly learning that electric cars are a bit of a scam - hence the reason for the recent crash in prices. Either way, I absolutely wouldn’t be dropping a penny on a Tesla. Aside from them being painfully expensive, they are suffering from serious software malfunctions that Tesla keep claiming they are working on. Also, build quality is terrible and supply of spare parts is an issue. You have to be smoking whatever it is Elon smokes to drop 40k on this.
    sandman1986's avatar
No issues with mine, and my leccy is 7.5p kwh so costs a couple quid to charge. No tax, no servicing im happy with mine. Not worried about depreciation as i usually change mine once warranty runs out and give it to my wife to run into the ground
  5. xtreme123's avatar
These are dropping like anything right now. Would highly recommend to wait it out. They can sell for a lot less and make a good margin
    john733's avatar
Agreed! I’ve been keeping an eye on the prices of these. They’re dropping big time and private owners are trying to sell up before they’re previous prized Teslas don’t lose even more! For those of us in the market for one of these, could be a bargain to be had (relative to previous prices of course) very soon. Naturally, there’s only one direction the majority of cars go in, these just seem to be on steeper declines. New prices were highly exaggerated and Musk’s antics aren’t helping!!
  6. kiranmk2's avatar
Really split over Tesla. They are a fantastic EV in terms of efficiency (miles per kwh of battery) and charging set up (supercharger network), but they have really fallen in my eyes in terms of features due to their sheer hubris around the fallacy of Full Self Drive and their technology superiority
    - Claiming that vision can do everything and removing sensors in favor of this (radar, parking sensors and even rain sensors). What's worse is that they have removed the sensors before the vision-versions of the software are ready.
    - Not implementing or removing features because they are "not relevant when everyone has FSD" such as a heads-up display (not featured) and the stalks (removed on the latest S/X and potentially removed on the next gen 3/Y) which are replaced with capacitive buttons...
    - Clear focus on US and not GB: not even a hint of when FSD could reach anywhere that isn't the US and hardware matrix LED lights fitted with no evidence they are interested in writing the software to enable them
    - No Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
    - Phatom breaking issues when using simple adaptive cruise control

Oh, and Elon Musk is a bit if a tit, but what CEO isn't? I tihnk he has outlived his usefulness at Tesla now after getting them to this stage. (edited)
    pukenukem's avatar
I think this is a good summation of my feelings too, with most of what irks me surrounding the FSD and the way it is sold. I think it's actually scandalous, especially at the current asking price of £6800. Back in late 2019 when I bought my car I was trying to decide between the Model 3 SR+ with FSD, or the Model 3 LR without it, I couldn't afford the latter with it. I went for the LR model in the end with my logic being that I couldn't retro fit the extra motor and 4 wheel drive, but I could always get the FSD. I'm so glad I made the call I did. I had a friend who picked the former option, and never got anything substantive for his money (I think it was close to 5K back then).

3 years on nothing has changed with FSD but the asking price, and nothing has changed on its outlook in the UK. Also, the fact that they are selling cars without parking sensors because Tesla Vision will take over and some undefined time in the future, just sucks. What makes it so frustrating is that the car itself is really good, fun to drive, practical, full of useful features and ever improving. There is a lot of good there, but Tesla are making themselves harder to like all the time.

I thought about buying one but when I checked the insurance, none came bellow £2400 . My current car insurance is around £300 . Are there special companies which does EV insurance or are they really expensive to insure?
    jerrythefatcat's avatar
I found the same, doubled my insurance and excess.
  8. cras's avatar
Is it 50 miles as that is how far it got
    fentot's avatar
That's a zafira on fire in the picture.. Its down to electrical issue as all zafiras were recalled to fix a problem... And then recalled again to fix the fix
  9. Bobbins's avatar
At 50 miles on the clock it is not a demo. It is a pre-reg to flog at a lower price because they can’t flog it new at a higher price.
    asl3312's avatar
I don't even think it's a pre reg, but instead existing inventory that is in stock. Tesla do not build to order, they make whatever they think they need and send them over from China which are then matched with customers when they order a car. It sounds to me like they have sent too many over and want to shift stock before the quarter end.
  10. dk143's avatar
Apologies if a stupid question, but is the luxury car tax (for new cars over £40k) still a thing?
    DannyOcto's avatar
    gov.uk/veh…les

From the official source and assuming this is classed as zero emissions vehicle: No (for this car), but Yes in general.

'Vehicles with a list price of more than £40,000You have to pay an extra £355 a year if you have a car or motorhome with a ‘list price’ (the published price before any discounts) of more than £40,000. You do not have to pay this if you have a zero emission vehicle.

You only have to pay this rate for 5 years (from the second time the vehicle is taxed).' (edited)

This car in states cost less than 30k pounds. This inflated prices in Europe are just sickening. Average price of kWh 0.16p inUSA same in Europe 0.32 IN UK. Petrol 50% cheaper. Natural gas all over planet went up by 30% from 2020 in uk 400%. Uk taxpayers currently pay to keep offshore wind turbines off as there is overproduction of electricity. Currently wholesale price of gas is lower than in 2020 but hey 10.8p kWh of gas is fair
    kreames's avatar
And in China they're 2/3 of the USA price.
  12. Doors's avatar
Deal seems good, however Tesla drivers are up there with BMW and Audi drivers.
    JoeKing5321's avatar
Thought I was the only one who noticed this. If anything I think they're far worse than the BMW and Audi drivers. Potentially they've moved over to Tesla.

Juke and Qashqai drivers still rank pretty badly.
  13. little_grape's avatar
Love mine, and if you're regularly driving long distances there's no alternative to Tesla, because their dedicated supercharger network is on just about every street corner.

If they can price it below £40k you can save the road charge for expensive vehicle!

Doesn't apply for EVs currently so it could be £100k and VED would be £0
  16. siksik6's avatar
Ugh, must EVERY Tesla/EV thread turn into this constant argument about whether EVs are brilliant or evil? Total yawnfest.

It's a decent deal for a Tesla, the pros and cons of which are well documented, thousands of times. Voted hot.

This bloke appears to own a Porsche Taycan, and he is very angry/frustrated about it. He is adamant people shouldn't buy EVs.

Here is a chap doing towing a large caravan with a high end EV, it's not his EV but he is surprised at the range test of using this EV for this purpose >

Now these are more extreme examples but are they? How do these problems get solved in the future? How will EVs be made to work for everyone as ICE does?

Anyway this may come across as trolling, I assure you it isn't. EVs are definitely useful for many people but currently they appear to be far from useful for a large % of the population and whilst prices are dropping they are out of the budget for many people. So how will these problems be solved? New battery tech, much faster charging? Will towing always halve your range, how does that compare to ICE? I think I know some of the answers, but that's why we discuss things. So people who love EVs and are using them, what do you think about videos like these? Sensationalist or realist? (edited)
    gg1pl's avatar
How is 1% of households that tow a caravan a large percentage? Keep on using your diesel/petrol car if that's better for the small percentage of people that its more suitable

The average cost of a car is £30-35k and that's plenty of EVs. People also have no problem leasing cars 100%+ of salary so why are EVs any different to the average cost of German cars people are obsessed with leasing?

Electic cars not enough charging points at the moment, UK EV charging infrastructure is rubbish
    asl3312's avatar
The EV charging infrastructure definitely needs to rapidly expand here, but I've just done a 700+ mile round trip in my current EV (non Tesla) and I didn't have to wait to get on any rapid charger. Do longer journeys require more planning than with an ICE vehicle.. absolutely, but it can be done.

Current plan is to buy a petrol vehicle in 2029, the year before new sales are banned and then drive round town past all the queues of electric cars at charging points shouting a similar phrase to the one used in The Inbetweeners.
    dparr59's avatar
Well before 2029 car manufacturers will have aready stopped making fossil cars ( eg: ford fiesta ends this June 2023 and thats UK's best selling car )
2nd hand maybe the only choice by then.
Plus the likes of Shell & BP already own some of the electric charging stations so they will still make money either way.
But if you have solar you could run a EV for a lot less than todays fuel prices. (edited)
  28. VN125250's avatar
What do you do when the battery goes? How much are they to replace?
    Paul1802's avatar
This is the real question for me. All batteries degrade and die over time so how long are they "guaranteed" for and what is the replacement price?
There's no way I'm buying an EV and taking on that financial suicide. It'll be leasing all day long.

Teslas are made to exploit the same mindset that simply must have the updated iPhone every year, just on a much larger budget. The reality is that they aren't worth the money. But you could argue this with a Tesla owner until you are blue in the face and they still wont understand.

The only people who should remotely consider getting one are those that get it through a company tax break. You need your head checking if you buy one any other way.
    jrw's avatar
Ok - Please show me an Equivalent spec/power ICE car for less money if you think these are so expensive.

Also show me an equivalent EV car for less money too whilst you are looking.

Then when you have worked out that there aren't any, the running costs are considerably cheaper then you might, just might change your ill thought out mindset.
  31. RobJones-48174.61446's avatar
I love a good argument with at least 50% of the people complaining about something they’ve never seen, never mind owned
    jrw's avatar
But the Daily Mail says they cost more to run than a Petrol car
  32. harry66's avatar
My employer recently introduced an EV program - which offered EVs at a substantial saving.
I and several other team members started looking into this seriously.
However, after much research and number crunching we decided that the long-term ownership costs and the so-called eco-credentials just did not stack up.
The cost of replacement batteries - even allowing for future price drops, long-term sustainability plus the non-eco materials and manufacturing process meant that the whole electrical car thing is a marketing thing - designed to make us all spend money..
A bit like every new version of iPhone, Samsung Galaxy or Pixel ...

    Scrooge_McDuck's avatar
Exactly. The people who have bought into it aren't going to admit it to themselves though.

I think hydrogen fuel will end up being the death of EV. I know that Shell recently pulled their trial stations due to lack of demand but there is still a lot of work going on behind the scenes for large commercial vehicles to be hydrogen powered. AS soon as demand increases for it to be profitable, we'll see hydrogren fuel stations everywhere and this will kick start the work for smaller consumer vehicles.

Tesla drivers will be modern day equivalent of those that bought Betamax videos or Laserdiscs. (edited)
  33. mwa's avatar
A busted flush.... these will continue to depreciate.

Tesla's have got the most bland interiors. I'd expect a lot more for £40,000. Definitely cold
    PsychoSonny's avatar
The exterior is even worse. They look like bread vans
  35. Quicklite's avatar
Personally I would wait for the stock to drop a bit, or so, buy that share sit for 2-3 years then buy any Tesla cars. The investor day event gives a sense that spec & quality improves over time on the same model, but once you buy, you're locked into the depreciation. Interesting company, odd quality control.

In my head at 40k it needs to be AWD and model Y. Alas no T car is realistically available at that price. (edited)
